4 Things We Know After the Stunning Twins-Yankees Trade
AKTwins replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
ESPN+ likes the trade for the twins. If they sign Story, this makes sense. Reading between the lines, it does not appear other teams are willing to give Story the huge contract to play SS. Seems to be a perfect match, he can play SS in MN and the Twins have the money. Maybe a little discount for him to play SS. In a way they would trade Donaldson contract for Story’s contract, but would obviously owe more the long run for Story. But story is around 7 years younger. Seems like a good swap. If they trade for, and extend, Manaea or Montas it makes even more sense. For catcher, I think the FO believes a veteran defense first catcher is the same as Rortvedt. Maybe they think Chris Williams will be ready.- 120 replies

Assessing the Twins Garver for Kiner-Falefa Trade
AKTwins replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think Kiner-Falefa is a better hitter than it may seem. He doesn’t have the huge OPS number that today’s analytics salivate over. However, his OBP is over 300. Texas has not been very good the last couple years, which I think is why Kiner-Falefa batted 1 or 2 in their line-up. Last year, Kiner-Falefa has 677 plate appearances. Of the 677, 584 where when he batted 1 or 2 in the line-up. He had 71 plate appearance batting 7. His BA when batting 7 was .343 and his OPS was .873. Kiner-Falefa won’t lead off or bat 2 for the Twins even with Garver gone. I am thinking he bats between 7-9. I am not expecting an batting title or an OPS at .870 for him, but I think he will improve on his career numbers. OPS .730-.750 is reasonable. I think a capable bat for Kiner-Falea is Josh Harrison. Harrison’s life time OPS is .719. A .050 jump in OPS for Kiner-Falea would put him at Harrison’s level, which I think is reasonable.- 57 replies

Offseason Status Update: Back to Business
AKTwins replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Here is what I hope for and think is realistic for FA signings. I assume these guys would be willing to play in MN: - Trevor Story. ESPN has predicted he will sign with the Twins. Looking at $25 mil per year. I suspect a contract 3 years or less or one with a player opt out. - Kikuchi. No sure what he yearly value is, but I suspect a multi year contract. He is no ace by any means, but he would be a left handed starter. At a minimum he would be an innings eater. At best, he is a solid #3. - one year contract for a bounce back candidate. I am thinking Archer or Boyd. - for relief pitching, I don’t think this FO officer will make any sort of splash or even offer a multi year contract. - 4th outfielder. Herrera makes a lot of sense. He will play a lot as the twins rotate starters through the DH spot. I am expect Kirloff to start out in LF. - everyday LF if Kiriloff does not start out in LF. I am thinking Dickerson, Pham or Peterson. For each I am thinking 1 year 7-10 mil. -
I’m thinking it may be time to call Rooker up. Kepler in CF, Rosario in RF and Rooker in LF. Rooker could platoon with Cave.

Fool me thrice...what do the Twins know that forced the Graterol trade
AKTwins commented on sthpstm's blog entry in Postma Posts
I agree with this 100%. I still think the deal gets done. It wil, be interesting to see if the twins are the ones who need to add a player. The Twins have several decent prospects that are blocked. Maybe add one of the blocked prospects and see if we can get some international signing bonus money bac. k. -
I would out Wade in the fine to trade column, wish he was playing better. I agree with any AAA SP, a rebuilding team will want someone major league ready. I would put Arreaz in there because he is at peak vale and I think we have enough depth at the major league to weather a storm. I suspect Raley has value even with the injury. I would put Celestino and Baboo in the mix. I'd prefer to keep some of the younger pitcher. For a control able I would put Enlow and Jordan on the table.

What do we think it would take to get some of the relief pitcher names? On an mlb trade rumor char I brought up trading Cave for will Smith. San Fran needs outfielders and doesn't want a complete rebuild. The moderator believes it would take more even though smith is a rental, but believed San Fran would be interested in Cave. So maybe Cave and Blackenhorn? Cave and Colina? Cave and Jax? I don't think we go with a top 15 prospect for a rental.

My reasons for brining back Mauer for 2019: - still a very good defensive first baseman - Rooker has not taken an at beatable AA, may take another year before he is ready for an everyday role. - we have a hole at 1B and DH for 2019. Austin should have one of the spots. Sano will spend some time at both. Mauer can rotate in. - who will be the lead off hitter in 2019? -

I like the trade. Let's give Curtiss or Bard some innings and see if they figure it out. As an article on this site point out a week or so ago, we lost Rodriguez and Rosario without giving either a chance.- 88 replies

What is everyone’s thoughts on Navarretto? My understanding was always that he had a very strong arm and was a plus defensive catcher. Seems like he is figuring out how to hit a little bit. Could he become a number 2 catcher in the mlb?

Article: Exploring The Back-End Of The 40-Man Roster
AKTwins replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Boshers is #1 and everyone else is a distant #2 until they have to make another decision. I can't believe Moyà would even be mentioned. I would rather release Grossman than Moyà. At least we have Granite to replace Grossman. Good Lefties don't grow on trees. There are a lot of Bosher types out there.- 39 replies

Article: The Impending Rochester Rotation Crunch
AKTwins replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think Enns could or should be the long man in the bulllen. I suspect they will not get someone that is good enough to stash from the Rule 5 draft. Enns can have the role Dillon Gee had last year. Couple of spot starts. Coming in during blow outs and short starts. He’s cheap, and has some upside. No need to waste the long arm spot on a 30 something journeyman.- 102 replies

I agree that ledger so hound have been given a chance his year. He should have taken the starts from Wilk and even Turley. Colon has pitched well for the Twins, but he is not going to be here next year. Give the innings to Seldgers and see what he can do.

I'm thinking Enns should take Garcia's rotation spot right now. Let's see what he can do. I feel much better about him than the Wilks and Turleys of the world

Article: Twins Close To Acquiring LHP Jaime Garcia?

My bad. I would be really disappointed if it's Garver. I still John Ryan Murphy makes some sense. It wasn't that long ago he was considered a #1 catcher. -

They aren't giving up Gonslaves, Jorge or Stweart. My guess is the convo is currently about how much salary the Twins will. With Hughes on the 60 dayDL, insurance should be picking up how tab, so there is some money available. MY guess is that someone who we have hardly heard of in low A ball or a rookie ball is traded or a minor league lifer like Levi Michael. If anyone on our MLB top 30 is traded I will be surprised. I like the move if we don't give up a top 30. With Santiago hurt, Hughes done and Bartolo looking at retirement, someone has to give us some innings. Our AA guys aren't quite ready and there is no one in AAA. Sleeves has been pedestrian this year and is not on the 40 man. -
What's everyone's thoughts on Wade's ceiling? Is he a 4th OF, platoon player, solid everyday player? He behind Granite in the pecking order to be called up eventually. Would he have value in a trade?

Article: 2017 Twins Player Predictions: Eddie Rosario
AKTwins replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I completely agree it will be one extreme or the other. I also agree that he will be very streaky. I just hope during the down times he does not let his issues at the plate affect his defense. It always brought up he had more RBIs in the Appy league than Sano. I wish his walk rate was a little better. It would be nice to put his RHB between Dozier and Sano or Park and Sano. I'm looking at .245/290/440. 25 doubles, 8 triples, 18 home runs. -

I wouldn't mind seeing him DH a little bit. With Park being sent down and Vargas hurt he could get some at bats there and let Escobar play short. This would help on days when Gibson is pitching.
