  1. Not understanding the Duffy arguments to replace Hildy. Perplexing that Rogers did not pitch. I think when Hildy gets over used he may struggle. Hildy has been pretty good and Duffy, besides the one outing has been close to a disaster the last 3 years? Yes I wish we had more options to put in that situation in the bullpen, which I think is the real issue. Yeah we split with Detroit and we are a better team. Let's see how we do against the Halo's bullpen wise.
  2. Glad Perez has a way important family activity. However, wish it was not Stewart who was coming up, but I get there are more things than just who's pitching well, as options and where each guy is at come into play. Just want to keep our foot on the necks of our opponents.
  3. Huge start after last nights game. We needed to get competitive innings and Perez gave us that and more. We need to have the ability to come back after a bad loss, against a good team, and show some meddle, no matter who is toeing the rubber. Tonight that happened. 13 hits in 3 games for the Twins. Not great, but extra base hits keep helping us out. I wonder how sustainable it is? It's clear we are going to hit for power, but will we consistently hit? We will see. Thanks Tom!
  4. Cole was absolutely electric. Wow, I do not remember him throwing that hard for Pittsburgh. Once he got out of the first the game was basically over.
  5. Listen, this is all great. I love it. We have to beat these teams. But beiting crap, this is what we did under Gardy and the mid 2000s. Is this team ready to beat the Astros when they come into town? We will see. Being good is fun, and I love it. Being good and able to beat a playoff team is different. Maybe this team will be different. Just beat good teams, so if and when playoffs happen you are not embarrassed by a truly good team. 21 home runs is 5 games? C'mon video game stuff
  6. I have more faith in Magil. He was a pleasant surprise last year, and Molly used him in an odd manner, as there were a few times where he would not pitch for over a week. But he has some kind of track record, where as Harper, despite some modest success this month, has more of an up hill climb. Of course a great story, and hoping he sticks.
  7. Every time I want to write Eddie off as not a star (his dropped ball or his many weird adventures on the base paths or outfield), he ends up making me swallow my statement. Is he a superstar, I dunno. All I know he drives me crazy, but he's our best player. He just good. Wish the Toronto stink could get off these two wins, but wow the orioles are bad Twins did what they should, beat the hell out of a bad team. Our team can hit boys.
  8. Agree mostly with Doc. Pineda deserves longer consideration, as he's been mostly good. I believe in this line up, eventually for power. I worry about Buck batting over .250 over the long haul, but I will take .250, and Kepler at leadoff is just weird. It's super early, so I get that. Our bullpen has been not good, and weird by the way, which most of us predicted. Starting pitching was ok, but Cleveland, KC, and Toronto have awful lineups. Our results should be better. I know Gibson is coming off ecoli, but he did not finish strong last year and is not throwing strikes this year. Still think he can be better. I don't believe in 3 of our 5 starters as locks though. Again it's early, so I am not in panic mode. Couple that with a new manager who at best is trying new things, but often not making sense...again no panic, but we should not lose 3 of 4 to a terrible Toronto team at home. We have lots of games without these weird off days, so we will know more soon.
  9. I agree with Doc and others, I am not ready to move Jake to the bullpen. I think he can be a solid 5th starter. We will see. Perez, however I am concerned about. He has not been stretched out yet, and throws hard, but control is going to be a big issue. We did not pay much for him, but once we give him some starts and it's more of the same, I would look at Alberto, or Gonsalvez being brought in.
  10. Uh, Gibby's profile, since he came up, was he had the stuff, but would not attack, he would nibble on the outside corners (with his sinking fastball). I don't think this has been based solely on his 2 starts. This observation was earned over his entire body of work. Over the past 1.5 years, his success is directly correlated to him attacking hitters, and throwing his curve ball more. It could also be he is not at full strength yet, as another poster brought up.
  11. Thanks Tom! Assume De Jong is DFA's after tomorrow? We should be getting some bullpen arms back soon. I liked how Rocco managed the pen in high leverage situations. I did not see the much of Gibby's innings, was he nibbling like he did in the first game? He did have 6k's. We eventually will need some quality starts. Hope, but doubt Garver will be back behind the plate tomorrow.
  12. I thought they should have stolen Buck when he was on base in the middle inning. Turned out not to hurt us, but he's almost automatic. Agreed he took a weird route in the 8th. Not the most impressive win, but a win is a win. Assuming Garver gets the plate tomorrow.
  13. Tom, you rock, love these recaps thank you so much. As good as Jose was, and he was filthy, I think it's always good to be level headed. This lineup that Cleveland fielded, was week. Very week. Still you have to execute. As for getting to Kluber when they did with all new acquisitions, huge. The first pitch aggressiveness was not working all game, once we made him throw more pitches we had success. Kluber is a vet and knew what we were up to, just glad to see we made a few adjustments. Gives me hope. The problem with Cleveland is we go from one great pitcher to another. Hopefully our next two pitchers can duplicate what Berrios did, as runs will be tough to come by.
  14. This...man start the season, he will be fine. Probably not great, but Sano is not great there. The bullpen should be our focus, I'm terrified where we are right now Same reason I want to see how Buck reacts to a regular season slider breaking outside of the zone from Bauer before I think he has arrived....
  15. And a better OB%, which was what he was supposed to be bringing to the table from the minors.
  16. Kepler is interesting. He was known as a good OBP guy at AA and AAA, but it has not translated to MLB. There is some power there as we have seen, but low batting averages and low OBP has me concerned.
  17. This. Reed maybe had already been over used at his previous employer but he was throwing much faster early with us than later. We kinda beat him to death and then he was terrible. Same with Hildy. He was young and new to high leverage and we hammered him. I don't know if that was the reason for both guys regressing, but Reed had a positive track record before our coaching staff got a hold of him. Rogers and May were fantastic last year and hopefully with smart usage they will be good again. I think Magil was a great surprise and his velo and K ability were good but there were days when they would not use him. The old coaching staff hammered the same guys in the same situations. Todays bullpens you have to give rest as they pitch so much more. If our new staff is cognizant of that, I think we will be ok. Would love one more solid arm though. Reed is the big question, if he gets his velocity back he will be fine, if not, he's done, as we saw.
  18. I have a feeling Gibby and his agent will wait until about mid way through the year before entertaining any type of long term offer and then it will take a 4 year deal (assuming he doesn't turn into a pumpkin). Like Nick says this is his one time to make big money, and I am sure he will bet on himself instead of a 2 or 3 year 10 mil per offer. Odo is simply more likely to sign at this point.
  19. I tend to agree. Still a little queasy for me to say he has finally arrived as a #2 or #3, just pencil him in. He is trending in the right direction and appears to have things figured out. Also, he is 31, and has not had his big "contract." Why would he sign say a 2 to 3 year deal with the twins before the start of this year, when if he has a good year again, he can get a 4 or 5 year deal for a much larger sum (likely somewhere else)? I am sure his agent has brought this to his attention. I would be surprised if the twins were able to extend him before this season starts.
  20. Couldn't agree more on his take of the Twins uniforms. That gold has to go. Also I would love for us to bring back a version of our gray pinstripes from our glory years. The current away unis are roughly the same as the Braves and Indians, with gray, a little red and a little navy.
  21. Curious as to why you would have Rosario on this list (noticed Cody did as well)? He regressed pretty hard over the last month or two and I believe Gleeman had some stats that his swinging at pitches out of the strike zone went from low 30% to well over 50% during that time. All this before he got hurt. I would say he he established himself as a key member of this Twins team moving forward (showing that last year was not a fluke), but not a top candidate to be most improved?
  22. Nick, Thanks for your weekly wrap ups. I appreciate you coloring your writing with your opinions. You are one of the more objective writers on here and that is always greatly appreciated.
  23. How crazy is this? I am more skeptical of Austin than I am of La Tortuga. I believe that Austin is a supreme power threat, which is great, we gave up on Palka, and that is still up for debate. I am glad to have Austin next year where we can figure out the K vs. HR theory. However, the way the interviews with MOY and others the last few months have downplayed a kid who the hole team rallies around, and with few at bats, seems like at least worth a shot is fantastic. I hope he keeps befuddling the experts with his put the ball in play performance. These are the type of players, whether they are starters or not that teams rally around. I hope they take him seriously next year. I continue to hope he makes decisions hard.
  24. Love Hildy, but he seems to be very streaky. Once he goes on one of these streaks maybe pitch in lower leverage situations? Molitor using him a ton. Count me as one of those who was pretty down on Stewart. Nice to see improvement from him this year and success at the MLB level. I am intruiged.
