1. Could be. To be honest I have no idea how someone organizes a business with 7 offices over 6 cities where everyone wants to be transfered to one city but not to the other. Where you need to fire 40 guys a year only to replace them with 40 more right away. Where you need to make arraignments in cities like Cedar Rapids for people to stay in other peoples homes. Or how to deal with top performing employees who start showing promise. How long do you wait? How does demoting someone play with their brain? I'm glad it's not my job. if I worked somewhere like this, I'd just like to know that the company had a plan, what that plan was, and what I can do to make sure I'm part of their plans. I think Walker is doing his job telling the Twins to make him a part of their plans. And the Twins are paying attention.
2. Murphy isn't really a prospect. He was already in Florida (no airfare, no logging concerns) and it's only for a short time, not a full time placement. The Twins like Walker, once they promote him they're not sending him back. They want it to feel like a job promotion, not filling in for someone while their gone, that you hire a temp for.
3. Yeah I'm going down for a day trip over Memorial day weekend for one of the 2pm games. Not sure which day Berrios would be pitching....
4. Cedar Rapids putting up video game numbers vs Beloit. Walker and Buxton on fire!
5. Or cut a deal and sign Ryan Boldt with their 2nd pick above slot.
6. I doubt He'd be there but I'd love for Jan Hernandez SS/3B to be there with our 3rd pick.
7.

Logan Shore is a RHP out of Coon Rapids. Law is high on him , he's said to throw in the low 90's already. D.J. Snelton is a another LHP JR at the U of M. had okay stuff but some later reports have him hitting the mid 90's.

8. The one on Tim Hudson is interesting. A lot of positives about make-up but nothing that says future Ace.
9. It was mentioned today on the "Which Aces Did the Twins Miss" comments section, that it might be interesting to see scouting reports of teams who passed on players. Also today, John Sickels shared this link to an old Chuck Knoblauch scouting report. Sickels' was mentioning how great it was that the new scouting hall of fame had thosands of scouting reports free to view online. So I looked up a minor league report about Joe Mauer back when he was in A ball. I figured since we only have 23 different threads devoted to the 2013 Draft, that it might interest some of you on how the process works.
10. Dead hookers are your solution for everything!
11. Exactly. Besides injuries, if people do expect them to promote Rosario and Sano they will need to infields to take their places in Fort Myers.
12. Yep I'm sure they like Meadows over Frazier for the same reason. I'm guessing McGuire goes 9. Pittsburgh needs a pick they can sign there otherwise they lose the pick.
13. Wow. Exactly. If the Twins like Manaea but don't think he's worth full slot, they may pass. Suddenly that odd prediction about Manaea going 3 or 5, but not 4 makes sense (the logic not it's accuracy) If Bryant goes 3... Manaea goes five... Meadows could free fall!
14. Thanks Jeremy. The light bulb just turned on in my head. Keith Law had a comment in a chat recently that didn't make sense to me until now. He said people think the Astros are going to cut a deal with Gray. But why cut a deal with a guy who's convence he's going #2 overall? You'd only save (at most) the midpoint difference between pick 1 and 2. Why not hand out 3rd or 4th pick money to a guy who thinks he's going to drop to 6th (like Correa)? Because all the other guys are represented by the same guy and he's not going to cut you a deal for one of his other players because in the end he'd lose commission dollars. The only other guy the Astros are looking at is Frazier and that may be too big of a reach, rumors are he could fall to 9. So now I'm convence Astros get Gray and Cubs go Appel. If the Twins and Rockies don't want to pay slot or higher... they may have to reach.
15. He could simply be talking to different Twins scouts than you are. I'm guessing the Twins scouting staff haven't all sat down yet and compared notes. That being said, I think he's off on McGuire. Somebody simply might have said they liked him better than Denny (McGuire does have a better arm and is strong on defense in general) and he took it as the Twins would consider drafting him at 4. Like it's been mentioned above, if a team is taking a guy like Bryant they are taking him for his bat, the same should hold true for Denny IF someone thinks he's the best prep bat (but I don't think that's the Twins).
16. The smoke coming out of Chicago is the Cub's are taking either Gray or Appel. No word yet about the Rockies plans. Best case scenario is Manaea and another top 6 pick comes to under slot agreements with the Rockies and the Astros. But I don't think that's in Colorado's draft plan.
17. I also heard it was hard for him to hear the bat connected with the ball while playing 3rd, which might not be huge thing, but it could make fielding his position more difficult.
18. Jim Callis is doing a minor league/ draft chat right now and answered a question I had about what the Rockies might do: Max (Minneapolis): Any idea what Rockies will do with the #3 overall pick in the draft? Jim Callis: I feel very confident saying that Stanford RHP Mark Appel and Oklahoma RHP Jonathan Gray will go 1-2 or 2-1 to the Astros and Cubs. Less confident guessing (and at this points, it's guessing) what the Rockies will do at 3. I had a scouting director tell me yesterday that he thinks one of both of the top HS bats (Clint Frazier, Austin Meadows) might drop to No. 10 or lower. The best college bats (Kris Bryant, Colin Moran) play 3B, not a position of great need for the Rockies (not that you draft for need at No. 3). I'm not sure I like any of the arms at No. 3. So just guessing here, I'll say Bryant, who may wind up in the outfield anyway. BaseballAmerica.com: Chat Draft
19. Appel could also be in the mix for top 10 after the draft. Both Appel and Gray would need to sign, play a little pro ball and show good numbers though. If going by the Baseball America list, after graduations, I could see Sano and Buxton jumping Bogaerts, Cole, and Bundy. Leaving only Taveras ahead and Correa behind. So top five is very possible and even top 1-2.
20. Im leaning towards promoting JaDamion M. Williams. He's also a CF, His Avg. is low, but his walk to SO ratio is good, fair number of SB, and it's his second time in the league. I say give him a 2 month trail in high A, if it doesn't work promote Buxton if he's still dominating.
21. Just because a player goes to a specific team's academy doesn't mean he has to sign with that team. That player can do work outs at other academies and still can have their agents reach out to other teams. The Twins had this guy named Miguel Cabrera, who went to their Venezuelan academy. It was one of the closest academies located near where Miguel was from. In the end the Twins got outbid. The Twins had bid high and the Marlins had bid higher. No system will ever be completely fair. It will either favor the teams who have the best scouts or the most cash to spend. The top money guys are the ones everyone has heard of, but you do need a strong presence in a region to find the diamonds in the rough.
22. That's a good question. I'm guessing Law has been talking to scouts that have different Favorites. In his last Podcast, he talked about people in the industry seeing the talent gel together from 20-60. Which means every teams top 100 list could look very different. Which might be good news for the Twins, who could get a a guy they liked in the 1st round in the 2nd. Bad news for Windle who could drop in a college pitcher heavy draft.
23. John Sickels, usually does the Twins prospect list and write up first. So the C grade might be based of info from November. That being said, C or C+ grades given to Double A or Triple A is still high praise, because it means there is a good chance the player will contribute at the Major League level. Not that it matters much, but with Mauer and Herrmann being lefties, Doumit being stronger from the left side and Butera bat being made out of vapor a right handed catcher on the 40 man has a good shot at being able to crack at the big league roster, this year or next. Pinto could make the team as a 2nd or 3rd catcher/ sometime DH/ pinch hitter/ Spanish interpreter. That's a potentially long MLB career.
24. Well at least that stop us from chasing our tails over the Best Player Available vs Best Pitcher Available debate for a half a day. So if by Draft day the top 3 consensus players are Gray, Appel, and Denney. Followed by a second tier of hitters like Meadows, Bryant, and Frazier. Followed by a 3rd tier of pitchers led by Manaea; If Denney is the highest rated player on the board, do you take him knowing the reward is high, but like Myers, his bat will play anywhere if C doesn't work out or do you essentially trade down, by offering a below slot deal to someone else and hoping there is exceptional value in the later rounds that you can buy away?
