  1. This. Willngham isn't completely wasted money. If I were to guess, Terry was asked to eat a lot of Willingham's contact. So the question becomes, what pitching prospect is worth let say 4.5 million dollars? The name Terry and his scouts came up with was Eduardo Rodriguez.
  2. I'd like to see Buxton in the AFL, but I know it's more important for Wimmer to get the innings. Otherwise a Buxton 2015 debut seems very possible.
  3. Melotakis was sitting at 90-91. But they way he handle the 3 Snapper hitters you'd think he was throw 98-99 MPH. The Twins are starting to collect a few good LHP's in the lower minors, by far the weak spot in the org. Atherton was awesome. I went to see Max Kepler, but Atherton was having a great game.
  4. I'm going with you can make a case, but won't end up that way in the rankings this winter. A lot of prospect list tend to favor multiple tools so that will always be the tie breaker. Also if we're going with Baseball America they have loved Buxton from the start, their ranking of him in the top ten last year was seen as agressive now it seems like they just really did a good job scouting him. I'm guessing they'll double down on Buxton and rank him #1.
  5. id like to see him and Dougie M. Take over the corner coach positions over the next couple of years, give us some better internal options than our current 1st base coach, I mean bench coach, I mean 3rd Base Coach, I mean Hitting Coach, wait no... 1st base.
  6. Lack of a track record, lack of reports. It easier for fans to keep track/ follow guys if they were aquired in big trades, were high bonus babies, or are on the cusp of the Majors. Beating up on guys in Appy doesnt get you a lot of love, Arica did it and most fans still didnt notice. If they were high draft picks they would be getting more attention then Gonslaves or most of the pitchers The Twins have in Low A right now.
  7. My guess is he spends the year in the GCL. Barrios was much more polished this time last year than Stewart is now. Though Kohl has a higher ceiling, I think he starts off slower and speeds up around high A.
  8. I think he faced 4 batters. He's ready!
  9. I think this is the most constructive comment you've made on this thread. One of the ways to future reach out to our Latin prospects (which seem to make up 50% of our top minor leaguers now) would be to hire more mangers and coaches at the minor and major league level. Having a David Ortiz type as your 1st base or bench coach on the Twins would help with a cultural and language wall. unfortunately they don't have that right now and Sano needs to learn that isn't always going to be available for him. That why he's working hard to learn English. The cultural challenges of playing Baseball in the USA I'm sure will be the focus on the next movie made about him.
  10. Jesse Sanchez is reporting Cubs broke the bank on Jen ho Tseng Cubs Sign Jen-Ho Tseng; Jimenez Likely To Sign Next Week: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com After the Jimenez signing it looks like they said to hell with next year's crop and tried to out spend everyone. They can't sign anyone next year for over 250,000. not a bad strategy, they most likely will be trading cap space next year getting some marginal guys that way too.
  11. Oh and this is a minor point, but what if the ball hadn't gone out but just hit the wall? Longest single ever. On a hit like that Sano needs to be standing on second base.
  12. For me, number one, this is a safety concern. I find the "Twins being too old school" comments funny. I'm not worried about the Twins being old school, I'm worry about every other team being old school and trying to throw one at his head, potentially ending his career before it started. Sano doing this pissed off other teams last year in low A. I remember it lead to a shouting match and people getting tossed. This year in high A he got a ball thrown at his head after doing the same thing. Even after that he's doing it in AA? People want him to go out the next game and face that team again? He's just a kid, he has a lot of fire, and thats a good thing, but this is a lesson that wasn't sinking in. Sitting two days doesnt take that fire away or ruin relationships with the team. It let Sano know the Org. takes his and his teammates health seriously. Hanson could use some at bats anyway.
  13. Zero is a very low number. Here's a couple. Injuries and demotions. When they happen it leaves a system short handed, and they tend to promote guys that aren't ready. If you release someone you can't get them back. if Vargas got promoted but but didn't look ready for AA and send him back down again, they may not have anyone ready to take his place. If the Rock Cats find themselfs in playoff run that might seem short sighted. Vargas has Never completed a full season of ball, no one can say what happens when he gets into a second half of play in a league. Like Jeremy said, it been a number of years since he hasn't had Sano protecting him or Vice versa. Im a big Vargas fan. I hope he's our 1st baseman of the future. I like his bat a lot, his foot work at first base is good, and its rare to see so much power from both sides of the plate. I want Sano to stay at 3rd so Vargas doesn't get blocked in the future. I also think he should get added to the 40 man if he eligible to get rule Five'd; Not a view held by a lot of people smarter than I. Rodriguez isn't going to help our Big league club ever, but he has value for the system and throwing him away before you need to isn't good system management.
  14. There are two other players that affect Vargas promotion besides himself. MIke Joseph Gonzales and Reynaldo A. Rodriguez. When Gonzales is off the DL there won't be room from him, Vargas, and Hicks at 1B/DH. Rodriguez isn't doing to bad in NB so releasing him isn't an ideal scenario either. Twins are probably giving it time to sort itself out, before having to release someone they can't get back.
  15. okay. Make sure your write sarcasm or JK next time, otherwise it might come off as trolling. If there is one thing Ryan is good at it is building a farm system. With the core pieces in place at 3rd, 2nd, C, all 3 outfield spots, Ryan only needs to collect supporting pieces to fill the other roles, and the Twins do have lots of other prospects at other spots already. Look for Ryan to target pitching in trades and go BPA again in the draft.
  16. Thanks Jeremy for taking the time to do this. It always nice to connect a name, face, and personality with a prospect.
  17. Yep, it's really annoying to say the least. If there is an international draft next year, both teams will loss their 1st and 2nd round picks. I can't tell if the motivation is like you said, that next year is a down talent year, or if teams are banking that the rules will change in two years, so their taking advantage of it now, or if its a strategy for Texas, know they wont be losing anytime soon so spend big one year and get top ranked guys and then not another is better than getting midrank guys every year. Short of a international draft the only way to stops teams like this having them lose rule 4 picks as well. otherwise it turns in to an arms/ dollar race the Twins won't win in the end.
  18. Levi was pushed hard to start his career skiping all the rookie leagues and low A and heading straight to High A for his 1st year of pro ball (he signed late and didn't play his signing year). He didn't dominate with the bat and his value as a SS was put into question when he didn't look like a plus plus defended there. Michael's is only in his second year, but when one didn't have a high celling to start, there is more pressure on that type of player to be more advance or to move faster in the system, which is where a lot of the lack of enthusiasm comes from. If Michael's can show he's a MLB starting Shortstop, there a place for him in this system for sure. I think he makes and stay in the show as a Utility Infielder though, one with some pop in his bat who can play any position, but not well enough to warrant starting for more than a week or two at a time.
  19. Howard Norsetter is still getting people signed I see. Would love to get quick scouting report on Verkerk. As long as he turns out better than Dirk Vadjer did for the Twins. Jesse Sanchez confirm the Twins are still interested in Jen-Ho Tseng. No word yet on who the other signing were.
  20. Both Michaels and Wimmer we're suppost to be low ceiling high floor picks, who's floors turned out to be much lower than expected. Some guys take a while to click though, both Plouffe and Span didn't click till they repeated AAA. They were low on a lot of people lists until fully developed.
  21. On one hand, Let's see what it looks like in Year Two and if the penalties for the Rangers is sever enough to discourage other teams from doing it again. The Rays went over their budget last year and it's stop them from making big moves this year. On the other hand, this isn't exactly what MLB wants. They want an international draft. And if everyone played by the rules, there would be no reason to change them. So in the end, it takes a rule break to change the rules. The good news for the fans? This could become a step towards trading draft picks like in other sports. Trading pool allotments because trading international draft picks, becomes trading Rule 4 draft picks. That would be a lot more interesting!
  22. I think owners and GM's like Terry Ryan like it too. It helps set cost certainty when planning out your budget. The amounts are set and they can plan knowing that a team like the yankees won't just come in and drop a lot of money cornering the market.
  23. Thanks Jeremy! Even if the Twins aren't signing people it nice to see who has money left to do what. Looks like Rangers are going for broke... literarily. I don't see a way they get out of handy capping themselves for next year signing period at least. It will probably be their actions that pushes the MLB towards a International draft sooner than later.
