    I understand the dean move. He's useful since he is lefthanded. He can spot start, but a back up long man or fill in if a couple Left ganders go down.

    Losing pinto and artcher is a numbers game. With Murphy, garner and turner pinto is not going to catch. We have plenty of DH/1B types that are in front of pinto not including park. I suspect the twins view artcher as a AAAA type of pitcher. Tonkin has more upside. Maybe a change of scenery will help artcher. I surprised by Jones. He is the type of guy a team will stash. Rosario is not, he has not pitched enough. Some of us hmthough Jones may make his big league debut this year. I just hope it's not for another team. Who cares about Levi. No one will give him a roster spot all year. He is not josh Hamilton or deshields.

    I don't know what to think. The Twins are not acting like the Twins so they may make a Free Agent Splash. It would not surprise me if they signed a veteran outfielder on a 1 year deal. I am thinking Drew Stubbs. A right-hander with some power and can play center field. On opening day, he can play center, with Rosario and Arcia on the corners. Once Buxton is ready, he can platoon with Arcia. Of course, this presumes Arcia gets things straightened out. I could also see Raja Davis on a 1 year deal. He could bat lead-off and the Twins looked into him a couple years ago. The starter I see getting traded is Milone, because I think they keep Gibson since he still has upside. Milone is still under team control and you know what you are going to get. He is decent and left-handed. We could get a B/B- type prospect or a decent veteran outfielder for him. I can't think of a good trade partner off the top of my head, maybe to Seattle for Franklin Guiterrez, Atlanta for Markakis, Boston for Jackie Bradley.

    Good article. Low risk/high reward doesn't do this justice. It's more like no risk/all reward. If he ends up as a roster fuller in AAA there is nothing wrong with that. If he ends up giving the twins a couple good months and peters out, a la Thompson last year, no big loss. If he turns into this years Ryan Madson I would not be surprised.

    A few thoughts: 1.) is it possible this guy will start in AAA to get his sea legs before making the jump? I like the idea of competition so I hope they do not just write him in as a starter. 2.). All the talk by Ryan that he is not shopping anyone is just GM talk. I suspect Ryan listens to all offers for plouffe.

    The other thing this move does is block some of our young players. If he signs a 4 year contract what happens to Vargas? I know AB walker can play OF, but with Sano moving to the outfield, with Rosario, Hicks and buxton, where does everyone fit in? I expect a trade for a starter.

    I do not like the trade. Gibson has a lot of value since he is under team control for a while. I agree Gibson is not great, but he is solid. The only way I do this trade is if the Yankees take on Tex salary or takes on a bad contract from the Twins

    I like a lot of your points. Twins definately need to trade a starter to open a rotation spot. Milone makes the most sense because he is cheap. They should be able to get something half ways decent for him. I would keep Hughes. His contract isn't that bad. He will likely not replicate his 2014 season, but he should pitch better than he did this year. I would be fine with trading Santana or Nolasco, but I doubt that happens. I do not see the Twins will to eat the salary. With Milone out, they have a spot open for Berrios or Duffy. I am fine with Escobar at SS. I think they need to trade either Polanco or Santana. Polanco does not field well enough to be an everyday shortshop (IMHO). We have Dozier at 2nd and Plouffe or Sano at 3rd. So I do not see room for Polanco. Santana could a super utility guy if he figures out a plate approach. The twins also have a glut of corner outfield/1st base/DH types: Arcia, AB Walker, Vargas, D. Hicks, Harrison. I would prefer the defensive outfield of Rosario, Hicks and Buxton going forward. Maybe package some of AA and AAA sluggers for major league ready catcher and a bullpen arm. Another thought I have had, is why not let Mauer catch? If he is only going to hit .270 with a little power at 1st base, there is not need to preserve him. Let him catch 4 days a week and have Suzuki catch the other days.

    Im for it. Suzuki is getting used a ton, so its not surprising his batting numbers are down. For example, he is catching the day game today after catching the night game yesterday. He has done that a lot this year. I dont think Teagarden is that good, but he is an upgrade over Fryer and Hermann

    Releasing Boyer and having another bench bat would be good too. In fact, releasing Boyer and letting one of our AAA RPs developing would be great too. Arcia is not exactly lighting the world on fire in AAA. I suppose it makes sense to let him play everyday in AAA than sit on the bench in Target Field. Same with Vargas. I think part of the reason Santana was playing so much is that they want him to develop.

    I'm fine with Escobar at Shortshop everyday the rest of year. In fact, he should have been the everyday shortshop about 2 months ago. Santana needs to work on a lot of things and AAA is a better place to do it than sitting on the bench at the MLB level. Hopefully, he has a Hicksian turn around by next year. Polanco has a lot of things to work on too, whether it is AAA or AA doesnt really matter. I see why they like Santana's upside, but playing him at CF last year stunted his SS growth. 13 pitchers vs. no bench, I suspect a pitcher will get released, I think they are just figuring out who. I suspect they dont want to trade for Grahm or just give him back to ATL. I suspect they dont want to release Boyer, Duensing or Fein. They cant send down O'Rourke, he is pitching too well. I would be in favor of releasing Pelfry, putting May back in the rotation, and then bringing up a bench bat. I suspect at some point that would be Arcia.

    I Don't think the trade is horrible but I don't think it's great either. I would feel a lot better if we just traded one pitcher but 2 is too much even if they are both low minors pitchers. However, Jepson is pretty good. He would be a back of the bullpen arm for good bullpens. I am not concerned about some of his stats being down this partly due to pitching in the AL east. The fastball velocity is the most concerning, but his velocity was also down in 2011. Looking at his appearances, he appeared 74 times in 2014 and 68 in 2010. This likely explains why his velocity is down. Also, it will create better competition in the bullpen next year so guys like stauffer don't receive automatic spots or we end up keeping a rule 5 guy all year. Also, we could let guys like Tonkin and archer pitch in earlier innings.

    I think if you switched Rosario for Harrison it would work. Open up a spot in the OF for Bruce immediately. Reds have major league ready OF. They will want a minor league pitcher too. I like the idea of Hu, but I would consider Gonsalves untouchable. I would maybe trade Batts.

    No way I would give up that much for rentals. Arcia makes sense because we have a logjam at corner outfield, 1st base and DH, with Rosario, Hicks (eventually moved for Buxton), AB Walker, Harrison, Hicks, Sano. I would not give up Stewart. Maybe, a lesser pitcher if Baltimore bites on one of our AAA starts not named Berrios.

    Suzuki is no surprise. I recall him stating last year that he was expecting to hit better in 2014 b/c he had not caught as much in Washington. He was right, hence his 1st half for 2014. The guy is catching slit bacau de we don't have a decent or even marginal back up. If we did Suzuki would be hitting better. Send Santana to AAA and let Escobar finish the year at SS, defensive upgrade and at least he draws some pitches in his at bats. Vargas is no surpise. He needs at least a year at AAA. He never spent a full season in the highe levels of the minor and thus did not have teams see him for a 3rd or 4th time. He would have been better off waiting like AB walker and Harrison are.

    I wouldn't trade Gibson or berries. Each the contract money and send a combo of the following: Kepler, Vargas, Meyer, may, walker, Harrison, Polanski, Tonkin, Hu, Stewart.

    I suspect the twins will go with someone that doesn't cost too much, Cotts makes the most sense. They could probably get him for Levi Michael

    Heyman didnt see to put much thought into this. If the Twins target a bat I think it will be a 1B/DH type. Vargas could use some more time in the minors. I found the Ryan Howard rumor somewhat interest. What about trading Philly Nolasco for Howard straight up and both sides eating the money of the contracts? Without Arcia or Vargas we dont have any left-handed power in the lineup. Or what about sending Nolasco and a B-/C+ prospect (Niko Goodman?) to Philly for Howard and have Philly take on some of Howard's contract? A leadoff hitter would be a great get, so we can move Dozier down in the line up, but I cant think of anyone out there who would be available.

    I agree, but I think what has helped is improved defense. I do not think our defense is elite but it's better than last year. Hunter is better than willing ham defensively. Hicks has played well defensively as has Robinson. We do not have Bartlett or collabello in the outfield. Rosario is an upgrade. Mayer is improved at 1st.

    I with you on this. Santana needs some more time to develop at shortstop. Unfortunately, he had to play CF last year and lost some of his developmental time. Escobar is an upgrade defensively and has good at bats. I think part of the reason the pitchers are doing well is the improved defense. Obviously, Arcia does not help in that department. If the Twins wants Vargas to stay in Roch, then have Arcia do some DHing. Or bring Arcia back up and release Schaffer when he gets off the DL.

    What are everyone's thoughts on Trey Vavra and Alex Swim? Are these two projected as eventual everyday major leaguer? Or will they plateau out once they reach the higher levels of the minor leagues? I am really interested in Swim because he hit really well last year too. Does he switch positions permanently? I saw he was playing LF the other day.

    I agree with just about all of this, Schafer on the DL allows Rosario and hicks to get a longer look. I think Arica will replace Rosario, since Eddie needs some more fine tuning at AAA. Hicks may just stick around the rest of the year. Obviously vernier is out for Nunez. But I think the twins could make some other moves, what about letting santana work on his fielding and pitch selection at AAA for a few months and let Escobar play short? Give Vargas a month or two in Rochester and let hunter, Mauer and Arica DH?

    I will write, similar to what I wrote last game about the lineup. I love seeing Escobar on the lineup, but not in the outfield. Put him at short, Santana in CF and Schafer in left. I get playing Santana at short for the long term. But if the twins are focusing on the long term Pelfry would not starting.
