  1. It's not that we've lost two straight. It's how we've lost and who we've lost to that produces resentment, not panic. The offense was the one aspect of this team that was supposed to be at least average. 2 run/game to the Orioles' pitching is just shameful. I hope we right the ship tomorrow, but this is getting old real quick.
  2. That must be it. On a different note, look at the crowd... pathetic. It's opening weekend.
  3. I'm sure we can even do better than three soft infield grounders. I'm sure of it!
  4. If you can't find something nice to say, don't say anything at all. So... our defense can play even better than this! Grrrr.....
  5. Willingham doubles, scores Morneau. Parmelee pops out to third. Valencia singles, willing ham to 3rd. Plouffe and Hughes fly out. 3 out.
  6. bottom 4: mauer doubles, morneau doubles scores mauer. 0 out.
  7. Rays 1 Twins 0, bottom 4th. Hendricks: 3 ks, 4 hits, 0 BB. Revere with a triple earlier.
  8. Nice piece here Nick. Well done!
  9. Are there better coaches than Gardy, especially coaching in the playoffs? Yes. Are there worse MLB coaches? Yes. I'm ambivalent but lean towards a favorable view of Gardy. Yet, I share the frustrations that so many of you have articulated above. What peeves me most about Gardy is his intentionally vague, evasive and meaningless comments. It does make one wonder if one knows the game very well when one cannot speak intelligibly about player performance et al. Yet, I do think he's gotten a lot out of the players he's had (for the most part).
  10. Get the brooms out boys!!! Calling the sweep!
  11. Not to displace Morneau at first if Morneau were healthy. Winning a spot is different than getting a spot. Parmelee has played well enough to get himself into a position to get the spot that Morneau leaves vacant because of injury. He's earned the chance (and I hope he succeeds, but am not a homer or loving change for the sake of change) but he hasn't earned the start. Again, with all that said, I hope Morneau gets back to playing everyday 1B and Parmelee has earned (at that point it will be earned) to start in RF.
  12. Oh, and Parm -- the cheese -- for Parmelee.
  13. Food-related: Dough, Ham, Jam -- Doumit, Willingham, (Jamey) Carroll, respectively.
  14. Parmelee gets this promotion only as a consequence of Morneau's situation. He's not earned it, but I'm also not horrified at him getting a chance. Guys do sometimes just breakout in the bigs and at his age. We'll see... Also, very surprise but thankful that we're only carrying two catchers. Willinham is the emergency, which relieves all my worries since his actually been a position player at catcher. The bullpen is still downright scary. Hope I'm wrong, but i fear we'll give up many leads and ties in the 6-8th innings.
  15. Was Hughes hit by pitch a retaliation for Pavano hitting a batter last inning?
  16. If Casilla is hurt for any measurable amount of time, I'd prefer that Hughes start at second. This opinion is independent of the back-up SS problem: either find a waiver or use someone in-house, i.e., Hollimon.
  17. Thanks for the update Seth. Hoping for a full and speedy recovery.
  18. What's the injury and how did it happen?
  19. Bullpen producing glowing optimism today.
  20. I really hadn't heard anything about Gibson's progress, but thought that he was about a year removed from TJ and would be pitching soon (in the next couple months). If things go to plan (health and success) I hope he'll start 2013 at NB and move up accordingly. Weather he gets to NB this year seems a long shot with the info you've provided. Thanks for the info/opinion on this.
  21. Has Fien pitched earlier than the 7th inning in any ST games? Hard to quantify and qualify is so.
  22. The bullpen, again this year, will be the weakest part of the team -- and that's really saying something. Yikes.
  23. I think you were looking to post that in the 'face palm' projections thread.
  24. If Plouffe has those numbers, they may be better than Willinghams' -- would be a nice surprise indeed, but I doubt it.
  25. Pitcher: Capps (Swarzak close second) -- just because my head tells me that neither will have a great year, but my heart believes otherwise. Player: Casilla -- because I don't have any expectations other than mediocrity and know that Alexi can play well above par if motivated? focused? wearing 3/4 sleeves? I don't know what it takes.
