  1. Hoping somebody else drafts Stott quickly here, the one guy who just doesn't excite me. Would like to see a pitcher, couple interesting guys out there.
  2. I still think he needs that change-up or other 3rd option to be at least average and throw it more than 10% of the time, otherwise hitters won't pay any attention to it and just sit on either the fastball or the curve.
  3. Am I the only person concerned that Berrios only has 2 pitches? Fastball and breaking ball 91% of the time. If one pitch is a little off on a given night a hitter can sit on the other. He's got outstanding stuff, but in my opinion he won't dominate over the long-term until he has a reliable 3rd pitch.
  4. Sadly he'd probably get a solid amount of at-bats in September against the same AAA-level pitching. Of the 28 games on the schedule only 9 are against teams that are still in the race and aren't going to lose 90+ games this year. Combine that with expanded rosters, the level of pitching they're facing on average isn't going to be great. It's been an ugly year, I'd just let him start the offseason early.
  5. You can put me in the group, misguided as it may be, that thinks Kepler has more to offer than a league average player. Not that that's a bad thing as some prospects don't turn into anything. But, he was the Southern League Player of the Year in 2015 at age 22 and a top 100 prospect. With his swing and approach I think there's more there. Frustrating to watch are the seemingly long stretches where offensively he drops into a black hole. He's still only 25 and has some significant time in at the big league level, so I could see it clicking at a certain point. I don't think it's crazy to see a reachable ceiling of .260-.280 20-25HR seasons with plus defense.
  6. Obviously it should be incomplete at this point, but if I had to give a grade I'd go with a straight C. Their first draft is looking pretty good right now, but still very early. This year's draft too early to tell. I like they've been a little more aggressive in free agency, although it didn't pan out. They've put some resources into the organization which will hopefully produce some results down the road. On the negative side, their skills at identifying talent seem to be overstated as they've let some players go (JT Chargois, Derek Rodriguez) that wouldn't look too bad right now on the roster. I really didn't like selling the draft pick to San Diego. Nearly 2 minor league seasons in and player development still seems to be lacking, especially the pitchers don't seem at all prepared to pitch at the MLB level. Also I'd rather give some younger relief pitchers a shot that are sitting in AAA than some of the guys they've picked up off the scrap heap.
  7. Is it just me or is does he look a lot like Kevin Hart in that top photo?
  8. Without overpowering stuff and pretty bad BB numbers I have a feeling Gonsalves gets slaughtered in the majors. Sometimes the team has an idea what they're doing, much like we all thought Berrios was more than ready a few years ago only to get pounded when reaching MLB. That said, maybe bring him up in September and pitch him in some low-leverage situations to give him an idea of what he's up against and what he needs to work on.
  9. Shut him down, let him get fully healthy. Gives him a mental break as well. The extra year of team control really cements it.
  10. Tough end to a difficult season for Morrison. On the bright side hopefully this will allow the team to evaluate a younger player for the rest of the season. There really wasn't much point of playing an older pending free agent with no history with the team at this stage of the season. The bullpen looks like it will continue to be a train-wreck for the foreseeable future. Almost everybody shows large stretches where they are just terrible. They need to get all the young guys up from the minors and see what they've got.
  11. They were only going to move him "for a very nice offer" this month I read not too long ago. I'm thrilled he's moved on, but kind of seems like a sad return. Sounds like a kid with talent, but had to step away from baseball in 2017 and now Tommy John in 2018. More to add to thier rule 5 log jam in a couple years. You don't win the lotto if you don't play I guess, but those seem like some long odds to get for a guy you allegedly wanted to keep around next season.
  12. Kepler has been very dissapointing. He made huge strides against left-handed pitchers, but seemingly forgot how to hit right-handers. I wonder if he's just a young guy who just doesn't get it, and keeps trying to do things his own way or isn't really focused. Seems to have too much ability to be as badly as he's been. If Sano actually commits himself, I think he'll be fine. Buxton, although it will cost him a little speed, needs to actually put on a little padding and play with some more smarts around outfield walls. I wasn't too familiar with Addison Reed coming into the season but haven't been impressed even from the beginning. He doesn't seem to have much on his fastball or a really plus offspeed pitch and just flings it over the middle of the plate too much. Overall not too optimistic at this point about 2019 or 2020. They've got a lot of holes and really need some things to break their way.
  13. If I'm a Cleveland fan, I would have been pretty happy they surrendered. Yeah, pretty doubtful they would have caught them. To those people saying this team had no chance in a series in the post-season look to the 1987 team. That team had no business beating the Tigers or Cardinals. That said, can't disagree too much with selling. They didn't really get anybody back in any of the deals that's too exciting, definitely not going to move the needle in an offseason trade. Maybe they'll get lucky and one guy will become a reliable bullpen arm or something. Back to the bargain bin free agency in the offseason.
  14. Got to be concerned about Nick Gordon potentially being handed a starting job next year at Target Field. Maybe after a bad year they can convince Dozier to sign a 1-year deal to reestablish his value for another run at free agency in 2019. Sadly the backup plan would probably be Taylor Motter or someone like him getting even more playing time next year.
  15. I think it would be kinda crazy to trade Gibson. May as well just trade Berrios too then. By the time you'd have enough decent starters to be competitive he's going to be close to free agency. With Berrios and Gibson they have a very good 1-2 punch in the rotation. I'd do my best to extend him. He's athletic and should age fairly well. The sad thing is if they trade him, everyone on here will be talking this offseason and next about spending possibly $60-100M on a Lance Lynn/Yu Darvish type starter in free agency. Or they could just try to keep Kyle Gibson who is out pitching any of those guys. I don't believe his performance is a fluke, he's got good stuff, he just needed to figure out how to use it. Love seeing a guy rise to the occasion as well with his best games in Yankee Stadium and Fenway.
  16. Both better prospects than any of the 3 they got for Escobar in my opinion. I know rankings don't agree w/that, but whatever. Only concern is they've now created another hole for next year. But I suppose they can call up some data and sign the next Addison Reed and Fernando Rodney for next season. My guess is Houston will get Pressly figured out and pitching better than he ever did here. The stuff is there, just needs to be unlocked.
  17. Not overly impressed, they got a lot more for Nunez. I would have taken quality over quantity. Duran is the only guy I have any interest in that has any upside in my opinion. Concern with him is he was signed in 2014 and is just getting his feet wet in A ball. He looks like the type of guy we've seen a lot in the system that is eligible for rule 5 before ever reaching AA. He'll more than likely make or break this trade. Maciel looks to be a poor-man's Ben Revere. A little dated, but Fangraphs had him as "little sparkplug" that "he often tries to slap and bunt his way on in lieu of taking actual swings". He's 5-10 170, not a lot of projectability. De La Trinidad is a low college draft pick doing well in the Midwest league. The Twins are going after little fast guys, their algorithms must be predicting the return of the deadball era.
  18. It's nice they are selling their draft picks for cash now. You can try to argue this will free up cash for next season, but they won't spend that money, everybody knows it. They were already sitting pretty next season for payroll. Disgust is my only reaction to this trade.
  19. Nice update! Nice to see those guys at the top doing well so far. Was hoping there would be a bat in the system that had a break-out this year. Would be nice to have a middle-of-the-order type guy emerge. Might be waiting awhile. Good to see Thorpe holding his own, crazy he's the youngest guy on the team after missing 2 years. Nice the org is pretty much advancing him and letting him sink or swim rather than slow-playing him after all the time off.
  20. He's looking less and less like a sure thing as time goes on and more and more like a Pedro Alvarez type hitter. When he first came up he had better discipline and would take a lot of close pitches. Now he just does his own thing, comes into camp way out of shape. The Twins don't have impact bats in their minor league system, they need him to succeed.
  21. Lefties have to be really looking forward to facing the Twins this year, be careful with Dozier and Sano and you've got it made. Paxton should be pretty comfortable today unless they bring that eagle back out. He's going to be thinking he's on a rehab assignment towards the bottom of the lineup.
  22. Very positive off-season, although it was looking pretty ugly a few weeks back. They definitely have a deeper and more veteran pitching staff which will make a difference. With Santana's injury and the Sano fiasco I think this would have quite possibly ended up being a below .500 team this year. Adding Odirizzi, Lynn, Reed, Duke, Rodney, and Morrison probably make this team a wild-card favorite than can complete for the division if Cleveland slips up. I'd predict them about 87-75 now.
  23. I think Hildenberger will have to pitch himself out of a job this spring. He was pretty solid last year and had dominated the minors. Biggest impacts likely on Mejia, Vargas, Grossman, and Granite. I have a feeling Grossman will be the 4th OF and Granite goes to the minors. Grossman can pinch-hit off the bench and is a switch-hitter. He also takes professional at-bats. You can send Granite to AAA and if/when an OF goes on the DL, then you call up Granite to fill in as an every-day OF.
  24. Ya never know, some of these guys are deciding to go with the 1-year offers. Moustakas just re-signed with KC for only $6.5MM guaranteed. Maybe its teams flopping, maybe its collusion, or maybe its just teams wising up about throwing stupid money over a long period to a guy that's been worth less than 3 war over the last 2 seasons combined.
  25. I'd be ok with Chris Tillman on an incentive heavy deal for the back-end of the rotation. Especially with Santana missing the early part of the year. He was at least solid as recently as 2016 and had injuries last year. If he pitches well he can maybe push someone else for their spot when Santana is back or May is possibly ready. If not, then you can send him packing when they're ready. Wouldn't be my only move, would sign or trade for one reliable starter in addition to taking a chance on Tillman.
