  1. Which pitcher and position player do you think will break out and play better than expected this year? Of course this depends on what your expectations are.
  2. DeRosa would be a great pick -up, which is not to say that DeRosa is great.
  3. Soooo where goes Hollimon, released?
  4. AL E: Rox C: Tigers W: Angels WC: Rangers, Yankees NL E: Phillies C: Reds W: Giants WC: Marlins, Cardinals ALCS: Angels >Rox NLCS: Phillies > Reds WS: Phillies > Angels
  5. I believe Perkins may convert more save opportunities than Joe Nathan this year.
  6. Q. for anyone: Assusming Gibson starts at Ft. Meyers, how far (or does he) move up this year? I'm guessing half at A+ then half at NB.
  7. -Morneau hits for the cycle -Span hits.325 and is an All-star -Perkins converts more saves than Joe Nathan
  8. Fight the good fight.
  9. Is it just me or does everyone see that all the blogs are gibberish now, like they've been coded or transcribed by some bug or to computer html behind the scences language i.e. ajskg thwnt thoad thllaksthw
  10. Boy, do I wish it were the Yankees, finishing fourth in the east. Realistically, I say the Indians and the Rays will fall significantly.
  11. jorgenswest, these numbers above are OPS I hope (assume) or what?
  12. Is the second Towles on the bench supposed to be Mike Hollimon? If not, where is Hollimon at this year?
  13. 1st ballot, no doubt.
  14. There's no one else left to take that spot, save Fien and he won't. Gray is in.
  15. Pitching wins games. Pitching wins pennant races. Pitching wins championships. A true baseball fan enjoys a 2-1 game. Pitching, pitching, pitching. If these guys don't succeed, it one heck of a long season. Fingers crossed for good health and a team SP ERA below 4.00
  16. I believe J-dog is correct. I remember reading that somewhere today as well.
  17. Liriano was sufficient, not efficient today.
  18. I'm a Twins fan in Pittsburgh, PA so -- When the Strib was "free" (not the 15 articles a month then needing a paid subscription) and clean (before the horrible ad layout, especially the rollover ads), I'd go there to get the majority of my Twins news (along with mlb.com). I always enjoyed the Twinscentric articles/blogs published/linked on the Strib. With the combination of TWINS DAILY's existence, the annoying Strib issues mentioned above, and the quality of writing and information from all available Twins sites, I'm not at all surprised with the popularity of this site and the jealousy of the Strib. But you make the bed you sleep in. For the last couple weeks I've been hoping that the Twins Daily would get economic independence and sustainability --enough anyway-- to get a "beat" writer for this site with access to the club and following at least some games. Looks like this won't be happening because they won't be granted access though, which is really too bad. I think the Club execs would be surprised to find that open and more transparent coverage of their team would create more buzz and excitement -- increased dollars. Until then, I hope the Strib doesn't become any more of a propaganda tool for the Twins, and I don't use that world lightly.
  19. With the bullpen coming in to focus, and pitching roles taking shape, one major role remains unsettled -- the right-handed setup pitcher. This role was Zumaya's to lose coming into spring training, but with his injury and a disheveled bullpen coming into '12, it remains a question -- and great concern in my opinion -- who will lock down the 8th inning with LH counterpart Perkins and create the bridge to Capps. Normally you want a guy who can miss bats and blow hitters away in the 8th and 9th. Who will it be this year? In my opinion, Jared Burton leaves spring training as the RH setup. Could it be Swarzak, Gray, Burnett?
  20. Unless they plan on trading Revere, I see no advantage to him showing off and saving MLB service time in AAA. And since he's the only real CF backup available, he is the 4th OF.
  21. As I see it the plan for Revere is this: 4th outfielder until 1) Span is hurt or concussion symptoms or otherwise plays lousy 2) Twins stink it up and trade span THEN 1 of 2 lead to Revere taking over CF. If not 1 or 2, then Revere remains the 4th OF until Willingham is made full time DH, Plouffe and Parmelee show they can't handle a cover OF spot. I still think Revere gets plenty of ABs this seasons, with Plouffe relegated to LHP spot starts in right or left only.
  22. At this point, who do you see as our RH set up man? Burton? Swarzak? Does Swarzak getting the start indicate more of a long relief/spot starter role (an immanent need with Baker and Marquis' issues)?
  23. So is Gibson in Ft. Meyers when he starts playing games? That was my guess.
  24. I'll second that I am really enjoying this site and your 'position analysis' pieces. I'm unsure that the projected regular rotation of positions will serve the players and the team well. Rotating/platooning DH/OF did not work well for the WSox last year... though I think our pieces are offensively better than theirs. With all these moving pieces and disparate roles, leadership and age this year, I'm looking for the glue or lube (if you will, and you will won't you?), depending on the metaphor, as a significant 'intangible' this year.
