    Oh, I'm not tempted at all to put 1000 on the Twins going over. Just used them as the example for my question. I AM betting the Indians will beat their line though.

    Beane said he made those trades because he saw the weakness and that the team would be going downhill in the 2nd half and he brought in players to ensure he didn't get out of the playoff picture. I wonder how bad it would have been if he hadn't done what he did. Cespedes is a pretty overrated player. He doesn't get on base and regardless of that one beautiful throw we all know, he's a below average defender. He's not a difference maker, IMO.

    the guy was a complainer there who needed the As defense and huge foul territory to be 'effective'. They didn't need him and they got something for him.

    So far, ZIPs has us as 27th, Schoenfield has us at 27th, and Vegas odds has our over under line at the 29th lowest. Any that I'm missing?

    the problem is the 'could' part, though. Vegas isn't going to set their odds on whether or not any of the bolded players get significant time or not or whether they will even be good right out the gate. Also, one regression to the negative candidate that fails to get mentioned is Escobar. Whether his value goes lower due to performance or playing time.

    Along the same lines, Dave Cameron just did the 10 worst transactions this winter and had us signing Ervin Santana as the 8th worst transaction 'For what Santana is, the price is mostly okay. This is what durable league average starters are going for these days, and that’s clearly the mold that Santana belongs to. However, this is just the wrong team to be handing out a four year deal to an aging pitcher, especially with draft pick compensation attached. The Twins are going to be lousy again in 2015, and probably won’t be contenders for several more years, by which time Santana probably will be a drag on the payroll. Yes, bad teams need veteran placeholders, but better for them to bet on upside than pay for stability. Signing Phil Hughes last winter was a great example of what the Twins should be doing. This is just a run-in-place maneuver with minimal potential, however, and enough downside that the Twins will probably end up regretting this move.'

    I would have taken Aoki and Rasmus for sure over Hunter. Easily. I wouldn't have signed Hunter for 10M, period.

    Half our population agrees with suppressing the rights of a whole class of people and that should somehow make it okay? Look, this stemmed from people thinking Hunter was unprofessional in his press conference. Then someone said it was the reporter who was unprofessional. I disagreed. I said that the reporter asked Hunter if his views, and especially his commercial endorsing a Governor running on the fact he would bad gay marriage, affected his free agency market. Since PR considerations are a real thing in a job dependent on the public, it's a valid question and it's a legitimate baseball question considering he just signed a free agent contract. For example, I doubt the Giants go after him after that, or the Mariners and such. So it affects the possible teams he could go to, which affects his FA market. And no, people are entitled to their opinion. But people are also entitled to any backlash they get from publically pushing those views out there. I never once said the team should not hire people because of their personal beliefs. Thing is, when players do what Hunter did, SOME teams may factor those things in when deciding whether or not to sign him. Especially when that player is no longer a start but a old declining player. And, hey, it's not like that was the only time he acted in a not so good way in that press conference. He was asked about his declining defense too and he got all rude and said anyone who believes in metrics has never played the game. I imagine Perkins loved that comment, amongst MANY other players.

    'Revised Zone Rating (RZR) measures, “the proportion of balls hit into a fielder’s zone that he successfully converted into an out. RZR measures a player’s range, taking three things into account: the amount of Balls In Zone (BIZ) a player receives, a player’s total Plays Made, and a player’s total amount of Out Of Zone Plays Made (OOZ). It is, essentially, a simplified version of UZR. So it measures the range as opposed to the stat that is called range factor. Range factor is calculated by dividing putouts and assists by the number of innings or games played at a given defense position. For me, it seems there's a difference between speed and quickness.

    Actually, I didn't just say HE does that at all. Where did I say that? I said the idea that people think our players don't care because they don't throw tantrums or act unprofessional doesn't mean they don't care. This was in response to people saying our recent players don't care about losing and me wondering how they got that impression. Wondering what they need to see the players do to think the players DO care. He wasn't even a part of those teams. I've said earlier that he's had fights in the dugout, which he has. I've pointed out earlier that the players shouldn't follow his example of how to do press conference (which as unprofessional), but those are actual instances we know happened and are not, at all, speculation.

    A lot of what's been said about Hunter in this thread we've seen him do and/or heard heard him say. Speculating that the players don't care, where's the actual proof of that? Are they saying they don't care? These guys got to the top of a very hard profession to get to the top of, are the very cream of the crop, and if they were so lackadaisical about losing and/or not getting better, and if they lacked competitiveness, I doubt they ever reach the majors

    I don't think the players on our team have the 'I don't care about losing' attitude. Just cause they don't throw tantrums, fight each other in the dugout , and act all unprofessional because they lose doesn't mean they don't care. They also get that it's their jobs, it's a long season, some teams are better than others and so on. I think it's unfair to label them as uncaring about losing.

    Whenever I watch Hardy seems he has great range and an accurate arm. In the year he played for us, RZR (range) listed him 2nd.

    and in that same vein, he also said that if there were homosexuals in the clubhouse he'd be uncomfortable and it would be uncomfortable. I wonder if there are any homosexuals in our clubhouse and how they feel about those comments along with his comments that endorse suppressing their rights. And as far as the press conference went, yeah, the young guys got an example of how NOT to do a press conference. So, that's a sort of mentoring.

    No, the Rays don't have Myers and he's not exactly tearing things up. And there were more players involved including, arguably, the best reliever last year in Davis. Oh, I'd definitely still prefer to have Ramos too, since I didn't like the Capps trade either. I also didn't like it when we got Suzuki nor am I happy we've kept him. I think he's a huge negative for our team, myself. I'm just saying Ramos hasn't turned into a stud or anything. Some act as if he was a guaranteed superstar or has turned into one.

    I loved that trade for the Royals when they made it AND nothing has changed my mind about it. Having said that, I seriously doubt Ryan would have made it or will will trade Gordon if he's thought of as a top prospect.
