  1. I haven't been watching because I was afraid they'd show that stupid Rick Dempsey rain delay schtick.
  2. I think it's already too late for that. I'm sure his agent has already done the same research as Seth and more, and I'm sure players everywhere know what this young man can do to a pitched baseball. It's not a question of whether he gets a big long contract, it's when.
  3. I think almost everyone near the top of the organization thought that AAA was the best place for Buxton to be at this juncture because of his reduced playing time during the last two seasons and because of his struggles at the plate at the major league level. However, with this injury a player needs to be called up. So put yourself in TR and PM's position and look at it logically step by step. The first decision: whether to call up a player already on the 40-man or waive someone to make room for someone else. I think almost everyone would agree that the only reason to waive a player now is for the purpose of a trade. So that means considering only players from the 40-man. Next decision: choosing between an outfielder or a different position. I think almost everyone would agree that the player should be an outfielder. That narrows the choice to Arcia, Buxton or Kepler. While there's probably less than unanimous agreement on this I'm all but certain Kepler is the one TR and PM would rule out first. Next decision: choosing between Arcia or Buxton. Calling up Arcia means center field will be manned by Robinson or Rosario. Calling up Buxton means better defense in center field. Calling up Arcia means worse defense in center field and worse defense on a corner. In spite of not really wanting Buxton to be in the majors right now their hand is forced, so up he comes.
  4. Very similar to my hopeful projection. I'd hope Arcia would be there instead of the FA outfielder and I don't have specific bullpen names in mind. The only concern I have is that from what I read there really isn't a great FA catcher coming onto the market. A trade might be a better option. I'd also like to see a lefty in the rotation. Again, a trade may be the most likely way to accomplish that.
  5. So, how would you feel if the Twins and Yankees made a trade: 25-man active roster for 25-man active roster: https://vimeo.com/47283296
  6. Maybe those moves would have worked. But I think that Ryan and others in the organization have a much better handle on what our minor leaguers have to offer than we do. Do you really think they felt those players would be better than who we have in the bullpen but left them in the minors anyway? I think it's far more likely that they felt those players just aren't major league ready. I think it's far more likely that they decided that they are going to do what they feel is best to prepare their prospects and the organization as a whole for next year and beyond. And if that means going forward with the current bullpen and taking our lumps this season then that's the price we pay. Not fun now, but we can only hope it's the best plan moving forward.
  7. So what should Ryan have done? We need at least 3 good arms to fix the bullpen problem, probably more. We'd have to give up a lot of good prospects for the sake of being one of ten postseason teams. It's not that he's indecisive, he made the decision not to gamble on this season but rather to gamble on the future. I think that's OK.
  8. The much bigger question is this: Who replaces them? It does no good to simply get rid of the most important front office people unless someone better takes over. If you bring in just any random baseball guy there's a very good chance that things will be worse, not better.
  9. OK team, man up and give it right back to them.
  10. Joe Maddon would have intentionally walked Rodriguez. He intentionally walked Josh Hamilton with the bases loaded a few years ago. Tampa Bay wound up winning the game.
  11. Yep. If you want to end a war you want your enemy to see the light and stop the aggression.
  12. There are a lot of people who regularly say prayers for members of our military serving overseas. I've always thought that it makes more sense to pray for the enemy because if you want divine intervention that's where it would do the most good.
  13. Well, now that you mention it I think she does!
  14. For me, watching any game between those two teams would feel like an eternity.
  15. I'd never wish such an injury on a fellow human being. However, this is Angel Hernandez we're talking about so that's different.
  16. I don't know. Deolis Guerra looked like a future stud when he was 18.
  17. Nobody goes to the restaurants in New York. They're too crowded.
  18. During the last offseason I hoped the 2016 lineup would be: Buxton 8 Santana 6 Sano 5 Vargas DH Arcia 7 Pinto 2 Mauer 3 Dozier 4 Hicks 9 I still think Vargas, Arcia and Santana can achieve major league form. I'm doubtful about Pinto, which is truly unfortunate for him. So now I'd make a couple tweaks, reiterating that this is what I hope for, not necessarily what I'm predicting: Buxton 8 Hicks 9 Sano 5 Vargas DH Arcia or Rosario 7 Dozier 4 Mauer 3 (Catcher, even if it's Suzuki) 2 Santana 6 One factor I had in mind with this lineup is trying to alternate right handed batters with lefties or switch hitters.
  19. Exactly. 2016 is when the outfield prospects are ready to become players.
  20. This reminds me of something Patrick Reusse said once. He has noticed that if a woman eats a certain food her sexual desire disappears. That certain food is wedding cake.
  21. As these posts point out, we don't want to be haunted by giving up on those two too soon. There's too much potential there. Even if Arcia struggles again next year I'd rather put up with him underproducing on our major league roster than give him up because he's out of options.
  22. Buxton's current playing ability is below Hicks'. Buxton's current playing ability is probably below Hunter's. But that's not the same thing as value. And while nobody knows enough to say with certainty what his future playing ability will be we can make reasonable projections that it will be greatly improved over his current playing ability and stay that way for many, many years. That's what makes his value higher than Hicks' and immeasurably higher than Hunter's.
  23. Should? No. Will? I hope not.
  24. Just saw the video of Rosario's dinger. It's totally ridiculous that a major leaguer would even swing at that pitch, much less hit it over the wall.
