  1. Well, you see, both these guys came up from Toledo a day ago. Aducci is very fun to say. Hicks has been a travesty in the field. Both of them are tearing us a new one at the plate. Or something like that...
  2. Nope. Reached my 3-hour limit like four innings ago.
  3. I'll pick back up on the old school game thread for the remainder of our bludgeoni...baseball game this afternoon. I'd like to thank you again for tuning in. Hope you enjoyed the broadcast.
  4. Someone please verify the link. mixlr.com/pardon-my-dinger
  5. Welcome one and all to the inaugural Twins Daily Game Thread live broadcast! We're closing in on one hour to first pitch. I'll be keeping things brief in the intro this afternoon. Don't let that discourage you from checking in closer to game time, when you'll find a link at the bottom of this introduction that will bring you into the live broadcast. So, grab yourself a tasty beverage and find a comfortable seat, turn up those speakers and enjoy the game. A brief note: the site which hosts today's audio will offer a built in discussion board. Please ignore that and keep your discussion within the friendly confines of the Game Thread. Tigers Michael Fulmer ® 1. Ian Kinsler ® 2B 2. Tyler Collins (L) CF 3. Nicholas Castellanos ® 3B 4. 6. OK, well, I guess the videos didn't embed. Sorry.
  7. Game Thread: Twins v Tigers, 4/22 @ 1:10pm CT Folks, this weekend, I aim to steer our attention away from the tedium of Wins and Losses, WAR, fWAR, bWAR, xWAR, and other such trivialities. Today and tomorrow, we will instead pay our respects and devote our attention to the curators and folklorists of this great pastime: the broadcasters. You may be aware that I've recently relocated to Los Angeles, California. Around these parts, Vin Scully spent 58 years (and 9 years before that in Brooklyn) etching himself into the edifice of baseball immortality. 67 years of greatness without pause have landed the venerable Scully in every eligible Hall of Fame. He is a lifetime Emmy winner, and most recently, the recipient of a Presidential Medal of Freedom. This is the first season of Dodgers baseball since 1950 without Vin Scully presiding, and his absence is a tender scar on the enthusiasm of a city that loves few things more than their Los Angeles Dodgers. So, one may wonder, if this guy has won every award imaginable - if near every landmark from Echo Park to Chinatown bears his name - why must we intentionally pause to celebrate this man's ubiquitous contribution to baseball culture? Ummm...OK, right, so never mind Vin Scully for a sec... This weekend we celebrate all of our broadcasters, great and small, for leading us through these games that we hold so closely to our hears and collective spirit. Today, we'll keep in mind our favorites (Carneal), our rivals (Hawk), the great historians (Scully, etc), the jesters (Uecker), the drunks (Caray). To one and all, a fond memory, and a tip of the old cap. With that, let's take a look back at a short reel of... Great Moments In Sports Broadcasting History! 1. Miracle on Ice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYscemhnf88Let's just get this one out of the way, right? Single most iconic call in sports history. I don't think there's much debate in that. A couple fun facts about this call: 1) Americans did not hear this live, but rather the following evening on tape delay, and 2) Not a gold medal game. This was a play-in. The more you know... 2. Shot Heard Round the World https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrI7dVj90zs You know what? I'll be straight with you. I'm completely ignorant as to the significance of this moment, and in the interest of full disclosure, I didn't have it in me to suffer through the video above. That said, I'm sure it's important and stuff. If you want to know exactly why, how bout you give ol' Ken Burns a call. In the meantime, here's a Shot Heard Round the World video more suitable to my own lackadaisical brand of whimsy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6ikO6LMxF4 3. "This guy is drunk!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glHciBJGIto Broadcasting protocol obligates directors from capturing interference of this type on video. Well, fans were in luck this night, because Kevin Harlan was on the spot for the call, and he continued to portray the panedmonium with a vividness that the naked eye's account could never rival. This belongs in the Smithsonian. 4. Secretariat Seals the Triple Crown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfCMtaNiMDM Although sports in which humans are tertiary components of the competition don't really twirl my beanie, this is undeniable a classic moment in Horserunning! 5. Moonshot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dmqGg6Ccvw Joe Buck is disgusted and we're all very happy for him. See No. 6. 6. All the times Joe Buck surreptitiously peed his pants during a broadcast. <Error404_videogotpeedonandwasdestroyed> ...Talk about disgusting, am i right, you guys? 7. Joe Carter will never hit a more important home run. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBWk4XHaJ_A ...and he never did. God Bless Joe Carter. Love that guy. Tom Cheek on the call. 8. Down Goes Fraziuh! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9q7mvc6bsY The paradoxically inimitable, yet utterly imitable Howard Cosell with the call. 9. The Sailin' at the 2012 Olympic Games https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bngGgqdtVg For my money, the funniest video i've seen. Very confusing scenes, there. 10. "See you tomorrow night!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRD2IbYFf7o !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And now, a Special Announcement! In this spirit of broadcasting excellence, tomorrow afternoon, I will be calling the game live via Game Thread. It's anybody's guess as to how this is actually going to go, but I'm sure you won't want to miss it. Prior to first pitch, I'll post a link to this thread, which, when clicked will bring you to Twins Daily's first ever Game Thread Live Broadcast! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8. Hey folks. Just popping in to tease the thread for this weekend... RB, as always, did a masterful job in the lead off spot. An American treasure, that guy. But Saturday and Sunday are mine, and we're breaking new ground!
  9. What are you, some kinda ribbon bully?
  10. Incredible. Never ever would have predicted this.
  11. Wish I could watch. Blackout for me. I still want the very best for Meyer, hope he does great.
  12. Wel, the bulls are pretty busy upsetting the no.1 seeded Celtics right now, so...
  13. I'm sorry. I know people have strong opinions regarding neck warmth.
  14. Dear baseball guys, Can we please try and curb this infinity scarf trend? Thanks, PM Dinger
  15. I don't understand. Did the game start yet or not?
  16. Whatever happens in the next game, Pietrangelo needs to get his clock cleaned for that last second hit.
  17. You guys are hilarious.
  18. Gives me a chance to catch up on my serials. I LOVE THIS BRITISH S***!
  19. The lowest they can go is...6th? Or can they drop further than that if the balls are feeling scornful? Never really followed the draft before.
