  1. Wouldn't be possible to operate their own camera on the road like they could at home. TV broadcasts are delayed several seconds from real time, so they couldn't just use any old TV stream. Few stadiums allow seating in the batters eye, so it would typically be impossible to have a scout relaying signs from the stands. So yeah, I doubt they had a system on the road other than the more orthodox systems of sign stealing such as from the first base coach's box.
  2. I also find it humorous that the Astros were a better offensive team on the road in 2017...
  3. The 29 other teams are doing it too. If they are going to punish one team, they need to punish them all.
  4. Rob Manfred's MLB is a joke. Like we needed a more offense friendly environment LMAO.
  5. Not according to Fangraphs, which is the most reliable source for sabermetric stats that are available to the public.
  6. Also, K/9, WAR, ERA, xFIP... Verlander led in wins and innings pitched, barely in both categories.
  7. Despite Gerrit Cole putting together one of the greatest pitching performances of the last decade, he was defeated in the BBWAA award voting system by a numerically inferior pitcher. Should the BBWAA do away with their awards to avoid being repeatedly embarrassed by a small group of journalists who are unable to use basic resources such as Fangraphs? I am interested in all opinions!
  8. It has long been acknowledged in the industry that the majority of teams are doing this.
  9. LaMonte Wade is categorically not a superior defender to Rosario.
  10. That was at Comerica, correct? For me personally, it would be Eddie Rosario's first at bat and the Twins comeback against the Tigers in the 9th when they were down by five runs.
  11. 2nd highest DRS, highest UZR, and highest Def rating for American League left fielders with a minimum of 800 innings.
  12. I do not trust the voting process for any awards. I am basing my comment off of defensive metrics, my own personal scouting, and insider knowledge in the game. Also, please do not be so patronizing as to suggest I reevaluate how I judge baseball defenders - I have professional experience doing just that.
  13. Grossman was the best left fielder in the AL who played a minimum of 800 innings. Just a few years ago, he was the worst defensive outfielder in baseball. Last year, Eddie Rosario was the second best defensive left fielder in the AL who played a qualified amount of innings, but this year, the metrics were not as kind to him. The impact of defense is overvalued, since better positioning and player development is what has the most influence on being good in this category.
  14. ??? Turner was never in the legal running lane, which is required for the "last step" rule to apply. It also doesn't matter whether the runner can control where the ball goes, because he can control where he runs. Holbrook was 110% right on his call.
  15. Care to elaborate? It can be a great way to get underrated players. I don't see why Wisler isn't any better than say, Fernando Romero.
  16. The Nationals probably already know all the Astros' signs by now.
  17. He has no website. In his thread, he does say you cannot arrive at any conclusions from his analysis, so... He does provide an equation that looks like it was designed to be run through a R program, but then again, he does not share his actual results. His equation did not account for the nationality of the umpire, which should be included.
  18. Exactly. This probably isn't statistically significant. The tweet deserves no credibility until he cites his sources and methods, and provides the actual data.
  19. Nobody is going to fire their main analytical guy right as they head into the World Series. My guess is the only negative consequence he will have is not landing that sweet Red Sox gig that many insiders considered him the favorite for.
  20. Awesome seeing Pres with the big strikeouts.
  21. I'm having a real hard time seeing how Dobnak and Smeltzer can contribute to a major league team as starters for a full season. Both are bullpen arms at best. Perez and Gibson were both beyond competent the first half of the season. I doubt we have that kind of contribution from our #3 and #4 starters next season unless we get new #1 and #2 starters.
  22. The Twins would be extremely lucky to finish anywhere near the right side of .500 ball if they go with this do-nothing rotation.
  23. When every marginal call goes one team's way, you know the umpires are rooting for somebody.
