  1. Citing 3-for-37 says all we need to hear about the need to start hitting. Pretty sure the context of Nick's point was that those guys need to start leading the offense, which is pretty much irrefutable.
  2. In a 'Week in Review' column in which the Twins went 2-4 / -21, and when your heroes go a combined 3-for-37, I don't wanna read a feel-good story or a cheerleader piece. Those numbers are what they are, and Nick cited them. Much the same way he'd credit Dozier & Buxton for going 18-for-37, with 5 dingers, 6 steals, and 3 GWRBIs when that happens. The facts is what they is.
  3. Not sure officially, but it should have been ruled a hit and an error. Essentially, every base gained has to be accounted for. And on a close play with a wide throw, the official scorer typically gives the runner the benefit of the doubt. In this case, Buxton should have been credited with a hit, and Gregerson should have been charged with the error allowing Morrison and Buxton advancing an extra base each.
  4. The bad news: With all due respect (and, has anything respectful ever followed that disclaimer?), there was no way Grossman's ball was gonna be caught. Right fielder Young's numbers were visible the entire time as he was in pursuit. Judging from the way the ball came down pretty quickly towards the end, it probably had a ton of topspin on it. You can see Young turn his shoulders to start to play the ball off the wall when Trout swoops in from out of camera range and grabs it. If nothing else, on a ball behind him, Adrianza should have checked with Glynn, who had a far easier read to make on that ball from the third base coaching box. Not scoring from first base on that ball, when running with the pitch, is bad baserunning, plain & simple. The good news: We are bemoaning a tough loss that capped off a 7-3 roadie against one horrible team & two excellent teams. Given the recent rough patch, this is a very good thing. Looks like the ship is well on its way to being righted. Got to get to .500, then start making hay from there.
  5. Normally I would find myself in this same spot. But man, this team got so discombobulated after losing what, 10 of 11 or whatever it was. I'm not ready to say a 3 game streak will cure all that's illing the team, but ya gotta start somewhere. I'm hoping this is a return to competent baseball. Gotta get back to .500, then start building on that.
  6. Love love love me some Esco. Gimme an entire team full of guys that play the game with as much joy & passion as that cat exudes every single day. Love seeing guys like that thrive.
  7. Nice write-up, Nick. Wish I were as optimistic. If people wonder why I rag on Sano all the time, this is a prime example. Given his ability, we should be talking about an MVP-caliber ballplayer. Instead, we are trying to conceptualize his penchant for not staying healthy enough to remain in the lineup, regardless of the reasons behind that. Maybe I'm guilty of my own double-standard of having probably more tolerance than most for brain injuries, but not giving injuries to other body parts the same benefit of the doubt. But as Souhan wrote today, Sano hasn't seen 500 PAs since 2013 in the minors. At what point comes the paradigm shift from envisioning Sano as a potential MVP candidate to one of, if not the, biggest waste of talent / potential in Twins franchise history?
  8. Was pretty much gonna post this exact same sentiment. I don't so much mind losing if my team is competing. Typically happy to find myself in lock step with The Chief on most things, this is not one of those times, obvs. Not sure what was more infuriating- watching this meltdown play out, or feeling like it was happening in slow motion and still nobody was able to do something, anything, to keep it from going completely off the rails.
  9. Sano 2018 DL trip number one. Retroactive to April 28.* *high five to spycake*
  10. No, no, no! Coincidental! Bugged me for years on end that Alannis used the word 'ironic'. Song should've been titled, "Stuff That Just Plain Sucks." Then one day it dawned on me. The title "Ironic" is perfect, because the stuff mentioned in that song is not ironic. Makes perfect sense to me now, all these years later. As usual, the joke was on me.
  11. Enjoyed this episode, great to hear more Twins talk. Especially now that the season has started. Gotta say though, I lose another shred of respect for Gleeman with every Souhan reference.
  12. Only within the last couple of years did I come to grips with the use of "ironic" in that song.
  13. Number 5 above had me going to Youtube to watch the Jane Fonda / Johnny Carson / Zsa Zsa Gabor incident, but that's a cat of a whole 'nother color.
  14. Thinking the Twins are gonna have a much better chance against the M's bully. This Paxton feller must've gained some inspiration from the bald eagle landing on him pre-game.
  15. Sano would be so much more dangerous with a big bopper in the lineup behind him.
  16. 40+ pitches so far for Gibson to get 6 outs. Yuck. Hated deciding not to go to the yard today. Would've hated the time spent freezing our arses off being dependent on Gibson even more.
  17. Why teams get to look at replays before deciding to challenge is silly to me. Kinda takes the 'challenge' part out of it. Should have about 2.2 seconds to decide whether to challenge or not. And don't even think about @ me about yesterday's cluster of a review when Rosario should've been picked off.
  18. FSN just showed it. Landed on the M's starting pitcher. Ha!
  19. For me, and it's not always easy to discern, but I do draw a distinction between a guy using a platform to sound off about something, and simply answering what he was asked.
  20. Adrianza's ball may have still been in the batter's box when he kicked it.
  21. Errrr, you're probably right. Actually, ain't no probably. But it was The Duke, ya know.
