  1. The Texas Rangers were named after the New York Rangers but they weren't named for them. They were named for the Texas Rangers. (I'm confident that Riverbrian knows this but I couldn't help myself saying so.)
  2. This is exactly what I picture. Arcia and Buxton come up on Sept. 1. Hunter (and Robinson) see a drastic reduction in playing time while the youngsters participate in fall training. And Hunter (and Robinson) should not be offered a contract to play next season.
  3. If 4 outfielders split starts equally each one would start in 75% of the games. So starting in 40% of the games is probably about typical for a reserve outfielder.
  4. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. The Twins just don't look like the Twins in red, and that includes spring training. I'm more in the traditionalist camp on unis. Home cream, road gray. Only.
  5. I sit corrected. Because Pelfrey came out before completing 5 innings, he could not have qualified for a win even if the Twins held the lead for the entire game. But when it comes to qualifying as the losing pitcher it doesn't matter when Pelfrey came out. The loss goes to the pitcher who gives up the run that gives the other team a lead which is held until the end of the game. Achter was on the hook for the loss.
  6. So is anyone else still even watching this game?
  7. So the good thing is that Dozier tied the game. The bad news is that Pelfrey is off the hook for the loss.
  8. Late to the party tonight. Just in time to see the lead wiped out. Crimeny.... I'm not sure if I want the Twins to win because if they do they'll probably want to keep wearing those gawdawful red jerseys out of superstition.
  9. What I'm reading on this thread is pretty much the same stuff I've been reading here for the last two months. Some people are very impatient and think that few of our prospects will succeed so they feel we have to do everything possible to improve the current team. Some people are sure that a high percentage of our prospects will have major league success in the next few years and that this year's team is far from realistic contention so they feel that any trade is a disaster. So who's right? Well, I am, of course!
  10. Concur. And that point has not arrived. Not even close.
  11. Because it does. Other GM's are not stupid. They will not trade unless they feel they are improving their organizations. Those prospects would have been the price for good current major leaguers.
  12. Dude is only 21 years old. You probably won't have to wait too much longer, but even if it's a couple years I have a feeling the young man will be in the majors for a long time.
  13. This is what I picture as well. Buxton plays center when he's in the lineup. Hicks plays right when he and Buxton are both in the lineup; he plays center when Buxton is not. Rosario plays right when Buxton or Hicks is not in the lineup; he plays left when the other two are both in the lineup. Arcia plays left when one of the other three is not in the lineup and DH otherwise. Sano covers DH on the days when Arcia is in left; he plays third base otherwise. (That's a loaded sentence, isn't it?)
  14. I'd rate Hicks way higher defensively as a right fielder than anybody else who would play that position. I think he's the everyday right fielder next year. Rosario and Arcia should cover left field. They would also play right on Hicks' and Buxton's days off and also DH.
  15. Still rarer because there are 18 batters in a game at any given time but only 2 pitchers.
  16. I agree about being interested to see the correlation, but I wouldn't think that 4 hits has a high correlation to winning.
  17. Dicknjack were talking about Rosario being a single away from the cycle. The cycle is probably the most overrated accomplishment in baseball. People sometimes cite that it's rarer than a no-hitter but a no-hitter is a much more significant accomplishment because teams almost never lose no-hitters. The cycle is an unusual statistical quirk but that's all it is.
  18. At the beginning of this season I'd have been happy with .260 on July 30.
  19. Ozzie Guillen supposedly said, "If AJ is not on your team you hate him. If he's on your team you hate him less."
  20. With Arcia as the fourth outfielder when he's not DH'ing. (I hope.)
