  1. I would not be surprised if the radar gun at Kaufmann reads a bit high.
  2. Same reason he didn't pinch run Rosario for him the other night. Let me know exactly what that reason is if you ever find out.
  3. It depends on whether the fielders are being nonchalant or chalant.
  4. Good call by the ump because he got himself in perfect position.
  5. What if Mauer had barreled into Conger? Would that have been a clearer illustration that Conger was blocking the lane? Does the rule allow the runner to do that if the catcher is there?
  6. Anybody watching the Houston feed? What did they have to say about the Mauer play?
  7. I don't know the details of the sliding lane rule but it sure looked like he was blocking the sliding lane. This goes back to the discussion on the Elephant in the room thread. What is the definition of clear evidence to overturn? Had Mauer been called safe do you think the call would have been overturned?
  8. The Sox radio guys are great. How did they come to have such a buffoon doing TV for all these years?
  9. I would like this if it were only the wave-doers who were annoyed by your anti-wave. However, I have to think this would wind up annoying both the wave-doers and the wave-don'ters. Edited to add: And if all the wave-don'ters did the anti-wave there would be far more people standing for far longer than if only the wave-doers stood while wave-doing.
  10. One way to avoid the wave is to attend games at Tropicana Field.
  11. I never participate in the wave and I wish people wouldn't do it because it's a distraction. But I can't say that I hate it and I don't think it's worth it to get all wound up about it. It seems like it almost always ends when the half-inning ends or there is a significant play on the field so just try to ignore it and it will be gone shortly.
  12. The last time I was there I got one of their brats and told the woman to put as much sauerkraut on as they were allowed to do. I could hardly see the brat underneath it all. Wonderful!
  13. Has anyone ever hit a ball thru that space before?
  14. Late to the game. Just got back from the local high school marching band performance. It's nice of the athletic department to provide football for entertainment during intermission. They also have football after the second half of the program for those who want to stay, but we left.
  15. Because of off-days, only 4 starters are needed for the postseason.
  16. Seth, just out of curiosity, in your humble opinion whom should the team remove from the 40-man roster to make room for Berrios?
  17. Does he have the stuff to pitch in the majors? Sure looks like it. Does he have the mental makeup to pitch in the majors? Sure sounds like it. Is bringing him to the majors now the best thing for his career? Ah, now THAT is the important question. It sure is tempting to put him on the major league roster but here are some reasons not to do it now. 1. He's pitched more innings this year than in any previous season, and more and more baseball people feel that too much throwing early in one's career is linked to the marked increase in TJ surgeries needed in this day and age. 2. He's always started, and the Twins have already had to put one starter in their bullpen. Asking Berrios to become a different pitcher may not be wise given his age and number of innings already pitched this year. Even though it would mean fewer innings something like that could throw a young pitcher out of whack. 3. He's not on the 40-man. This is not the best juncture to remove someone from the 40-man to make room for him. There are several players I'd DFA when the season is over but not now. I'm not saying he should be called up and I'm not saying he should not. But I think caution with this important player is prudent at this stage of his career.
  18. Minority opinion here. I still give Nolasco the benefit of the doubt. His overall performance has certainly been poor but there are two things to mention. One, the injuries. I'm inclined to think that his health was a significant contributing factor in the results he got over the last two years. Two, he has had a (small) handful of games where he looked very sharp. I know it's hard for some (or many) people to accept but I think he does deserve an opportunity in spring training and the early season to show us whether there's a chance. I'm not expecting Cy Young pitching but as many have said it doesn't hurt to have extra starters. We took a similar track with Pelfrey and wound up getting far more from him than many people thought we would. Trading Nolasco right now would be very unlikely to fetch anybody worthwhile. If one truly feels that trading a starter is the thing to do I think Hughes would probably generate the best net return based on the way things stand today. If Nolasco does wind up pitching well next spring I certainly would shop him at that time.
  19. I called the stadium and asked what time the game was scheduled to start and they said, "When can you be here?"
