  1. What do we have now, one or two quality starts on the year? Well, at least they're trying hard and with good sportsmanship!
  2. Good one. Smiling faces all around.
  3. Three guys walk in front of you.... so you swing at the first pitch. Get a better plate approach... that goes for the entire team but Doumit and Danny especially in that inning. Careful chief, you'll soon be attacked for daring to make critical comments.
  4. And why not take another pitch Danny? Put pressure on on struggling pitcher close to being tossed for arguing!
  5. Way to fight Justin!!! Great comeback in that AB!!!
  6. And Morneau continues to be way too aggressive.
  7. Has anyone else noticed the Willingham looks much more passive at the plate the past three games and this AB, rather than attacking pitches?
  8. Another great day to be Twins fan (tongue in cheek)!
  9. Just to be clear (because there is some confusion) aveRISP has nothing to do with getting the RBI last night. To cite RISP as a stat that conforms to that situation is irrelevant. A hit wasn't necessary to get the RBI. I don't know if there is a stat for Sac fly/hit for the go ahead run. But that would be the only stat germane to last nights poor batting performance Mauer - Doumit (although ave RISP would apply to Doumit because with 2 outs there is not sac RBI opportunity).. Nice write-up otherwise.
  10. Hell, taking a walk and Willingham grounding into a DP would have got the run in.... and would have been a better scenario because even though there'd be no RBI, the run would still score.
  11. You are correct. I am frustrated with this team and Mauer in particular BECAUSE he's the best hitter on the team (in baseball) and 1/4 of the payroll, and doesn't even need a hit in that situation, just a sacrifice. My thoughts are measured, thank you. I don't expect him to hit 1.000 (straw man) -- again, you and other comments here miss this point about the sac fly/sac hit. That's not "hitting" at all. Mauer could hit 0.000 for a month and that wouldn't have any bearing on that RBI. There can be times when Mauer doesn't get it done. But isn't it irritating that those time aren't' when we are 4 run up or down? Clutch 'hitting' (and I keep putting it in scare quotes because the RBI did NOT require a hit nor getting on base) is what I'm critiquing here, and giving some support to another poster for arguing something similar and getting attacked for it.
  12. Let's really fill out the logic above: You have to a criminal to criticize criminals, you have to a woman to stand up for women, you have to be a starting MLB catcher for the Twins to critique or lament the performance of Joe Mauer. Have I got that about right? Of course Mauer is one the best hitters of all time, but he should have gotten that run home -- with or with getting a hit in the process. And grow up with the ad hominum jabs. Mauer will be the first one to admit he should have gotten that run in. And once you hear it from his lips -- you can finally believe it.
  13. I like the Mauer rotation so far this year (C, 1B, DH). After watching Doumit for years in Pittsuburgh, I'd say he's playing a good defensive C because he's healthy, which he was not for the Bucs. I like this tandem behind the plate, and no third catcher. Instead of Mauer at 3B, I like to see Burroughs platoon against more RH pitchers and give Valencia days off to think about his approach at the plate. I don't know what to do about position players. I really think they are playing okay now. It's the pitching that kills this team. Until that's fixed, where and how to play people is an ancillary concern.
  14. When is this decision to be made by?
  15. Well that made me puke a little in my mouth.
  16. We didn't need him to get a hit (average), we just needed a productive out: sac fly or sac hit. Relax.
  17. I blame Mauer. That's just pathetic 3-6 batters, and super pathetic for the 3 hole.
  18. Atta boy Mauer, grrrr...
  19. Agreed, if he were out that would be a huge mistake. Don't make the first or third out at third base.
  20. Love that hustle from Carroll!!!
  21. You gotta think Revere is called up because they've already exercised an option on him this year. Oh, and he's an outfielder.
  22. I really don't like to get down on these guys, but I'm calling 2 errors tonight with this defense. Plouffe, Doumit, Parmelee -- sound like shut down D! Here's to hoping that their bats make up for it.
  23. 7.1 BB/9 so far this year (before today's start). That's walks, not Ks. Horrible.
  24. Not with his current walk rate. When could you trust to bring him in?
