  1. yeah, 82 games is a little light
  2. exactly. Equating a guy with so little proven professional time to Kimbrel is a big stretch.
  3. I don't think any team has to sign five Jon Lesters. That's a huge exaggeration. Starlin Castro, Baez and others might be able to use down the line to get what they need. I think their front office has the team going in the right direction without a doubt and they'll get the pitching they need. Having that strong a line of position players puts them in great position for a long time if even only half turn out to be quality big leaguers. And I highly doubt the Cubs would even want to trade Bryant for Walker or Cole. I wouldn't.
  4. I have no idea, might be a question to ask him. Kiley does a weekly chat at Fangraphs. And I have no issues with the Cubs being the clear #1.
  5. Kiley sees Meyer as that which is why he's ranked where he is.
  6. It's important to note Dave's rankings are based on a certain way of looking at it. Kiley will release his overall Farm System rankings soon.
  7. Thorpe was in there too. Eight Twins in total.
  8. Thorpe was there. We have eight guys on a top 200 list and 6 that score 55 or higher (the most of any team).
  9. Yeah, I agree. He was 19 and pitching in A ball. Almost 3 years younger than the average age of players there. If things keep going smoothly, we should see him mid-late 2017. That's pretty quick and something I'd like to see from such a high draft pick.
  10. As a staff, I don't think we've embraced this part of pitching in a long time. Santana would do it, but I think the team's strict throw strikes at all costs policy makes opposing batters too comfy at the plate. The opposing batters know that most of the time, even in pitcher's counts, they'll get a hitter's pitch.
  11. I'd want Mauer's number retired, I think he easily deserves it. I'd want Morneau's as well. I think Mauer will and maybe Morneau. I think the Yankees probably retire too many numbers, but they've had a lot of stars there too. They will run out of numbers with less than 3 digits at some point :-)
  12. Not being argumentative, but what starts are you referring to when you call them Koufax kind of starts? Seems like an unusual type of reference for many reasons not the least of which is the fact he doesn't strike people out and didn't have one complete game. Of those 12 games you mentioned, something like half of them he didn't even go 7 innings. Koufax and Gibson have like two things in common. They both started in the major leagues and they both have 6 letters in their last name :-) Having said all that, I'm not opposed to him getting a spot at all. His FIP says he deserves better than what he got.
  13. IMO, there really should be a battle for the 3-5 spot. I know that's not realistic, but it'd be nice.
  14. I imagine a 2018 rotation of Hughes, Berrios, Gibson, Stewart, May.
  15. let's throw May in there are well, just for giggles. Maybe Gibson will get it all figured out too.
  16. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-fangraphs-top-200-prospect-list/#comment-4953979 Fangraphs shiny new top 200 prospects. Berrios as the #24 prospect in baseball (Twins #3 prospect). Alex Meyer is #71, Gordon is #72, Stewart is #73. 6 in the top 73. Polanco at #108.
  17. Fangraphs released it's top 200 prospect list this week. Berrios as the #24 prospect in baseball (Twins #3 prospect). Alex Meyer is #71, Gordon is #72, Stewart is #73. 6 in the top 73. Polanco at #108.
  18. I look forward to seeing him in the Twins rotation mid-late 2017.
  19. He owned up to it only after he was caught and he only admitted to doing it the time for which he was caught. Then he changed his statement regarding Clemens.
  20. I heard it was Mariners prospect Victor Sanchez from Venezuala
  21. Not everyone who liked the KC part of the Shields/Myers trade only liked it in hindsight. I thought it was the right move at the right time. I loved the trade right from the beginning, and I know many that did as well. I know some people on here liked the trade at least as early as his first year in KC, because way before I posted here, I'd look in every once in awhile and there were quite a few people who argued for the trade during Shields first year in KC. I felt Moore got way too skewered for it and I was glad for him and the organization that they were challenging for playoffs in 2013 and made it last year.
  22. Perkins is one of few quality trade chips we have and having a quality closer right now is a luxury we don't need. By the time we need a quality closer again (when we are truly competitive), we should have replacements for him. If we can get a quality prospect or two for him, we should do it. The fact that he IS getting paid such a good salary is an advantage for us in trade negotiations (as opposed to Papelbon, for example) and should make him worth more.
  23. I'd like to think it'd be Rosario.
  24. exactly. contenders are always looking for better pitching down the stretch and the best offer Beane apparently got was Fuld from a non-contender.
  25. There's nothing wrong with my character, thank you very much. As far as Milone goes, Baseball is a business. Teams have options. They are within their rights to use all of those options and players need to accept that. What should Beane have done, not go out and get players clearly better so as not to upset Milone? They had better pitchers for the rotation than him so they optioned him down. Then he COMPLAINED and demanded/requested (depending on what stories you want to believe, I'm guessing you want to believe the requested side) a trade instead of accepting the business side and that he wasn't one of their best five starters. Beane had five SPs better than Milone and didn't think it would be good for Milone to go to the bullpen, so there is only one choice. Milone could have looked forward and seen that starting pitchers would be leaving town this offseason and he'd likely be back in the rotation this year, but instead he did what he did. Now he's dealing with the same situation on a team with nowhere near the same talent in the rotation as the As had in their rotation when he got demoted.
