  1. I think the era of mega-cable-sports deals is over now. Unbundling and streaming is the direction that television media is going. The Twins blew their chance at a big payday by having one of the worst products on the field during that period.
  2. 1984 was before a lot of our times on this board. Thus, our lack of patience with management. Some of us weren't old enough to remember the last Twins World Series.
  3. He's 25. He relies primarily on triple digit heat for outs. Based on his age he's at his peak velocity, and will start dropping as he gets closer to 30. If the Twins want to maximize his value, they need him up ASAP. I don't know what else he has left to prove.
  4. Meanwhile in AAA... JT Chargois has an ERA of 0, 70% K%, and a FIP of -1.78. It's only 4.1 innings, but still. By my math, between AA and AAA this year, he has 16 innings, a 40% K%, and a FIP of 1.79, and a WHIP of 1.00.
  5. Twins on pace to finish- 41-121
  6. Not disagreeing, but the point of this thread is whether or not Molitor should be kept. He's clearly part of the problem and not the answer, but maybe #5 on a list or 20 things to fix. We have to start somewhere, don't we?
  7. Totally true, but Molitor certainly isn't helping- he's not the guy I want leading the players going forward. And while it's impossible to quantitatively measure a manager's/coaching staff's affect on the team, I like to use the difference between pythag W-L and/or Fangraphs' BaseRuns vs their actual performance as proxy for judging a coaching staff's affect on a team's performance. Right now the Twins have underperformed their pythag by 2 wins and their baseruns by 4 wins.
  8. Talk about hindsight! If you're using nearly decade old prospect rankings to justify an unjustifiable contract extension, those are some pretty acrobatic mental gymnastics.
  9. Hell, unless you're the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox most teams can't afford to do business like that!
  10. No, Nick is just wrong about this. It is a bad baseball decision to extend a player (especially a pitcher!!) after a career year when there are two more years under contract. At least wait one more year to see if he can repeat his performance.
  11. Also strikes out alot and is a switch hitter. Sort of like Aaron Hicks with less power and no defense.
  12. Santana is not good in CF, but Grossman will be a butcher. In 3x as many innings in CF he is only put up a -3 DRS and -13.2 UZR/50. Which is only slightly below average, and not Delmon Young bad.
  13. This is sort of where I am with this too. While I agree we need to go with the youth movement, there is no reason they should be up here if they aren't ready to be. Also, put May in the freaking rotation... My God.
  14. I immediately thought of Clete Thomas when I looked at his stats. 25% K rate and hit .220/.300/.330- average defender in the corners, awful in CF.
  15. Except Grossman CANNNOT play CF. He has total of 250 innings in CF, most were from 2013 and none last year. In those 250 innings he amassed a whopping -45.5 UZR/150 and -7 DRS.
  16. No.
  17. Why? A strikeout prone corner outfielder with little power. Sounds like the FO is doing more straw grasping here. I still would have preferred they kept Ryan Sweeney.
  18. Dean?! Pat Freaking Dean?! He's a left handed Nick Blackburn. He throws softer than Milone. At least Milone has track record of being a major league pitcher. I seriously cannot believe Dean is still on the 40-man, let alone on the active roster AND starting. This is a total knee-jerk, reactionary move from a desperate front office. Why not stretch out May and put him in the rotation?
  19. Casey Fien would get pretty amped up and do fist pumps.
  20. LOL. Soccer hooligans. Talk about nut-jobs. How often do riots and fights get started in Europe and in Latin America over soccer games? People get killed over there sometimes over it.
  21. Well that's good. But hockey is still the only stick and ball sport that puts up with all out brawling on the field of play. And I think part of that has to do with use of these on ice penis-measuring-contests being intentionally leveraged for entertainment value. I couldn't care less about the sport, but if I was a hardcore hockey fan I'd think the fights would detract from the game itself and negatively affect the integrity of the game. Both of my parents' families are not from Minnesota originally, so hockey wasn't a sport we followed. Back in the early years of the Wild my dad got free tickets for the family through work. It was the only game we ever went to as a family. I was probably 10-11 years old. During the game a fight broke out and this older lady, probably 68, stood up on her seat yelling at the top of her lungs, "Kill him! F***ing break his head!" I had never seen anything like that in my life. I was slightly disturbed at the time that an adult would behave like that. So, yeah I hope hockey has changed. But I'm not holding my breath. It's unfortunate really, because I don't hate hockey, I want to enjoy it, I had season tickets one year to Badger Men's hockey when back I was going to school at Wisconsin. And I had a fun time going to those games. It's sort of different from the NHL game, much like the difference between college football and the NFL is. I have the same sort of disdain for the NFL and their fans too. The obnoxious bud-light drinking rubes that get their sports news from Sports Center and bleacher report. You all know the type.
  22. Agree 100%. This is not awesome. But in terms of importance, I don't think it's THAT important to get bent out of shape on, all things considered.
  23. Bautista did also make a major overhaul to his swing when he came to Toronto. He also only had a full season of at-bats once before 2010.
  24. Not disagreeing with you. But my point was that a large portion of hockey fans watch/attend games just to see the fights. Hockey, football, boxing, UFC (what a joke of a sport) are all incredibly violent and popular sports. The fans in the stands cheer for the mindless, injurious, and unnecessary violence. Not saying the brawl wasn't disgusting, which it was, nor were the fans reactions positive by any means, but feigning outrage over a fairly rare occurrence in baseball with plenty of better examples to be outraged over is a bit hypocritical, IMO.
  25. Have you ever been to a hockey game?
