  1. He has never pitched more than 150 innings in a season and he was at ~80 in June. Twins might be letting him rest for a month so he's ready to finish the season strong once we trade either Pelfrey or Milone. If they both pitch well for the rest of the year, then maybe Molitor starts easing him into more high leverage bullpen situations. I would have liked to see him take over for Fien or Boyer but I don't think it's that easy to just take a starter and put him in the 8th inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd with no one out. Different mindset is needed to be a reliever
  2. I thought everyone wanted Ervin Santana in the bullpen because he wasn't any better than any of our other guys....?
  3. Even with the promotions of Sano and Buxton, we still have a ton of depth and and guys that project to be better than average. With Berrios, Kepler, Gordon, Jay, Stewart, Gonsalves, ABW, Hu, etc., you'd think we'd be able to crack the top 7. I guess he doesn't think very highly of those guys or doesn't see a "star" among them. His top 7: Red Sox Braves Rangers Mets Nationals Pirates Rockes(Insider article) http://espn.go.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post?id=4112 I personally think Red Sox prospects are perpetually overrated and I would have to put the Twins somewhere on that list Thoughts? What would your top 7 be?
  4. I tried to be fair for the Rockies atleast, no chance they're going to trade a top 3 shortstop and a very good player without getting back atleast one or two top prospects... Plus the Rockies desperately need pitching. I was happy to just be able to keep Berrios, Gordon, Jay and Stewart and still have a respectable trade proposal
  5. Twins trade: Trevor Plouffe, Max Kepler, Jorge Polanco, Chi Wei Hu, Alex Meyer, Stephen Gonsalves Rockies trade: Wilin Rosario, Troy Tulowitzki Rosario and Mauer alternate catching and playing 1B. Sano full time 3B. Arcia up to DH/RF with Torii. Tulowitzki dominates at SS. CF Buxton 2B Dozier SS Tulowitzki 3B Sano 1B Mauer RF Hunter DH Arcia C W Rosario LF E Rosario Bench Hicks Bench Escobar Bench Suzuki Bench Nunez A guy can dream right?
  6. A career .292 hitter would be fantastic at shortstop, especially with how his arm and glove should progress. Gordon already has a home run, so he's displaying much more raw power than Ben Rever
  7. I don't think there's a way to make it fair. It seems like Japan, Venezuela, Cuba, and some other countries will not participate in the world draft. I wonder if these countries (other than Japan probably) would agree to be a part of the draft if charities in their country received a matched amount of money that their players signed for. Example: Twins sign Wander Javier for $4million after picking him in the draft. They then must spend $4million building roads in the Dominican. Obviously this isn't very realistic but it would atleast help the countries where these athletes come from
  8. He should be brought up with the caveat that he'll be sent back down once Buxton gets back if he doesn't play defense, strikes out too much, etc. Make it known that he's not being given a role, he has to play for it. He doesn't need any more time in the minors. He needs some defensive work but I'd rather have him get it while contributing at the plate at Target Field. We don't need to see Escobar or Robinson in the outfield anymore, that is not productive for neither now nor the long term
  9. I'll be attending this game - what are the chances I see Pelfrey's last start as a Twin?
  10. Or the Twins are trying to save face in the international baseball community by not allowing someone bad like Fryer to represent the USA
  11. Hicks is solid at what he is - a great 4th outfielder or a respectable starter. I'd be more than happy to have him, Arcia, Buxton, and Rosario as the outfield of the future. I'd be fine with keeping Torii around next year to keep grooming these young guys and be a full time DH. (Ideally that would mean Plouffe gets traded to make room for Sano at 3B) The hate towards Hicks is all because of his stature as a former 1st round pick that we traded away Denard Span to make room for... If we have more realistic expectations for Hicks, he's actually a decent player
  12. I'd be happy to give him a shot, seeing if our pitching coaches can do a better job than the Rangers at getting him more consistent after his surgery. I'll always be happy to acquire someone relatively young if we don't have to give up anything more than money
  13. Thielbar for Thompson Achter for Boyer Fryer for Hermann Arcia for Santana I'm fine with shuffling the deck in the pen as it is clear that these guys aren't getting it done anymore. Herrman needs to go - can't hit a lick and isn't great defensively. Might as well see if Fryer can keep hitting at MLB level. Arcia for Santana just go give us a decent pinch hitting option off the bench and Santana can try to find his mojo again in AAA for the rest of they year. Who knows, maybe he could work on some 2nd Base and corner outfield so he can be our super utility guy and free us up to trade Escobar for a bullpen guy or something
  14. I'd let May go to the pen. Nothing behind this but I don't think a veteran like Pelfrey would take too kindly to a demotion when he has pitched pretty well this year. Once/if Pelfrey regresses more, we can swap him and May in the pen and rotation Santana has too much of a track record not to be in the rotation
  15. If they thought he was the better pitcher than the one he replaced, then no, we wouldn't be punting. We would be trying to put the best team on the field. If he happens to struggle out of the gates, that is outside of the managers control and I would still be fine with us trying to put in our best players. Just like with the Rays picking Delmon Young #1, you can't be mad at it because he was the consensus best player at the time. Then it just becomes bad luck if they struggle
  16. Both Meyer and May had a lot of struggles with command, which lead to their struggles early on. May has seemed to adjust and start to throw more strikes while Meyer has not. Neither one of them dominated the minors the way Berrios has. From what I've heard, Berrios has excellent command so I would think he would be more successful early on than those two
  17. I would hate to keep Berrios in the minors because we have studs like Milone, Pelfrey, Nolasco, etc. in front of him. He will very likely be much better than those guys so I would have no problem with him taking their spots in the rotation. I do think he should remain in Rochester until August-September, unless he plays his way out of the minors
  18. I realize Santana isn't an ace but he has consistently showed that he is better than Pelfrey. I understand Big Mike has had a great season so far but I am very pessimistic that he will continue to have this kind of success. I would prefer to sell high (not expecting a top prospect, maybe a decent reliever) rather than have him regress back towards his 4.55 career ERA while still in a Twins uniform It's not about what they've done so far, it's what you think they'll do in the future Sorry if I offended with the really dumb comment, I just meant it as I think it would better for him to start over Pelfrey
  19. We can't count on Pelfrey continuing to have a 3 ERA... I get that he's been one of our best pitchers so far but his track record would suggest he's due to to regress substantially. Also, it'd be very dumb to put Santana in the bullpen and keep anyone (except maybe Hughes) in the rotation. Yes he was suspended for 80 games but he has proven to be a good pitcher for a number of years. I'd go with a track record of success over half a season of starts any day
  20. Pelfrey needs to get traded. He's been very good for us this year but his value will never be higher. We have so many SP options but he is the only one whose value is higher than his ability. Hughes Gibson Santana Milone May If any of these guys struggle, we still have Nolasco, Duffey, and even Berrios to work into the rotation. Trade Pelfrey for a decent catcher or some international signing bonus money....?
  21. He's going to have to make adjustments to get major league hitters out, why waste more of Meyer's time? He's already 25 years old...
  22. You also don't want to give up on an opportunity to make the playoffs. Remember when Strasburg was shut down to save him for the future? Maybe the Nats could have done something in the playoffs if he pitched. I'm not arguing we should give up on the future and go all in right now, I definitely agree that we should not give up any prospects for a mild short term upgrade. I'm just saying we are a better team than you guys are portraying. There's no reason we can't be competitive now while developing prospects.
  23. Not sure your assessment of our team is very accurate... Left field is currently being held down by a promising hitter AND fielder in Eddie Rosario, Buxton is hitting very poorly but has been a slow starter historically so his talent should win out eventually. Torii is still getting it done at the plate. I wouldn't consider Plouffe's hitting to be "spotty," as he's been very good this year. Sure we have a hole at shortstop and could use more power from DH and 1B, but there's not a complete team in the league. Our starters are a lot better than you are implying too, Hughes has a good track record, especially once he got out of Yankee Stadium which he was not suited for. Gibson and May both have a ton of promise and have started to put it together. Ervin Santana has a long track record of success. Pelfrey may regress some but he has plenty of "stuff." It's not like we're throwing Scott Diamonds out there! Obviously we are overperforming some but we do have a pretty good team.
  24. We don't need to go outside of the organization for quality arms, especially when these two come back. Milone and May likely go to the bullpen. Milone would remove one of Thompson/Duensing, and May can provide another guy that can actually strike someone out. Alex Meyer is pounding on the door as well! No reason to give up Chargois or any prospect when we are about to have a relative logjam of pitchers at the major league level
  25. I love how much depth plays a role in National League games. You need to have a solid bench to have good pinch hitting options. You then need to have a deep bullpen to piece together innings at the end of games. It becomes much more of a "team" game I understand that watching a pitcher strike out on 3 pitches is not as fun as watching David Ortiz, but I enjoy the thinking game that NL managers go through late in the game
