  1. After reading the article, I got the impression that Berrios is fantastic, but the Twins want even more out of him. I think they see him as a young Frank Viola. A bit excitable, but a world of talent. They want Jose's second debut to be a lot more successful than his first one, where he lost command and got shelled. A couple extra coats of polish doesn't seem unreasonable.
  2. The whole article I kept thinking, "Why don't they make this guy a coach."
  3. I like how Kepler likes to flip the ball to somebody while he's still sliding. Panache.
  4. I agree with GMinTraining. If Carlos Paulino is doing better than Murphy in AAA, then call him up for his cuppa. Non-prospect guys in the minors can always use a morale boost. Let them know that hard work and performance still rates a shot at the bigs.
  5. If the Twins do decide to unload a bunch of players, I'll be sad to see Fernando Abad go. Gotta love a guy that can throw a 95mph heater, then a 70mph straight change up.
  6. Hit by a pitch... Hell yeah, that counts!
  7. I wonder if we're watching a transformation in the Twins. First half, they were screw-ups, giving away games left and right. Now they're starting to look like fighters that don't give up, and they can trade punches with the likes of the Boston Red Sox.
  8. Funky game. I thought about turning off the TV a couple times. Now I'm glad I didn't.
  9. Great athlete, good student of the game. Kepler appears to be gradually gaining confidence in all aspects of his game at the mlb level. Unlike Rosario's first season, Kepler's approach at the plate is far more cautious, willing to take a walk, with a much smaller swing zone. This bodes very well for avoiding the sophomore slump suffered by Rosario and Vargas, both of whom were sent to AAA to reduce their high K rates. I don't see a major weakness in Kepler's hitting approach. His swing is quick, flat, and powerful. He appears very poised, before and after the swing. He doesn't fall off against lefties, and has been hitting righties about the same. In the field, Kepler is getting solid after some shaky moments early on. He is much better now at playing the carom off the right field wall, and he is getting very good at measuring his angles to fly balls. He still looks a little sloppy fielding grounders, but as he accumulates practice reps, I expect his grounder flubs will become rare. His arm appears to be about average, though I think his accuracy will improve on his throws to second, so he might catch a few guys trying to stretch singles. On the bases, Kepler so far has been pretty conservative, but his minor league career showed potential. He seems to be a technique-oriented player, so I suspect he will learn to steal bases about the way we saw with young Joe Mauer. Not as adventurous as Rosario, but probably a better percentage.
  10. Kintzler just won the Houdini award.
  11. This does seem somewhat dramatic.
  12. Great outing by Gibson, 8 innings of one-run ball. My only objection now is that Gibson is pitching so well now, can we really expect Kintzler to be as effective?
  13. Chili Davis could make Byron Buxton into a great hitter. All they have to do is trade him to the Red Sox...
  14. You used 'Kurt Suzuki' and 'white hot' in the same sentence. You know what that means, right? AXEBATS FOR EVERYBODY!!!!
  15. Trevor May is in the bullpen only because Terry Ryan wanted to keep the team somewhat respectable with an otherwise crappy pen this season. Now that the Twins are entirely irrelevant, They should immediately move May back to the starting rotation, where he can do the most good for the next several years. It's always easier to find decent relievers than to find decent starters. May could be an innings-eating mid-rotation starter, possibly better.
  16. Keper's BA doesn't account for the way he's getting out: Lots of hard line drives, unfortunately mostly at the right fielder. If anything, Der Kid's low BA should regress upwards if he keeps flattening the back side of baseballs. Some of those screamers should find a hole. He could also trying hitting a few balls to the left side of the pitcher...
  17. But what if Rochester gets to the playoffs? Hehehehehehehe.....
  18. All arguments are hereby cancelled. EINE KLEINE MASHENBALLEN!!
  19. Milone is quietly pitching a very good game. Shhhh....
  20. The video is even more convincing that Hrbek pulled Gant off the bag. Notice Hrbek has a leg braced behind him. No way does he need to fall backward - his balance was centered perfectly. But instead of remaining centered, Hrbek moved his butt backwards and lifted as he made the catch. A beautiful wrestling move, but it should have been called interference. He got away with it because he integrated the move with the catch, shifting his weight back and up. What Hrbek did would be familiar to any NFL wide receiver or NBA center. Big guys learn to move their opponent out of the way with clever footwork. This in no way diminishes my love for Kenta. One of the nicest guys in sports. He pulled a good one on that play.
  21. Milone's pickoff was beautiful. Did you see how he set it up with a head-turn, pitch on the previous pitch? He baited Choo into watching his head turn, then did a slightly smaller head turn (less than 45 degrees), then threw to first. Clever as hell.
  22. Slight difference there. Hrbek actually did put an All-Star wrestling move on Gant, knocking him off balance. Now, Herbie did make it look like an accident, which makes him even more beautiful in my eyes. Proof is in this observation: What other time do you remember Kent Hrbek accidentally falling over? Pretty much never. The guy that got Rosario did it right - he held completely still where he made the tag, no leaning into Rosie. Clean play, smart play.
  23. The best comparison isn't some slick semi-all star glove at third, it's young 3B's like Plouffe in his first year at 3rd. Sano as a fielder has plenty of talent to play the hot corner, and he'll get better as he accumulates thousands more reps, just like Plouffe has improved. Sano has a great arm, soft hands, and mentally he's got a good model of the game in his head. The hesitation mistake he made today will disappear after another couple thousand two hoppers. The coaches will keep telling him to attack the ball, and eventually he won't hang back anymore.
  24. The sour grapes from Dick and Roy are not right. Rosario's foot came off the bag by an inch on the second step. Same rules for both sides, boys. Great play by them, hold that tag until they stop moving!
  25. Hate to say it, but Rosario's out.
