  1. You hit the nail on the head with that comment. It also depends on who is playing as well. A Twins v. White Sox... Pitcher duel. A St. Paul Saints game... good and hammered slugfest.
  2. He would say that or "heck". Good post Bark.
  3. Interesting idea. I do like when teams try something a little different from conventional baseball wisdom every once in a while. I am skeptical about this one though. Mainly because I'm skeptical about pitch counts in general. It seems to me that this type of rotation would require that you have some relievers that can go two or three innings on a very regular basis. Some pitchers just aren't built for that, so there is a chance that you just end up burning out you bullpen as well. So, the bullpen might have to be constructed a little differently (especially in the Twins' case). I'm interested in seeing how it works though.
  4. Quick update time: Slash line .250/.294/.350 with 5 doubles, 1 triple and 3 HR's. Fielding % = .970 and a range factor/g of 3.98. He has 5 errors on the year. Overall, Florimon is still holding his own at AAA. It would be nice to see him take some more walks and strike out a little less. Currently K/BB ratio is 45/8 in 175 PA. Striking out at 25.7% rate.
  5. That was a good read. Thanks for posting that.
  6. What are you talking about? More money always means more wins. Just ask the Phillies, or the Red Sox...
  7. Well said. I do enjoy the stats, but I'm a science type and that's part of the way my brain works. But, the numbers don't mean anything at all without the emotion that the game of baseball inspires. Thanks for the post.
  8. ESPN is currently running a contest where site users choose their favorite ballparks. It is a head to head bracket style voting. Target Field is currently winning by the largest margin (at least when I voted). It is up against Oakland co. Coliseum. When I voted it was 92% TF to 8% O.co. Here is a link to vote: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8060191/battle-ballparks-vote-mlb-best Edit: Camden Yards was also beating Rogers Center 92% to 8%.
  9. Very true. I would have thought a 8 or 9 hitter could have gotten lucky and got on base somewhere along the line, but I guess not.
  10. Interesting note from the Elias Sports Bureau: [h=3]First Game-ending Rbi For Span[/h]From Elias: Denard Span's RBI single with two outs in the 15th inning drove in the winning run in the Twins 5-4 win over the Brewers on Sunday afternoon. It was the first time that Span has had a game-ending RBI in his career. Entering Sunday's action, Span's 204 career RBI were tied with the Cubs' Ian Stewart for the third most among active players that never had one that ended a game, behind Arizona's Miguel Montero (278) and Detroit's Gerald Laird (208). I just thought that I would share that. I had no idea he had never hit a walk off RBI before yesterday's game.
  11. Well, here's something for you: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/06/twins-seek-pitching.html
  12. I do miss Kubel. He was fun to watch. I understand why he and the Twins parted ways though. Nice to see him doing well, as long as it is not against the Twins.
  13. I am so jealous of that trip. Both of the described trips actually.
  14. Oh, and there was also a quote from an unnamed exec:“Alex calls about everyone." http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/danny-knobler/19359607/brewers-have-a-buyers-mindset-but-this-could-be-the-year-they-sell
  15. I would disagree that Morneau wasn't capable of playing more than 130 games leading up to 2010. He was actually very durable for a good long while. Look at the numbers of games he played: 2005: 141 2006: 157 2007: 157 2008: 163 2009: 135 (this is where you could say he started to "break down" as he missed most of September). Yes, I know, 2010 and 2011 were bad. But it looks like the concussion symptoms are gone. I don't really think 130 games is much of a stretch for him any more. Anyway, I don't think it is the time to trade him yet. They should wait until closer to the deadline to maximize the return and even then, they should make sure it is a pretty good deal. As for Willingham, I think you would have to be crazy to deal for him, unless you got some monstrous deal, which I don't really see happening.
  16. I haven't heard any reason why he would not sign. He might be trying to get a little more money, or maybe not. He was injured when they drafted him, so maybe the Twins are doing some medical due diligence before they come to terms on a contract.
  17. Great article. Probably the best I've read on this site. Keep up the great work Parker.
  18. That was a great article. It was fun to look back at the Beloit team from 2007. Keep up the good work.
  19. You're using some advanced stats to justify why the popularity contest isn't going Mauer's way. I personally think he deserves to be there, and if the Twins were doing better, he probably would be. Like jm3319 pointed out, the casual fan (which happens to be the majority of people that go to games) don't look at the advanced stats that more hardcore fans look at.
  20. Where were they going to have him play? I know they had him play in RF a little, but that spot was also used for Revere, Parmalee, sometimes Doumit to start off. Plouffe probably should have seen more time out there instead of Komatsu, but Plouffe hasn't been great in RF either. The real key was that Valencia was doing poorly enough to get sent down, leaving a spot where Plouffe could play and get comfortable. And I think it is pretty obvious what has been happening when he's playing somewhere where he is comfortable.
  21. Good post. He definitely would be an unconventional ace. You're right, this would be a lot to ask of him, but I can hope he keeps this up.
  22. I would have to say that he wouldn't bring as much. Span has been very consistent over the years and a team would know what they are getting. Revere is a wild card. He could give you this type of production forever, or the production could fall off. Span would cost a little more up front, but if Revere keeps playing like this, his salary could get more expensive than Span's during the arbitration years. I think if a team were really pushing for something, they would want to make sure they're getting something for the prospects they are giving up.
  23. I completely agree that he should be playing every day. No question about that in my mind. I just think he should be playing every day in LF. That's all. In my mind though, he is quite possibly the most fun player to watch. Definitely on the team, possibly in the league. He adds so much excitement to the game.
  24. I would think that you would want to flip Hicks and Revere. Revere would make a much better LF with his arm. Hicks has a good arm already, so RF would not be bad for him. That outfield sure would cover a lot of ground though.
  25. I agree with you on some points. He is hitting well. Really well in fact and he has been really fun to watch. He does need to draw more walks, but I don't think that is completely his fault. Everyone in the league knows that he is not going to hit it out of the park. Knowing that, I think many pitchers are just challenging him by throwing strikes. If he keeps up this kind of batting average, pitcher will probably stop having that mentality and he'll start drawing more walks. I also agree, he shouldn't be in RF. But, I don't think that they should move Span either. Span is great in center. Revere is good too, but if you watch them you can see that Span reads the ball really well. Revere doesn't read the ball as well as Span, but he makes up for because he's so damn fast. I know this has been said before, but Revere would be best in LF. His arm wouldn't be that much of a problem there and a LF/CF combo of Revere/Span would cover a lot of ground. It is Willingham that needs to move, not Span.
