    I'm glad to read posts so far to buy... I couldn't disagree more with the sell argument. After watching 6 years of brutal baseball, some want to continue selling off veterans and miss the playoffs again? This team is 1-2 average to good pitchers away from being dangerous... Santana and Berrios continue to pitch well. Mejia is starting to gel over his last 6 starts. The starting 9 has been (minus Buxton recently) healthy all season long. My view as a fan may be different than yours... Whenever a team I like is within striking distance of the playoffs, I want them to go for it. I'll never blame an organization for selling off some of the future if they feel they have a good enough team to compete. Sam Bradford for a 1st round pick comes to mind for Vikings fans... There's plenty of time to rebuild the future in the future.

    2 out of 3 against the Yanks is no small feat. Good for the Twins! During this off-day, they really need to get this pitching staff/short bench situation figured out. Send down a pitcher and call up a position player to prevent situations like today from happening. Polanco probably needs some mental days off from baseball. Grossman should only play LF in case of emergency.

    Not surprising. I don't expect him to do any better against the Dodgers and he'll probably hang it up.

    They should do both options... Trade a non-essential prospect, or an older prospect the FO doesn't have faith in for a RP. And get rid of the failed RPs on roster (Breslow, Pressly, Belisle) for minor leaguers. Reed and Curtiss should be on an advanced development schedule to get them to the majors ASAP.

    You named 2 AL teams, and only the Astros are clear division winners. Chief was talking about the AL Wildcard, which currently has 5-6 teams around .500 competing for 2 spots.

    At this point, especially with RP, the team's needing 20-25 good innings from them in the regular season. Hopefully Falvey finds a diamond in the rough and trades a non-essential prospect to acquire them. Dave Cameron on Fangraphs suggests some guy named Danny Barnes from the Blue Jays as a sneaky trade piece. As far as a SP, ideally a controllable pitcher beyond this year. But, if they can trade a prospect they don't believe in for a rental, maybe that could help too.

    Concur 100%. I don't know how Falvey and Levine could walk down to the clubhouse if they decide to sell off players for the future while this team is competitive. It would send a horrible message to the young players, coaching staff, and fans.

    The short answer, no. The long answer, no. Dozier had a career year last year and only the Dodgers were interested in potentially trading for him. There hasn't been any significant injuries to 2B across baseball, and Dozier's numbers have predictably fallen back to Earth. Honestly I think the Twins are stuck with him until his contract runs out. Or they decide to trade him for a lesser prospect during the last year of his contract.

    State of the American League: Heading into today, there are 7 teams with a record of .500 or better. The Twins are one of them. Cleveland isn't some powerhouse team, as Nick noted in the article. Their pitching is just as suspect as the Twins. The Twins could really get a boost from even a competent SP to replace Gibson's -1 bWAR. Or the revolving #5 starter that I'm sure combines for -3 bWAR. You can plan for the future all you want, but nothing's guaranteed. This team is one major injury to Sano, Kepler, etc. away from being a bottom feeder again whether it's 2017, 2018, or 2021. I'd certainly like to strike while the league as a whole is mediocre, and the starting 9 is healthy.

    I just read this interesting tid-bit on Fangraphs' Sunday Notes Article: On July 17, 1990, the Twins turned two 5-4-3 triple plays in a 1-0 win against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. The following day, the teams combined to turn 10 double plays — six by Minnesota, and four by Boston — in a 5-4 Red Sox win.

    There's a new Jewish-style deli that opened up down the road from my place... They make NY style bagels in a variety of flavors, and of course shmear! I've had more bagels over the last 3 weeks than I care to admit....

    Correct. Just not tender him a contract and move on. He won't be worth the arbitration price anyway.

    This is where I am. He's going to have a tough time maintaining an .800+ OPS if he continues to struggle against LH pitching. Sure, he could settle in at the .700-.750 range, but that's probably not a top 20 prospect anymore.

    From what I'm seeing on FanGraphs, he's using his change just as much as he did last year, and using his curveball more this year. Last year as the "2 pitch pitcher" he did pretty well earning 4.8 fWAR. Can't explain the uptick in walks this year... Maybe it's injury, maybe it's something else. If the underlying motivation is not helping the White Sox reload, okay. I still think Quintana is a damn good pitcher, and would be a great target for the Twins.

    The asking price for pitchers with 3+ years of control left should remain the same whether it's now, or December 2017, no?

    I'm not sure what the right answer is either. Prospects, and specifically their rankings can rise and fall quickly. Personally I'm trading a fast rising prospect, especially if there is a surplus in the organization at the position, before a bad season crashes their ranking. I keep bringing up this example, and I'm sure there are more out there... Would Giolito and Lopez bring back a 4-5 WAR MLB player today? Probably not. The Nationals sold high at the right time.

    I'll take 1 excellent MLB player over 3-5 players who may or may not succeed at the MLB level.

    Why does Quintana have question marks? He's been the definition of durable over the previous 4 seasons - 32 starts, 200+ innings, low 3's ERA and FIP.

    The Rays know what they have with Archer. A front line starter at an absurdly low 4/$30.6 MM contract through 2021. It's going to take a village of prospects to trade him away.

    That may be so. I would guess at the end of the day they'll be very happy to have a 4-5 WAR player at an extremely reasonable 4/$34.4 MM contract rate through 2021 instead of a couple of hopeful starters that become bullpen arms.
