    If the guy can't slug, and his offensive skill set is getting on base, why drop him in the order? Shouldn't your high OBP/low slugging guys be in the one and two spot to set up the sluggers? Should we shove our speedy guys who can't get on base in the top spots instead and let the guy who makes the least amount of outs get a significant amount of PAs less than them?

    Below is the quote I was responding to. I was apparently missing the point, so I guess my bad. 'Heres the funny thing.. slightly better.. Polanco made it to the MLB at 21, Dozier wasn't even drafted until he was just over 22 years old.' Anyway, my post number on this one thing is extremely disproportionate to the amount I care about it. :-)

    It was about the age thing when drafted part having some sort of meaning...that's it. If you feel like it didn't make sense, that's fine. Doesn't matter.

    With some of the quotes from Ryan, it seemed he would use the info given by Goin if it matched with his thought process and if not he discarded it (at least in player acquisition transaction). It may not have been really the case, but if it was, no point in even having an analytic department if used like that.

    I'm fine with trading him too. he might even be retired when it's time to compete gain. It would be the right move.

    Yeah, I'm saying if a person is just looking at how old a player is when drafted to base any idea about how good someone is, they're missing the boat. Nothing 'funny' about it when you realize one went to college and one didn't. But yeah, as far as comparing numbers, it was like people comparing Buxton's numbers in his first stint in the majors to Trout when Trout had his first stint in the majors. Trout was two years younger during his first stint. And yeah, I was 18 once. Looking up stock numbers on microfiche with only two stripes on my arm, not having a cell phone, loving my Atari 2600, being in love for the first time (and no, I don't mean my Atari 2600 :-)).

    Has Antony ever even been mentioned in an article about interesting GM candidates, or assistant GMs teams covet, or anything like that? I, personally, have never seen him in any article saying this is a guy teams should be targeting for open GM spots.

    Well, yeah, Dozier didn't get drafted till he was 22. He went to college, like Kris Bryant (also drafted at age 22). You think Polanco is better than Bryant too, based on how old he was when he was drafted?

    His OBP, OPS and wRC+ on the TEAM is average? As far as RBI goes (a team dependent stat) he does pretty well with RISP. Not as well as his career numbers are for sure, but certainly not horrific. Might there be other reasons why he may not have as many RBI as some would suggest he should have. He still provides value to this team. Not as much as we would hope for sure. I am also disappointed in his overall offensive performance and admit I was fooled by his good start (because of his history, not because of SSS alone), but this whole roster is a disappointment and hes certainly not high on the long list of issues, IMO.

    Yeah, LaRussa had a impressive list of candidates...and he chose Dave Stewart. Let's hope our team doesn't repeat that horrific blunder. :-)

    Yeah, a lot of the quality talent we have, that we're excited about, was either brought in during Smith's time or due to having high drafts picks from losing so much. All teams draft, that's not unique to this organization. And, really, most of the guys from this supposedly great farm system that have actually seen time in the majors are looking/have looked severely over-matched. How much talent that we are excited about is due to Ryan trading off talent to get prospects? Meyer? (yeah, not so good), May? Nice pickup then decided to use him completely incorrectly. We have failed to trade players for prospects though. We have brought in bad FAs and extended players we should have never extended. We signed a player that supposedly made it necessary to make one of the dumbest decisions, moving Sano to the OF. Could not have been easier to make the call that would be horrible, and it was. And that player acquired that made that ridiculous decision necessary had to go to the minors because, well, he's over-matched. In any event, in this ode to Ryan's (and the Twins organizational) greatness, there's a lot of, um, questionable assumption that seem premature A: a bunch of these guys are going to stick B: that they'll be difference makers C: we're going to emerge contenders because of them (and by extension Ryan) It is, however, good to read how the fans critical of Ryan and hte management part of this organization are so very wrong, wrong, wrong :-) Like Dan S (the guy who does ZiPS) said yesterday, this move was overdue.

    These announcers crack me up. Making every excuse in the book to explain how Sano can't play defense, anywhere. Then they say he can be a GREAT third baseman. Lord have mercy.

    So Nunez decided why bother going all out to 1B? In contrast, Mauer really hustled and almost beat it out.

    He needs to finish the season in the Twins rotation. Zero reason to do other-wise.

    Unfortunately, Escobar is neither good enough with the glove or the bat. With Polanco more of a 2B, that makes the decision about Nunez more difficult than it really should be.
