  1. LOL thanks for the laughs in this thread. If you're not interested in Fernandez just say so. Don't insult others by saying a package not containing Berrios or Kepler is going to work and you are "interested" Just say you're not and move on. Clearly it's going to take either of them + others to get one of the best pitchers in baseball. I'm perfectly fine giving up either one to obtain an ace.
  2. Dude, thank God. Now you know how mind blowing it gets.
  3. I wish Pinto and Achter well in their future. From the Twins perspective, both are not going to be huge losses.
  4. 2 votes for creamy, 2 for crunchy. Can't get any more controversial than that!
  5. Cheese can be polarizing at times... There are countless examples of great cheeses out there, but there are also some that are too funky for my taste buds. I will say there is one cheese that comes to mind that I will never, ever, consider eating..... Cottage Cheese.
  6. Bobby Kielty for Shannon Stewart back in the day?
  7. Creamy is the equivalent to a Honda Accord. Reliable, trustworthy, the kind of PB you'll enjoy any day. But sometimes, you need that THRILL. A change from your routine. Crunchy is the sports car of PB. Can't use it every day, but every so often it hits the spot.
  8. This is the most controversial question I can think of for PB. Crunchy or Creamy?
  9. I'm with you on both Sipp and Lowe. Offer them both 2 year contracts and fill the rest with minor league contracts to see which RP rises to the occasion.
  10. Why are we acting like it's a bad thing that Fernandez would command $200 million on the open market? That would mean he lived up to the hype as an ace on the team, and more than likely be a multiple year all-star, maybe a Cy Young and help the Twins make the playoffs. Even, god forbid, help win a World Series. He's also going to hit the free agent market at age 27. I'm much more comfortable handing out that kind of dough to a pitcher at that age, around 800-900 big league innings under his belt, over a 31-32 year old P.
  11. It could be! But who wants to go to a gym on a weekend? That's prime drinking weather.
  12. Where are you guys at in the season? And your thoughts so far?
  13. Probably a good call on your part. I drive bandwagons pretty fast.... and more than likely a couple of beers down the hatchet.
  14. Highly, highly doubtful the Twins are even in the discussion to sign those guys.
  15. Maybe you haven't put much thought into yet, but is there a framework of a deal that would entice you to pull the trigger on? Berrios or Kepler + Gordon + Jay + someone in the 15-20 org ranks?
  16. Berrios is put on a pedestal here on TD, and I can understand why... considering he's our only chance at a top of the rotation guy for the foreseeable future. However, we can only dream he'd be even close to the caliber of pitcher Fernandez is. If Berrios needs to be included in a trade, there will be no issue from me to oblige and make the deal happen.
  17. I mentioned this in the other thread... Fernandez is a guy I would give up the farm for, no question. The attitude problems mentioned do not bother me one bit. He's on the Marlins, people; AKA the worst run organization in the MLB, arguably all of sports. Once he's not associated with a train wreck franchise, all of those concerns will be alleviated.
  18. Alright, this day is a huge win in my book. Drum roll please........... Today is National Peanut Butter Fudge Day. Good lord that sounds amazing. My mouth is drooling looking at pictures. Today is also National Absurdity Day. Which is nothing new on TD. It's absurd to me that The Front Office and Settling for Mediocrity thread refuses to die. It's like it's grown a mind of its own, and sucks in posters to feed it, continue to grow, and eventually take over the entire site. We're all going to be absorbed by its powers some day.
  19. I don't understand your point on Santana and how that applies to Jose Fernandez. We traded Johan in his age 29 season when he already logged 1,075 innings in the big leagues. Fernandez is 23 years old with 289 big league innings under his belt. How is that the same kind of trade? Also, what would the price have to be in order for you to bite on the deal?
  20. I agree with Seth that signing relievers to 3 year contracts is not something I'd like to do. However, there needs to be some help brought in outside of the organization. Tony Sipp would be a guy I'd like the Twins to target as the LH out of the pen. I'd also like to find a way to acquire Storen like diehard mentioned before. That would give the Twins 3 great options for the 7-8-9 innings, and all 3 have closing experience in case if Perkins falters again. If some of the young guys get hot, then great, they can be rotated into the pen when they're ready. If we're coming into the season relying on Tonkin, Achter, or Darnell to step up, it's going to be another long season of a shaky at best bullpen.
  21. What makes people think Fernandez will be available at the trade deadline? He's available right now. This is the window to acquire him. Take advantage or wonder what could have been when he's dominating on another team.
  22. Yes time to jump on board the Fernandez bandwagon! I'm driving!!
  23. Nah, be proud of what you started! This is my 2nd favorite thread, behind Minnesota Twins Whine Line.
  24. Understandable. If Fernandez plays out his arbitration years and is scheduled to make $300M+ like you suggest, I would imagine he's gone on to be a multiple year all-star, maybe a Cy Young and help the Twins make some deep playoff runs... maybe even, gasp, a world series win! Worst case, the Twins can do the same thing the Marlins are doing and trade him to restock the prospect cupboard. As far as your other concern of acquiring someone with arm injuries in the past, man, you're eliminating 25% of current MLB pitchers, and 15% of minor league pitchers alone who have had TJ surgery. I'm not as worried as you about a 23 year old struggling to recover from that surgery. If anything I'm glad he got it at a young age and the odds of him having to get another one in the future is pretty low. In fact, 2-4% of pitchers need a 2nd surgery according to the link below. http://m.mlb.com/pitchsmart/tommy-john-faq/
  25. First snowfall of the year? How much has fallen so far? In order to prevent rubbing it in, I'll leave it up to you if you want to google the temperature in Austin.
