I would definitely stick to my guns on the Duran negotiation. Painter has to be included to part with him. Jax can be moved for a lesser return than Duran.
Remember last year when Correa was playing armchair GM and gave Falvey a list of preferred trade targets at the deadline? And Falvey did nothing? That’s probably when the wind was taken out of Correa’s sails here in Minnesota.
So I went to the St Paul Saints site to check out the pitching stats. The promo on the front page is a Joe Mauer bobble head giveaway on August 9th. Which seems odd because he never played for the Saints.
I’m torn on this. If the Twins trade Correa now, they need to be pretty confident there isn’t a medical procedure or something else they can do to restore Correa’s health.
If this is truly who Correa is moving forward, sub .700 OPS offense with diminishing efficiency in the field, then it may be the only shot we have to get out of the contract.
It’s only gonna get worse when we trade away Bader, Castro, and a pitcher or 2 in the next 2 days. All 3 of those pitchers were in AAA less than a week ago. The season has been over for some time now so whatever. Play the kids and let them get reps.
Preseason football starts on Thursday… Texas at Ohio State on Aug 30. Twins only need to provide some content better than ESPN 8 the Ocho over the next month then I’ll be good
The only sellout at Target Field the entire season was July 11th when the SP matchup was Joe Ryan vs. Paul Skenes. Nelly’s post game concert helped no doubt, but that matchup alone attracts people to spend money to watch it live. Falvey is testing out a world where starting pitching no longer matters, and it’s going to fail spectacularly from a business standpoint.
The only sellout the Twins have had the entire season (thanks to a post game Nelly concert as well) was July 11 when it was Joe Ryan vs. Paul Skenes. The starting pitcher is still a very important component of any team and a HUGE marketing tool for a team. Falvey is building a future where we don’t know who starts, who cares? They’ll be pulled after 3-4 innings anyway.
Then attendance throughout the league will continue to decline. No one wants to pay money to watch openers and bulk pitchers. The stadium fills up when you know Pablo Lopez or Joe Ryan is on the mound and you have a chance to see them throw 7-8 innings on good days.
I’d give Tingler a 2 month trial this season to see if a different voice does anything for these players. Then yes, new manager and new GM hires after the season
Matt Wallner might need the Miguel Sano complete reset and send him to Fort Myers. It’s mind boggling how razor thin the margins are between him being a 1 dotter and utter futility at the plate.
No reason not to at this point. But you know the rules, we have to keep 1 crusty veteran around just to annoy us the entire season. France will be remembered like former greats Jake Cave, Kyle Garlick, Joey Gallo, and Manny Margot
