  1. Dave Martinez, who is the Cubs bench coach. I think that the Cubs assistant hitting coach Eric Hinske would have a shot at the job.
  2. Raul Ibanez or David Ross.
  3. He has gone on to have a lot of success with Arizona.
  4. I got 76%. Didn't realize it was 2016 because the title said 2017. Had 30 seconds to go when I realized.
  5. I have talked to many pro and amateur scouts, and I can say there is not a big variety in the quality of area scouts. Even scouts whose organizations tend to be viewed as analytical are not any better at breaking down a players strengths and weaknesses and projecting them than teams that lean more traditional. I would say that the biggest gap in the ability to evaluate talent is between major league teams and college teams, not between separate major league teams. That being said, I think that Dan Gladden is right. If you love the game of baseball enough you will watch a lot and pay attention to detail, and learn from what you see. I don't know a single scout who was better at their job because of time they spent in a classroom. It is all about time spent on baseball fields.
  6. Lewis is adding a toe tap to go along with a leg kick? I think we are going to see some massive timing issues in that swing.
  7. Or a Hrbowski doppelganger from previous days.
  8. A story about Josh Hader: A few years back when the Astros wanted to acquire Trevor Plouffe someone asked me who I would personally want in return. Josh Hader was the prospect who I liked the most in the Astros farm system, so I promptly named him. Disappointing to see him in a Brewers uniform tonight....
  9. Probably not. A lot of older area scouts have tough times finding jobs with new teams.
  10. Funny thing is that Bichette has changed his swing considerably since he got drafted. During the summer showcase circuit before his senior year he was using a toe tap with hands that were nowhere near being direct to the ball. Now he is using a leg kick similar to Donaldson and Bautista's, except when he gets to two strikes, when he uses almost no lower body movement. Also, his hands are less leaky. I don't think that the Blue Jays have a whole lot of individuality in their organization. It seems like everybody has a swing similar to Bautista's. Except maybe Vlad Guerrero Jr.
  11. Mahtomedi’s senior left fielder Lincoln Rock came just shy of a home run in batting practice on Friday, which would have been a first of his high school career. Now he can spend the rest of his life telling stories about how Jack Schwietz and Weston Shelander hit the ball farther than he did, proving that pitchers rake. Another note from Mahtomedi: During legion ball, pinch runner Brandon Anderson was ejected for playing the game too hard. Farmington nearly came back to win what had been a 12-2 game, thanks to their number nine hitter’s great at bats. Fortunately, their team had nothing on Chuck B.
  12. I wish you would have asked him about his love for conspiracy theories, and if he would start a Twins Daily account so he could discuss it in the sports bar. That would be epic.
  13. I knew they liked him. An executive with the Mariners told me that they really wanted him, but that they prefer going with college bats in the first round. When he was available in the second when they picked I knew they would take him.
  14. Sophomore. And his brother is going to play at Stanford next spring.
  15. I want Mike Baumann. I saw him throw privately last week and was really impressed.
  16. So we pretty much drafted Enlow where Leach was expected to go, and Leach where Enlow was expected to go.
  17. I know for a fact that McKay prefers pitching.
  18. Nope. Evan White was expected to go in the 15-20 range.
  19. Love that 2.67 GPA. Shows he has great work ethic. LOL.
  20. The Twins are the only people impressed with the Twins right now.
