    Obviously it's very early but I say yes as well. I'll quibble and say he's not playing out of his mind. He's simply playing like he can.

    Exit velocity and launch angle are the two most important factors in how far a ball will travel, but the spin of the ball also plays a role. A ball with backspin will go farther than a ball with no spin or a ball with topspin. For this reason the ideal home run swing is slightly more level than the incoming angle of the pitch, thereby imparting backspin on the ball. Also, I have read that bat speed is the biggest factor in exit velocity but pitch velocity also comes into play. The faster the pitch, the faster the rebound off the bat. I've said this before, but I think there will come a time when Miguel Sano will connect with a 98-MPH pitch and hit a fair ball over the third deck at Target field.

    I've never understood why baseball treats rainouts differently than games suspended for other reasons. It is my understanding that a game that has 4 complete innings is restarted from the first inning if rain prevents further play but a game that has 4 complete innings is resumed from the point of stoppage if a power outage or other occurrence prevents further play. Also, if 5 innings are complete and rain prevents further play the game is official. If 5 innings are complete and stoppage occurs for other reasons the game is suspended. Correct me if I'm wrong and feel free to discuss further.

    Here's something else you left out. Starting pitchers: Hughes (Minnesota), R and Hammel (Kansas City), R. Santana's start getting pushed back deprives him of the chance to go 5-0 for April, but it also prevents the possibility of a clunker depriving him of the chance for being named POTM. I'd say he has the inside track for that honor. Edit: Oops, my apologies, you had the SP's in the first post.

    There is only one reason the strike zone is different for each player: it's so the umpire has easily visible reference points to determine whether a pitch is a strike or not. Home plate defines inside and outside and the player defines high and low. Is it fair that Jose Altuve has a smaller zone than Kennys Vargas? There are good arguments to be made both ways, but IMHO it is unfair, both to the taller player and to the pitcher. I think the zone should be the same for all players. The most important thing is to maximize the integrity of the game. We found out earlier in this thread that the best umpire in the world calls pitches correctly only 90% of the time. My guess, and it's only a guess, is that electronic strike calling systems are at least that accurate and there's every reason to think that this will improve. And having a uniform zone would improve accuracy even further. If electronic is better then that's what should be done.
