  1. I keep reading that and I have no idea what that means.
  2. But then Mauer really messed up on the next ball in play.
  3. Cain has a habit of catching those. Mauer's concern was warranted. Cain didn't catch it but if he had, he would have been doubled up and everyone would be screaming at Mauer.
  4. going into today, Mauer was 20th out of 29 1Bs in pitches per plate appearance. He's been plenty aggressive and he's been making a strong effort to pulling the ball way more. So he's addressed two major fan concerns. and he's having a horrible April.
  5. yeah, that came from the lightning round of the chat. I love that part of the chat. I liked his answer too. I've loved Natalie Dormer since 'Tudors'. I was surprised with his answer about the Ninja Turtles though. I would have guessed he'd say Donatello. I will invite him next time I chat with him.
  6. Plouffe's defense got noticeably better last year as did his offense. I'm not sure it's even better this year. He won't be an all star. There are quite a few better than him in the AL. That doesn't take away from Plouffe's hard work paying off though.
  7. I'm having a pretty good day too, if anyone is interested ;-)
  8. In today's Fangraphs Chat, Dan Symborski (creator of ZiPS) was on his game. There were a few questions about our Danny Santana. Not sure how many will like the answers, but they seem pretty spot on. There's also a great gif. Here's a random question and answer: 'which baseball skill do you think is most underrated?' Dan Szymborski: 'Keeping your dumb mouth shut.' http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/dan-szymborski-fangraphs-chat-42115/
  9. Well, if he's copying you, it's time for you to start hitting .320/.410/480 :-)
  10. In fairness, I'm pretty sure he often dogged it in RF last year too. Either way, he's just a bad defender.
  11. Having spent quite a bit of time in Central and South America, and being mostly fluent in Spanish, I mispronounced his name for quite some time too so I can't really fault the other teams' announcers for messing it up. I've known people with the same last name that pronounce it the other way. I thought our announcers were getting it wrong because they do mispronounce a lot of names.
  12. Fangraphs has updated. There have been 23 LF that have played 70 or more innings in LF. Arcia is 21st out of 23 in DRS with -3 runs. One of the two guys at -4 has played 30 more innings out there. In RF, out of the 25 that have played 70 or more innings, only Trumbo has been worse than Hunter.
  13. The World Series isn't coming this year whether we have Vargas and Arcia in this year or Robinson and Schaefer. The latter pair are journeymen and the former pair may never pan out and are seemingly not ready.
  14. This was already addressed after he wrote it and I already pointed out the DRS rankings at Fangraphs which is really the only thing you can use this early in a season. That shows Arcia and Hunter have been as bad as our eyes have shown us. see them. It's about knowing the proper application. dWAR can't be used this early. Every LF and RF is at -.05 or .06 dWAR. That should make it obvious it's not to be used yet. Look at DRS this early.
  15. According to Fangraphs Arcia is at 19 out of 20 in DRS and out of the 24 qualifying RF, only Trumbo is worse than Hunter in DRS.. But none of that matters at this point nor does it change what we already knew going into the season. That they are really bad defenders.
  16. We just have way different ideas of what is great for a catcher that's all. Posey, Lucroy, Mesoraco, Martin, Gomez. They had great seasons for catchers last year. Mauer when he was catching had great seasons. Just a difference of opinion is all.
  17. The If they didn't get whatever a fair offer would be for Suzuki, they could have just let him go as a FA. They didn't have to re-sign him. I imagine they didn't get much of an offer for him, if at all, because his offensive season wasn't likely to be repeated and his defense is just bad. I don''t know whether we can say that Suzuki had a 'great offensive season' last year. It was pretty good most of the year and fell off a cliff the last two months. It was great for him, that's for sure.
  18. Or a military base for those people with those kind of privileges.
  19. For his career, Mauer's worst month is April, but this is ridiculous. I am certainly glad they decided to mess with his approach.
  20. No doubt Ace Johan Santana had two Cy Young seasons where he had 2 CG in 68 starts. Ironically, in the season where he was robbed (the season Colon won), he had 3 CG. Unfortunately, nowadays, pitchers aren't allowed to complete games that they certainly could. Bert probably has more to say on the subject :-)
