  1. I'm not, I've said I expect them to be better, but I also don't think good teams puke all over themselves as often as Chicago has recently. Perhaps this is their upswing.
  2. Do you think Detroit, KC, and Oakland are anything other than terrible and pose any threat to sending the Twins into a tailspin? It's as simple as that. Weak division, lots of games against the 2 worst teams in said division + playing bottom feeders from other divisions = a soft start. I don't think we need more than surface level analysis here.
  3. Not dismissed, rather, taken with a grain of salt. Maybe that's the disconnect. Again, I've always counted the upcoming weeks as part of the start. Can you point out other teams that have matched up this frequently in the first 45ish games with teams barreling towards 100 losses? Honestly Levi, they play a ton of games against the two worst teams in their own division (and all of baseball) and then they get another helping of the dregs of the AL West. The only other teams that could maybe claim something similar to that are STL and Milwaukee. We openly acknowledge the Central is a weak division but now that's suddenly irrelevant?
  4. It's all being lumped together. The whole lot. All those games. Hopefully that part is settled. We come here of our own accord to do just that, draw conclusions. Hey, if you want to stamp SSS on every argument and invalidate it, be my guest, but unless we're drawing arbitrary lines, there's not gonna be much to talk about if that's the road we're traveling down.
  5. Agreed. I think perception is driven largely by record though, and schedule, particularly for the Twins, plays a role. You and I might agree that a 88-90 win Twins team might be out of their league come postseason play, but it's certainly going to draw ire from the "real," crowd.
  6. We're 30 games in, everything (positive or negative) is a SSS Levi. I too expect Chicago to be better than this version, but that doesn't mean they haven't played like s*** the last few weeks, or that it's entirely irrelevant when talking about a favorable schedule to start the year. Over a 162 game schedule am I going to take the time or effort to look up things like that? No, but again, 30 games is all we've got so SSS reigns supreme, and that cuts both ways. Hell, there was an article about Ryan Jeffers being a top 5 catcher in baseball on the front page. I understand all teams bulk up by beating inferior opponents. I get that the AL looks to be more unbalanced than usual. I think the Twins got the softest part of their schedule out of the gate. You seem to disagree.
  7. Skepticism? We're 30 games deep and it's been relatively smooth waters. Entitled isn't a word that jumps to mind when thinking about Twins fans.
  8. Sure, argue it into absurdity, as if the Sox haven't been tripping over themselves, and continue to wear them as a feather in your cap.
  9. They're an even .500 and just the other night booted another 4 balls and coughed up a 6 run lead in the 9th. They've been sloppy, and awful for weeks now. We can sit here and talk about a future turnaround, but the reality is the ChiSox aren't a good team right now. Arguing that they are is the just the other side of the coin you seem to hate.
  10. Fair, I wouldn't be altogether shocked if they found themselves in that position due to injury, ineffectiveness, or just plain old regression.
  11. This is pretty much where I'm at, but I'd be surprised if they were under .500 at the deadline. 18 straight against Oakland, Detroit, and KC to close this month. If the Reds weren't looking to break the all time record for losses that trio would be in the running for the title of "worst in baseball." Unless Cleveland really gives the Twins a rough time, or MN collapses, there are just too many games against terrible teams to give up the ground they've already made.
  12. Did they actually just award Celestino a hit on that?
  13. Donaldson isn't exactly killing it, but Gio is rocking a sub .600 OPS and playing at best league average defense. Both he and Sanchez look like their the worst version of themselves on the Yankees; that's ahhhhh not good.
  14. I think the trade value hinged on the gamble that he wouldn't. I doubt (hope) the Twins didn't think a PTBNL and a cast off relief arm was insurance against a likely elbow injury.
  15. Can you simply it further, ya know, for those in the back?
  16. By all means, enlighten the community, even those of us who aren't entrenched on one side.
  17. It's not perfect, particularly for relievers, but I'll take a metric using controllable variables over one that's almost entirely opportunity based. It goes deeper than just the name on the jersey. MN gambled. They moved a high level arm, from a bullpen that needed help, for a reclamation project of sorts with plenty of service time to reap the rewards from said turnaround. Now, a big chunk of that time seems to be gone, and the Twins are paying Rogers to be elite elsewhere. Some posters didn't like the gamble, it's ok. Sure, if Paddack avoids TJ, comes back, and pitches well then it probably ends up as a W for the Twins. Calling it that to this point though, eh, pass.
  18. While allowing nearly 2 runners per inning. His current "success rate," is unsustainable.
  19. 1. "You didn't make the AS team but you just helped be the Detroit Tigers." What a line.... 2. Aaron Hicks sighting. Bring back DaveW, we need him now more than ever....
  20. No luck involved, they're doing it to themselves. 4 errors last night and they've been playing sloppy, awful baseball like that for weeks now. Couldn't be happier for them or their fans.
  21. Starter vs. reliever value, ok, valid, but I know we're not counting saves right? Pagan is rocking a 1.73 WHIP and has been worth negative fWAR so far this year, if we're putting stock in measuring a pitcher's value that way. The dude is a time bomb out there and eventually he won't be able to wiggle out of allowing 2 baserunners every 9th inning.
  22. If it is TJ, the Twins would still have him for at least one season, fully healthy post surgery, assuming no complications/setbacks. That's not ideal considering they're paying Rogers to play in SD this year, but there's time to make up some ground.
  23. No clue where this "Twins juggernaut," stuff is coming from. If you're admitting that the ChiSox were badly scuffling, then what am I misrepresenting? Honestly. All I said was MN caught them at the right time, and now you've stated yourself that Chicago was struggling coming into the series. No, they don't, and I've said as much. That's fine, Boston might not be by season's end, but they've certainly played like one of those trash teams to start the year. If I chose to include them in that category based on their start, I'm stacking the deck for my argument, but if you opt to move them because you expect things to turn around at some point in the future that's fair game? That breakdown also ignores the aforementioned 18 game stretch against Oakland, Detroit, and KC to close this month, but I'm over arguing about which way the pie is sliced.
  24. Don't look now, but his replacement at 3B has an OPS about 100 points lower and has a whopping 3 XBHs in 82 ABs...
  25. Boston is 10-19 and just dropped a series to Baltimore, no, they're not a good team, at least right now. The ChiSox imploded in Cleveland (swept in 4 games) then continued to boot the ball around in MN, committing 4 errors in 3 games, and literally threw one of those games away. They also dropped their next series in KC. What's being misrepresented? Are you arguing that they were playing good baseball at the time? I certainly expect them to be better than they have been, but that doesn't mean they weren't a clown show when they showed up in Minneapolis. Maybe you have more faith in Detroit, KC, Oakland, or Baltimore turning things around. I don't think it's unfair for me to expect them to more of less maintain the status quo. Arguing SSS is a double edged sword.
