  1. Nobody is arguing that it's sustainable. The guy is swinging a hot bat, there's no denying that, so why not take advantage of it while it's still hot and then toss him aside when reality sets in? That's really all anybody has suggested, I don't think it's unreasonable.
  2. Now that they're back in the states we can at least resume blaming his struggles on the weather.
  3. I don't think LaMarre has a lot of long term believers but he's certainly hitting the ball better than a handful of guys right now so I don't see why getting him some ABs at the expense of those struggling is a bad thing. Robbie isn't hitting well, but he also has about half the ABs that Morrison does to start the season. Morrison's only real value is mashing, and if he's not producing extra base hits while simultaneously beating balls into the shift & striking out he's going to continue to be a black hole in the middle of the lineup. That doesn't mean I think he'll stay at an OPS under .300 for the year, but 3-44 is a little concerning. At this point I don't think it's just a slow start.
  4. This one is completely on the Twins. If they're willing to pay him anywhere near fair market value he'll be back. Personally I hope they do. I think the team is better with him at 1B and it would be gross to see him wear another uniform.
  5. Me neither, I thought when they signed him they were paying for Vargas-esque production with a little more offensive upside, although they also gave up the option to truly platoon at 1B. Agreed, it's too early to say we have a solid idea about how any of these guys end up.
  6. I would say that the burliness of my liquid coat determines my threshold for cold but that's another topic. I realize the cold can play a part, and I'm not completely dismissing it out of hand, but I do think it's being applied very generously to explain away any poor performance. Yes, weather effects individuals differently, and I certainly think (hope) it might have something to do with Morrison's poor start, but I have a hard time attributing 2-27 to only adverse weather.
  7. 1. Everybody else is hitting in the same weather. 2. Yes, if he has two weeks in July where he goes 2-27 and strands a horde of baserunners people are going to gripe. 3. Yes, 9 games is too soon to panic, but he's been historically inept to start the year so some concern is warranted.
  8. Sure, but the goal is to get to those other ABs without giving up runs. Using your best reliever gives you the best odds of that happening. Of course having the best reliever available to close out a game is nice, but you can't close a game if you're losing.
  9. What's silly about using your best reliever in the most critical situation in the game?
  10. It's the Phil Hughes effect. Eddie made a strong first impression and some are convinced that's the "real," Eddie even though a much larger amount of sample suggests otherwise. The guy has loads of talent, but the idea that he's a strong defensive OFer to this point is questionable to put it kindly.
  11. Consistently inconsistent zone tonight...
  12. Apparently this ump wants to get out of the cold... No complaints while getting these calls but Verlander is going to be a beast with the way the zone has expanded
  13. Were they that confident that Bard wouldn't be selected? That's an honest question. The way I view it, there are only 40 roster spots. I think it's a fair assumption that if MN had spots in addition to the 40 allowed they would've kept Bard, Chargois, and Burdi. If the Twins were intent on selecting any player in the Rule V, they knew that a 40 man spot was required, which in turn means other players will be left unprotected. In that regard I do think the loss of Burdi and Bard via the draft has something to do with the selection of Kinley. I realize they cleared space for FA signings, but those came after the Rule V. Why not keep as many players as you can, and then make corresponding 40 man moves when a target FA has actually been signed? The Chargois move was inexplicable all around. If you have some idea of what they were thinking or what that "something more," it suggested is I'm all ears.
  14. IMO this is already an "egg on the face," situation and the best thing to do is to clean it up as quickly as possible. You're spot on Ted; Molitor has no desire to use Kinley, nor should he, as Kinley hasn't shown anything to suggest he can trusted. He's eating up a 25 man spot, the importance of which is magnified given Molitor's history of bullpen usage, the early struggles of some relievers, and the unpredictability of the starting staff. For me, cutting ties with Kinley won't be hard to stomach, it'll be a relief. However Bard and Chargois are performing now has nothing to do with what's best for the Twins. I get that the optics of cutting Kinley loose this early, or while Bard and Chargois are pitching well may make it seem worse in the eyes of some, but in reality are harming themselves by holding onto a guy that can't get into games.
  15. No, I get what you're saying but again, Eddie has earned the reputation that he has. I don't think anybody has trouble criticizing Dozier, Mauer, Kepler, ect. for questionable decisions on the field. The point I made was that Eddie makes those questionable decisions much more frequently, and so of course he's going to receive a disproportionate amount of criticism for doing so. IMO it starts and stops there. I can live with physical errors. Bad routes on fly balls and wild throws are going to happen from time to time. It's the mental mistakes that drive me nuts. Eddie has all the talent in the world but at times he's just so unaware of situations. He has played enough ball to this point where the mental errors are inexcusable.
  16. I don't think they're necessarily held to a different standard. Rosario is just going to draw more attention for those types of plays because of the frequency with which he commits questionable baseball decisions. It's fun to joke about adventurous Eddie when the Twins have the game in hand, but if they don't have the luxury of a comfortable lead, failing to make it to 1B and later getting picked off can end up costing the team.
  17. Agreed 100%, it certainly doesn't help the decision to keep him on the roster though.
  18. Duke's job is to throw wild pitches? Out of the zone doesn't have to mean bouncing off the plate. You can pitch effectively outside of the zone and still be in command. The guy threw 2 WPs and a handful of other pitches that could've been if Castro hadn't blocked them. We aren't talking about passed balls. Duke struggled with control that entire inning, I'm not blaming Castro for that.
  19. Hildenberger looked shaky. Congrats to Rodney for pitching out of the jam but he couldn't record 1 full inning before giving up a homer. Duke was anything but fine, it honestly looked like he was throwing AT home plate rather than Castro's mitt. We can get on Castro for trying to backhand a pitch that was bounced but IMO that isn't exactly fair. We're pissed at him when in reality if Duke just throws the ball anywhere that isn't into the f****** ground it isn't an issue. Yes, it's one game, but the above concerns me a hell of a lot more than anything the offense didn't do...
  20. I agree, Dozier isn't likely to take a discount, nor do I think he should. I don't think it's a situation where he was dead set on hitting FA and refused to entertain offers from the Twins. They've clearly had discussions and at this point Dozier is confident they aren't willing to pay him what he's worth and/or they're unwilling to commit to his future with the team and so he's going to look for work elsewhere. More power to him.
  21. Sure. Should they be fine with letting Dozier go because Adrianza is on the roster? The point I made was that it isn't hard to fit Dozier, Gordon, and Polanco on the 25 man, i.e. the utility IF spots are more expendable than the starting second baseman.
  22. No, I get it. I'm fine with kid gloves that keep him out of the three hole, and I don't disagree that getting him off to a good start would alleviate some nervousness we have about his offense. I just don't know if I'd extend that safety as far as removing him from late game ABs. IMO that's shielding him a bit too much.
  23. That's kind of a paradox though, Buxton can't really get his feet under him in those situations if he's constantly pulled for a PH. I love the results, but in game 1 of 162 I'm ok with Buxton getting that AB.
