With 5 lefties coming up in the next 6 batters, that wouldn't be fair. Better stick with the Proven CloserTM. (Yes, that was sarcasm - I agree completely, but but Capps took care of business faster than I could type.)
I became a fan in '71 or '72 (age 6 or 7). I survived from then through '86 (some pretty rough times for the Twins) while living halfway between Boston and NY. I'm sure I'll survive this.
I've seen him pitch twice this year - 3.2 IP, 6 K, 0 BB, 2 H, looked great both times. The rest of the time - 5.2 IP, 4 H, 0 K, 7 BB. When they call to get him up, the next call needs to be to me to tune in to the game.
I think the downside is we don't trust Gardy to use him like a third catcher. He'll use Doumit as the DH/RF/3rd catcher and get Butera another 200+ ABs because he likes his defense.
So all I have to do is borrow some black robes and a funny hat, say my name is Agnes, and I'm in? Just let them know that Agnes is about double her listed weight of 125.
I think that "7 years of faith" was based more on the fact that he was a 1st round pick and less on anything he showed in the field. His defense has always been bad and his ability to stay at SS was a question from early on. I know the arm is an issue for Nishi, but is it for Dozier as well? I hadn't heard that.
I still get the feeling that sometime the tracks are going to be cleared and he's going to be great again. There is nothing physically preventing it that I can see. If it's in another uniform it will be pretty painful.
