  1. Seth, I noticed that a majority of the players you featured are lower round players (8th round being the highest I see) and a couple of international signings for a decent amount of change $1.5 million. Is that a trend with other teams that they don't invest high draft picks on 1st baseman types?
  2. I can't speak for all, but I am concerned of a step backwards for Duffey. He has the SSS of 10 MLB starts, and pitched a career high amount of 180+ innings. The Twins wouldn't have been in the playoff race until 3 games remaining without his contributions, so I hope I am wrong.
  3. I think there's going to be a lot of friendly banter and ranting on this site in regards to when Berrios should be making his debut. It's going to be a lot of fun to finally see him make the Twins roster, whether that's in mid-to-late April (the camp I'm in) or later in the season. I'm also excited to see Buxton's potential breakthrough in 2016. He showed some positive improvements in his game in September, and I hope he runs away with the CF job right out of ST.
  4. Leidner waits until the bowl game to have his best game of the season, maybe his career. I'd still like for Croft or Green to win the job next year. Who knows, maybe Claeys or Weber the QB coach can help him progress further than Limegrove or Kill ever did.
  5. I'm not sure exactly how my family got this opportunity as I was only 9 or 10 years old at the time. We were able to get a full tour of the Metrodome, checking out the locker rooms, the bullpen, dugout... I'm sure my mother has a picture of myself and my older brother on the bullpen phone. The best part was after the tour, we went into a room to have a private meeting with Kirby Puckett. Keep in mind my age at the time, but my memory was he treated us like we were life long friends. He was cracking jokes, and willing to sign anything that was presented. He must have signed around 40 items, including several baseball cards, bats, and magazines he was featured on. My favorite item he signed, and is still framed proudly in my bedroom today, is an authentic Kirby Puckett jersey. He signed the jersey and put a personal note to me as well during his time when we met. It's a conversation piece that everyone brings up when they see the framed jersey in my place to today.
  6. I'd much rather see Milone traded to another team, and let the upside of May play out in the rotation. We know what Milone is, a back of the rotation starter. And if the Twins were to make the playoffs, he's not going to be included in the playoff rotation. As Nick mentioned, he doesn't offer much as a relief pitcher, so what are the Twins going to do with him if they were to make the playoffs in 2016? The title of this article is "Let's stop discounting Milone" but why are we discounting May's SSS of 25 starts?
  7. So a management strategy of top revenue teams is to play younger, better players?? I think you may be reading into something that's not present in Dave's post.
  8. Agreed. He flew up the system last season and looked pretty awesome in a SSS of 10 MLB starts. I can see him regressing if that curve ball of his isn't as sharp as last season.
  9. Do the Twins have a track record of promoting bullpen arms from AA to the MLB? Or are we hoping for a fast track of those guys getting hot for 5-6 weeks, promote to AAA, get hot for another 5-6 weeks, and be on the MLB club by June/July?
  10. I agree and I'd think Claeys would agree. He only has 3 years, and I'd say even less, to prove that he can be a Big 10 head coach. If I were him, I wouldn't waste precious time on a QB who's proven time and time again that he's not the answer.
  11. Good news for the Gophers this weekend when QB Seth Green committed to the team. Finally, we may have someone who can usurp Leidner of his starting spot. I don't read into how many stars a particular recruit has (he's 4 stars), but any time we can win a recruiting war over schools like Oregon, that's a big win for the program.
  12. I think the Twins have made some strides in regards to C. People may not be happy with giving up Hicks for Murphy, but he certainly has a higher floor than what Herrmann or Fryer could provide. In regards to that potential outfield, I will quote from the movie Home Alone. "Buzz, your girlfriend. WOOF."
  13. Touche, Seth. I guess my perception the last few off-season is different than the reality.
  14. I'm just tired of the same song and dance every off-season whether the Twins are coming off a 60 win season or 90 win season. TR waits until the market settles, and makes middling, underwhelming moves once the dust settles (with the exception of the SP signings) It would be a welcomed breath of fresh air if TR was aggressive in targeting a player he wants, and get him signed, instead of waiting to see who's left.
  15. That very well could be the case. Depends on what your expectation is for a return. My expectation is to acquire a quality bullpen arm for Plouffe. If that happens, I will be happy.
  16. I don't know how much we should be reading into the return that Lawrie got compared to what the Twins could get with Plouffe. Sure Lawrie's potential is higher than Plouffe, but he's not come close to reaching that potential in 5 MLB seasons. There's been rumblings in the last 2 organizations he's been with that Lawrie shows immature, me-first tendencies in the club house. The move looks more like desperation, let's get this guy out of here ASAP. Plouffe's been portrayed as a "good guy" in the club house, and puts up similar stats. I would imagine the return for Plouffe is greater than 2 top 20-ish organization prospects.
  17. Very good point Ash. That's the risk this kind of deal would create. If Shields struggles next season, we're on the hook for the additional 2 years with a declining asset. If Shields returns to form, then he's most likely opting out and we're stuck with 1 good year of him and a comp 1st round pick. If the trade was Nolasco for Shields straight up, I'd probably take that risk because Nolasco is dead money for 2 years anyways, and the upside of getting 1 good Shields year and a 1st round pick is a pretty good return for Nolasco. I just don't know if I believe that's all the Padres would want in return for Shields.
  18. One thing to note about Shields. He does have an opt-out of his current 3/63 deal after the 2016 season. Considering next year's crop of free agents is pretty thin and a guy like 37 year old John Lackey can still get 2/32, Shields could be one and done for any team that decides to acquire him. The fact that he can do that, and the team that owns him could get a QO decline, still makes him more valuable than Nolasco.
  19. I see 3 names that are automatics in the pen (Perk, May, Jepsen) and a lot of question marks with the other names. I understand your position Seth to only sign 1 FA to a multi-year deal and let the internal options battle it out to fill out the rest of the spots. I'm just worried that's going to be haunt the team like last year to try and count on too many unknowns. I'd prefer to sign 2 FA's so the Twins can have 5 trustworthy names in the pen, and fill the other 2 spots with whoever steps up from our internal options.
  20. You make a good point.. it would be an incredibly SSS so the stat you replied to doesn't have a whole lot of merit. Only a very short list of people I can think of.... Pablo Sandoval - guy has to be pushing 275 these days and still plays 100+ games a season at 3B Jason Heyward - Also helps that he's 6'5" so he's just a large man in general Nelson Cruz - Another big guy in the OF
  21. The fact that he's out of options cements my stance of not offering arbitration to him. Unless there's a pending deal in place to trade him this winter, then fine, offer arbitration. Personally I'd rather have an open competition between all of the young guys for the #5 spot this spring. And best case, I'd like to see Berrios up ASAP once the service time loophole has passed.
  22. I'm in the camp of non-tendering Milone. Whether he's at $4.5 million up to $7 million, the amount is still going to be significant enough where he will be favored over a younger player such as Berrios, Duffey, Meyer, etc. That's been the argument this whole time with Nolasco, Hughes, Santana, etc. that they're making too much money not to be in the rotation. In a perfect world he would be in the same role he was last year; in AAA until an injury happens. But the Twins will not operate like that with his pending salary next season.
  23. Alright, he's here! Now it will be interesting to see if a Plouffe trade is coming soon.
  24. It would have been nice to be the first team to pounce on a pitcher this offseason. Now the market is set, and the 3 other notable pitchers are all going to want more than $22 million a season.
  25. They had another QB commit to the team other than Croft?
