  1. Well, I'm not entirely sure what aspect of The Force that Luke was using.. but if he was simply using Physical Force to guide his Laser... wouldn't he still need to see the target to know where to put it? Hmm... That would mean Ashbury's Lens theory would come back into play..
  2. When the Twins won the World Series in 1991, they started the year 2-9. If we lose the next 4 games, then I'll be worried.
  3. The punchline here is that we the masses are nowhere to be seen.
  4. You may want to keep this picture handy.
  5. I wouldn't say that this study is cut-and-dry, because politics never are, but these dudes spent over 10 years trying to determine who influences American politics: Their conclusion...The Elite. The Elite were followed by Interest Groups. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/princeton-experts-say-us-no-longer-democracy
  6. If he runs as a 3rd party Candidate, he might receive a small percentage of the popular vote, but (like you said) there is not a chance in h*** he gets any electoral votes. He probably wouldn't even get Kentuky's.
  7. It is blatantly obvious that you have more content knowledge than me regarding this subject. I guess the point I am trying to make is I do not like the fact that the team must have sat down and discussed the cover art to some length and came to decision and then afterwards they were coerced into pulling it because an outside source doesn't like it. If their intent wasn't to objectify or disrespect women, then it is not their fault for someone else portraying it that way. On the other hand, if they were to publicly announce that was their intent, then that is definitely not okay.
  8. A few of them just have to stay alive that long.
  9. Maybe the opposing ideologies within our SC Justices may finally meet in the middle and decide to stick it out for another 4... to 8 years.
  10. I think people are too sensitive. It's a fictional story with fictional characters. Changing the cover doesn't change the content of what happens in the story. If you don't like it, ignore it. You can't force the authors to not publish what they want to publish.
  11. We don't need to worry about it unless he gets elected.
  12. I honestly feel at this point I would start Hicks in the minors next year and let him stay there until he absolutely proves he should be playing at a higher level. I know there are not many other options but at just pick someone and throw him out there.
  13. If you happened to be an NBA fan and had some sliver of hope in the Wolves this season, it was all washed away as you saw Rubio laying on the court holding his ankle the other night. While the media may force you to believe NBA basketball is a one man show (i.e. Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose), anyone who knows enough about basketball can see that there still exists 5 man squads that are good because they play team basetkball (i.e. The Spurs, The Clippers, the Grizzlies). I do get frustrated though with both College and NBA basketball with the inconsistent and high number of fouls called. If you watch Lebron James, he rarely gets fouls called on him and he can easily go to the free throw line 15 times a game. I am a University of Arizona fan and I watched precisely one Duke game last year: Arizona vs Duke. It was the same thing with Jabari Parker. The broadcasters were in love with him and so were the referees. He could do no wrong. That's my problem with basketball these days.
  14. There is so much pressure riding on this movie that I feel as though JJ is going to be extra careful about getting it right. He has a lot of ups and downs in his career and this could quite literally tarnish his name forever if he botches it. That being said, I fully expect him to make sure his action scenes are over the top awesome, his Star Wars historical accuracy will be on point and he'll include just enough but not too much classic JJ Abrams weirdness. Whether or not it ends up being really good, I'm super excited. It's another Star Wars movie with brand new material. Should be fun.
  15. Yeah I worry most about the "unlucky" being turned into "injury prone."
  16. The Twins current "mold" is something you are okay with? Maybe that sort of change could be a good thing.
  17. Take a shot. Why not? Even if he is expensive, it would be well worth the potential of quite literally turning the attitude of the club completely around.
  18. If these guys begin the year in the minors, that would mean the Twins have better options for the bench (and in Left : O ) than these three. That would be a plus, I guess. Unfortunately though, I can easily foresee a mid-season call-up to be an everyday player for one of these guys.
  19. Having too many quality starters is a problem I would like to have. If It is me then I add a new pitcher like this. 1. Make a list of your starting pitchers from best to worst 2. Put your newly acquired pitcher on top of that list. 3. Guy #6 is no longer on that list. There are too many "what if's" with that list going into next season. Can we bank on Nolasco or Pelfrey at this point? Or May or Meyer?
  20. If I were the GM I would do whatever it takes to get a starting pitcher that is better than Hughes. At the very least then (provided Hughes doesn't fall back from this year) the team would have a respectable 1 & 2.
  21. Does that mea if Hicks takes every BP swing like it was bottom 9 game 7 bases loaded 2 outs then before long he'll be an above average hitter?? That would solve our problems. I would be much more concerned about his hitting if he starts day 1 in LF. Although the work ethic in general would be a valuable lesson to learn.
  22. Thanks for the welcoming words, Glunn. I seem to recall Ashburyjohn mentioning something regarding a common theme here on TD regarding the age of my father. I will say this in my father's defense: I can probably beat him in a game of one on one basketball at this point, but he can still take me in just about everything else in life (golf, words with friends, ping pong). Chief is a wicked good ping pong player.
  23. If, as the article suggests, he does actually have some work ethic or motivation issues, maybe the new skipper will be a complete no-nonsense guy and not want anything to do with Hicks. I know if I were a manager and I had a guy who is struggling to stay in the big leagues and he is not taking EVERY opportunity to better himself and he doesn't seem entirely motivated, he wouldn't find himself in my lineup very often.
  24. You're right, your memory isn't quite what it used to be. What actually happened was the Ump checked down to the lady behind the third base dugout and she called them both strikes. Stee-RIKE!
  25. Ha! Very well. Good call. I'll accept ''Chief Jr.'' over '''Still wet behind the ears,'' so I appreciate that sentiment. I'm not certain he is aware yet that I promised 100 of his dollars. Yeah Ashburyjohn, his son David, my Dad and I spent the weekend in Phoenix and watched three AFL games and had ourselves a pretty good time!
