  1. This is it right here. Simple, but unfortunately not easy.
  2. There is not a better word to describe an effort to do a 2018 ranking one day after the end of the 2017 season.
  3. Postseason games, especially WS games, especially game sevens, almost always take longer because there are longer commercial breaks, more pitching changes, and more catcher visits to the mound. I do not favor limiting the second and third reasons because players and managers should be able to strategize as much as they feel is necessary, and there's little to no chance the first will be limited. I've said this before, but the rule changes I would favor are: 1.) Pitch clock, but only when the bases are empty. 2.) Batter clock (must be in the batter's box within a certain time). 3.) Larger strike zone coupled with a lower mound. And no others.
  4. Very strongly disagree.
  5. Possibly the only thing worse about Schoenfield taking himself seriously is anyone else taking him seriously. This should be given the amount of attention it deserves: none.
  6. Posts on the subject of orthopedic medicine by most of us: $.02. Posts on the subject of orthopedic medicine by Heezy1323: priceless.
  7. I believe almost all orthopedic bone implants are titanium. Strong, light, and unlikely to trigger an immune response.
  8. And Centeno was the only Astro not to see any game action in the WS.
  9. I note this but I don't like this.
  10. Well, it probably won't make much difference in the Tigers' fortunes for the next couple years. They could wind up threatening their 43-119 from 2003.
  11. I have to repeat this story. It was in spring training, I think 2004. Mientkiewicz gets on base and LeCroy immediately starts getting on Gardy to let him pinch run. So Gardy sends him out and takes Mientkiewicz out of the game. After the game Mientkiewicz said it was the longest 2 1/2 minutes of his life waiting for LeCroy to make the journey from the dugout to first base.
  12. The last game of the WS has some melancholy overtones. There are two seasons to the year: baseball season and waiting for baseball season. Starting tonight there's a void in my life until February.
  13. I certainly would not limit the search to those from Latin America but the coach who best serves the needs of the organization could very well be someone from Latin America.
  14. I for one am not surprised. As I said before, the Gold Glove winds up going to undeserving recipients more often than any other award in the game.
  15. I didn't watch the second half of last night's game. But here is what appears to me to have happened: 1.) Two teams with good hitters. 2.) Two teams with pitchers showing the effects of fatigue, not just because of the last few games but because we are now some 175 games into the season. 3.) Short distances down the lines, especially LF. 4.) Baseballs that have specifications favoring hitters. Combine these factors and you get a ridiculous baseball game. Entertaining? To many, I'm sure, but these games get tiring. I'd rather watch pitchers having their way with batters than watch batters having their way with pitchers.
  16. Gotta be TK.
  17. Keep in mind he was the bullpen coach for the A's, not the pitching coach.
  18. The line is not arbitrary. If you deliberately direct your celebration at your opponent in any way it's over the line. And here's what's childish: A batter staring down a pitcher and/or flipping a bat after hitting a home run. It's the equivalent of saying, "Ha-ha, you're a loser."
  19. My interpretation of your post is that you are missing the point. I think it's totally fine for one team or one player to celebrate wildly and enthusiastically but I think it's wrong and totally unnecessary for that celebration to include belittling the other team or another player.
  20. I think it's worse than that. I think they feel they are entitled to a WS title every 3 to 4 years.
  21. Look at the game in 2015 when the Twins scored those runs in the 9th inning to beat Detroit. Dozier hit that great dinger to win the game and was very, VERY demonstrative but there was nothing, NOTHING directed at Joakim Soria or any of the Tigers. It's simple. Exhibit good sportsmanship.
  22. I'm sure Molitor was completely on board with this decision. That said, I think part of Falvey's authority is to set parameters for who the organization hires for important positions. I think that Molitor truly buys in to Falvey's philosophies.
  23. Don Mattingly won 9 GG's while Kent Hrbek was also active. While Mattingly was a good defensive 1B he was no Kent Hrbek. Well intentioned though it may be, GG is the most farcical of all annual awards.
  24. I haven't thoroughly read every post in this thread. But I'll say this: Everything comes back to scouting and player development. If we want to make a splashy trade we need to have quality prospects to trade or we need to have quality prospects to step into the void left by quality higher-level players who are traded. If we want make a splashy free-agent-signing we need to have quality players to make this team an attractive destination. We can't afford to buy players to cover mistakes. We have to do a better job than everyone else of making our acquisitions into good players.
  25. Behind the plate tonight, and for game 7 if it's played: the one, the only, Phil Cuzzi. How does this happen?
