  1. Do you think sending Sano to A ball is purely about mechanical adjustments?
  2. https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/mariners/mariners-make-a-myriad-of-roster-moves-alex-colome-arrives-nick-vincent-to-the-dl-and-taylor-motter-is-designated-for-assignment/ "While Motter is younger, cheaper, has more power potential and probably more value, the Mariners like Romine because he was a switch hitter and “low maintenance” as a teammate by comparison. Motter had reputation of grating on teammates and coaches when he was with Tampa, he did little to change that it in his time with the Mariners, possibly making it worse."
  3. Motter doesn't exactly have a sterling reputation as a teammate/clubhouse guy. It's far from a guarantee that he contributes to or exacerbates what's reportedly a poor atmosphere in the locker room, but I do find it interesting that part of the solution is removing a disgruntled player, while simultaneously adding a different player with a history of becoming disgruntled.
  4. It's crazy to say, but Morrison's awfulness is flying under the radar thanks to all the other drama going on. He looked like he was picking it up through mid May but he's been flat out terrible for a month since then. I get that if the Twins sat everybody who wasn't hitting they couldn't field a team but damn, Morrison in the middle of the order is a black hole. Also, I'm not big on the intangibles or "light a fire," thing but after the home plate ump got in Kepler's face and then proceeded to ring him up on 2 consecutive horrible strike calls, the last of which was clearly retaliation for Kepler saying something about the first, it would've been nice to see both Kepler and Molitor go at him. Neither has anything to lose in that scenario and the ump was blatantly crossing a line, I wish they would've checked him rather than lying down.
  5. Part of that is giving some of those minor league relief arms an actual chance, even if that chance results in failure. Busenitz has thrown all of 4 innings this year, and Curtiss has logged 2/3 of an inning. It's hard to earn anything with limited amount of work.
  6. "Matt Belisle likely isn’t going to be a difference maker for the Twins bullpen (which, frankly, has been pretty solid most of the season). The Twins have pitchers at Rochester who are just as talented, if not more talented, and younger. What we keep hearing is that the Twins are bringing in Belisle for his leadership in the clubhouse." That's where it starts and stops for me. I'm not tuned in to the clubhouse atmosphere but if it truly is toxic to the point where change is necessary, maybe that change should be directed at the root of the issue rather than wasting a roster spot on Belisle. At this point "veteran," is just code for not good.
  7. Why not bring in Duke last night instead of Reed? The Twins are down 3 runs going into the bottom of the eighth, Duke has thrown all of 1 inning in the last 4 days, yet Molitor again opts for the overworked Reed. I don't have an issue with bringing in a better albeit more tired arm in a high leverage situation, but it's these types of innings that are needlessly adding to the wear and tear on important pitchers. Of course if starters were all going 7 deep the bullpen would be better off, but that isn't the way the league works right now. The Twins are carrying 13 pitchers, they have enough arms to absorb 5-6 inning starts.
  8. That was my hope when I saw the pick.
  9. People were antsy last year after signing Lewis under slot. I'm not concerned at the moment, we have to see what they do with the next few picks. That said, if losing that bonus money forces the Twins into reaching across the early rounds then color me even more disappointed with the Hughes move.
  10. It doesn't benefit the team unless it's spent. It's already been said but unless they match or exceed payroll next season, this move is purely about the Pohlad's lining their own pocket, and harming the team in doing so. I'm not putting much stock into the monetary value of a draft slot, especially when that assigned value doesn't consider team needs, developmental philosophy, opportunity cost, ect.
  11. "Maybe it's just a coincidence, but of that quartet, Littell is also the only one who was acquired under the Derek Falvey regime." I don't think it is.
  12. I have a feeling no matter what amount they spend next offseason, $7 million of it will be counted as "money from the Hughes trade." It's a good thing they added some extra budget flexibility, I was worried they wouldn't have much $$ to spend....
  13. What relief does this provide other than to the Pohlads' wallet? They sold a high draft pick because they couldn't just eat the cost of a terrible contract. I blame myself for believing the Twins would actually change.
  14. Agreed that he no control over whether he hits w/ RISP. I think the rest of the post was spot on in questioning whether he's able to hit in general though. Carter was terrible last year and LA basically handed him over. I guess he's added depth, although the quality is debatable.
  15. This. Once you look beyond his ERA last season it's apparent he isn't the same guy prior to the surgery.
  16. I agree that a good process doesn't always deliver a good result. I've said the same thing multiple times regarding the Park signing. I don't agree that the process was solid in this case, so I think ripping the results is warranted. They could have waited another season to make sure the 14' Hughes was who they were signing and not 10'-13' Hughes, and still come in early on the extension.
  17. I would guess most don't read it that way. To say the "Buxton doesn't care about working on his hitting as much as his defense," summary is a different interpretation is probably too kind. How far can a simple quote be stretched before speculation becomes fabrication? I guess we'll find out....
  18. Do you think Cave sticks with the team? Personally I don't, so I'm not going to get bent out of shape over whether it's Cave or LaMarre getting ABs, but I'm also not going to get on anybody for wanting to go with the "hot bat," for 1-2 weeks. I don't think anybody is campaigning for LaMarre as a long term solution, but Cave fits into that category as well. The end game is to find some sort of spark on offensive for that 1-2 week period. Is it really that crazy to prefer LaMarre? IMO it isn't, and I think that's the only point anybody in that camp has made.
  19. "Minnesota still has plenty of games remaining against the division's dregs to help fuel a rapid climb." If they're fighting for the last WC spot then sure, that's an advantage, but right now they're at the bottom of that group and honestly it's generous to even include them. IMO the division title is a long shot but if that's their only way into the postseason then the advantage of playing a poor divisional schedule is erased. I get that there's 3/4 of a season left to play, and I still think the WC is their best shot at getting in, but the hole they're digging is putting them in a position where they're forced to win the division. I'm not sure that the games left with KC, Det, and CHI are as much of a safety blanket as we thought they'd be.
  20. I didn't hear anything about the Twins getting angry but this is the same team that got upset after a bunt beat their shift earlier in the season.
  21. I seriously doubt Miller is resigned. I just don't see Cleveland being so far out of the race for the title in arguably the worst division in baseball that they're selling by mid-late July. It would be shocking to say the least.
  22. They're 2 seasons removed from a WS berth, 1 season removed from winning 100+ games, and the team is for the most part still intact. IMO Given their recent success and the outlook of the division, Cleveland would have to be truly awful from now until almost the deadline for them to even consider a sale.
  23. It's nice to not dread Gibson starts. Hopefully this is the pitcher, more or less, we see all year, but I can't say I'm confident that happens. Fair or not, I'm continually waiting for "bad Gibby," to show up.
