  1. If I attend a game vs the Yankees I'll applaud Hicks at his first plate appearance and then hope he puts up an 0-fer.
  2. Check out what happened when 25 Adam Dunns played 25 Dee Gordons: http://www.fangraphs.com/not/dangerous-experiment-a-roster-of-25-adam-dunns/
  3. Back to back posts with diametrically opposed opinions. Keeps the conversation lively!
  4. True for almost all trades, but particularly in a case like this where the principals are quite young.
  5. I haven't had a chance to read all the comments. Yet. But I'll say this: There are some players I want to do well because they are on a favorite team. Even AJ, back in the day. There are some players I want to do well because I just like them. Like Mike Trout, for example. I wanted Aaron Hicks to do well for both reasons, but I'm afraid I have to let that go somehow because he now plays for the team-that-must-not-be-named. I wish he'd wound up somewhere like San Diego or St. Louis, anywhere but there.
  6. I'd think if they retired 28 for Blyleven they'd retire 48 for Hunter.
  7. Almost all good players are underpaid until they reach the point where they either become free agents or sign their first long term contracts, then are overpaid from that point until they retire. It would take too much work for me to research this but it would be interesting to see an analysis of the best players of the last 30 years or so, comparing career earnings and career performance. Similarly, it would be interesting to look at all MLB franchises over the last 30 years or so and look at cumulative regular season and postseason success in relation to cumulative payroll. This would give us more of a fact-based evaluation of Mauer's situation. It would also give us more of a fact-based evaluation of how the Twins compare to other franchises.
  8. I think it's very possible that the Twins will trade Hicks, but I don't think it will be for at least a year, maybe two. By the end of the 2016 season I want/hope to have Rosario, Buxton, Hicks and Arcia as the four outfielders on the MLB roster. I would not trade any of those four unless/until Kepler is ready. Next year at this time we should have a much better read on what we have in all five of those players (and maybe ABW will be in the mix as well). That will be the time to decide whom to trade.
  9. I get tired of people who complain that Mauer should produce superstar numbers because of his salary. As was written above, he's a very serviceable major leaguer, still playing well enough to contibute to a good team. His salary has nothing to do with it. By the same token, his salary has nothing to do with how a manager should handle him. If it's best for the team for him to bat 6th then that's where he should bat. If it's best for the team for him to be the backup 1B and PH then that's what he should do. But as fans we should just ignore his salary. That's so six years ago.
  10. Substitute the name Hicks for the name Heyward. That's my guess for the future.
  11. And with last year's lost season he's more like 20 in baseball years. And, as Torii would say, he doesn't have his man-muscles yet.
  12. Keep in mind that we are not mathematically eliminated. 1%>0. Sorry, but that's about as optimistic as I can get.
  13. The Angels just won, the Astros are up by 6 and we're down 2 in the bottom of the ninth. I needn't say more.
  14. This is not how I wanted things to happen.
  15. Grrr. Gotta make a comeback. C'mon, Perk, tighten up and let's get it back in the bottom of the inning.
  16. Dangit, Astros bat around in the top of the first and score 3.
  17. We need Young to make a mistake to Sano.
  18. Came to naught. CBU: both important games are 1-1 after 5 innings.
  19. Gotta work tomorrow. Means I'll miss the first few innings. Hope I can come late to a nice lead by the home team.
  20. We did it last night and we can do it again tonight!
  21. One of my all-time favourite albums: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/So_Long,_Bannatyne
  22. In honour (!) of the last weekend of summer (summer = baseball regular season) I decided to mix a Tanq and tonic. I can live without beer for one night.
