  1. I'm far more concerned with a catcher who can work with the young pitchers and Pinto than their FX numbers. If you make a list or traits you want in a defensive minded veteran catcher, FX numbers are down the list.
  2. I think it has to be Nishi. No one mentioned Brett Merriman. I agree whole heartedly with Klingbeck, Stahoviak, McCarty, Nieto, Sal Butera. Which Ortiz sucked? Junior or J.R.? I can't remember.
  3. What's wrong with having a little depth? Everyone is assuming there are no injuries to Mauer, Morneau, Willingham, or Doumit. People keep saying what if Morneau isn't back, what if he gets hurt. Well, we've seen Parmelee hit big league pitching for a month, what if he plays everyday and hits .194 like he was off the bench this year? We need pitching, but have money coming off the books with Pavano and Capps. Use that money to get a pitcher and keep a line up that 1-7 is starting to look real good. No need to rush Parmelee.
  4. I know it's one game, all I can say is WOW. He was plain horrible tonight.
  5. 75-87 would be a nice finishing mark considering where the team started, but I wonder if Sept call-ups may change your record? The run differential has to be +10 or so since the horrid start. We were minus -80 almost after opening day. I don't know what exactly to think about 2013: Diamond is certanly promising, but can he realistically put up a 2.91 ERA again? I am starting to like our line up more and more, if Plouffe can continue his improvement, it could be a real nice line-up. And why in the world haven't we extended Morneau before we can't afford him? Multi year contract when his value was low would have made sense. Waiting now is going to drive up the price a lot I fear.
  6. Exactly. I've been saying this since the trade.
  7. I know Parmelee has a shot and has improved, but he just has that AAAA player look to him. At any rate, if you call him up, he should play. I hope they leave him in AAA and let Morneau continue to sting the ball.
  8. I wish they would just shut Pavano down. No one is going to claim him for the month of September. There's no reason for the Twins to have him pitch in September when they could get a few looks at other pitchers.
  9. The whole issue is ridiculous. And making this fuss probably only helps Chick-Fil-A. I personally believe gay marraige should be legal, but the reaction is embarrasing. Of couse the right has to then react to the left's reaction to make themselves look just as foolish. As an independent, I as usual, shake my head at both sides wondering if they will tackle more important matters or if they will just grandstand to their bases hoping to get one more vote.
  10. I can't wait to hear the answers! I suspect they will argue Forbes numbers, but we can hope for some accountability.
  11. So you are going to use Mr Scrooge to justify the Polad's?
  12. Will you ask them firsthand to sell the team? I've heard via interview firsthand plenty of times the Polad's and TR have used the budget as an excuse. This team won division titles despit the ownership, and never could get past the first round because ownership never helped them get over that hump. There's a reason why they were under dogs in each series. Unfortunately for me, I love baseball, so they occasionally get my money though they don't deserve it.
  13. Although I would really like to see a new GM, what the Twins really need is a new owner. The Polads are the worst owners in town by far, and are far more concerned with their budget numbers than W's and L's. They could easily afford to go over their budget numbers in years they need to sign quality free agents like this off season or next. I think anyone who lives in the real world, knows they won't. At some point maybe they will realize it takes money to make money, but I'm not holding my breath. So, we are expected to win on the cheap building within and with a GM who isn't exactly known for quality drafts.
  14. Basically you have two camps, the first which thinks the trade makes no sense so why bother, and the second camp who is stroking TR. Neither player received will likely amoun to anything, Escobar will be sent packing in a year. And no, Slowey wasn't a good pitcher, had a crap attitude, and never was dominant on a good day. Extremely lame comparison.
  15. Does this suprise anyone? Didn't think so.
  16. I don't expect anything from Manship, I guess they might as well give him a few starts and see what he can do there. I would be suprised if he is back next year.
  17. I never expected stud players in return, but getting guys who are not even top 10 in a crappy minor league system is not accetable. At best we have a mediocre reliever who doesn't miss bats and a utility player whom I would argue is not as good as some we already have in our system. If you are going to trade Liriano for this type of package, you might as well find another team with a deeper system and you might as well get two pitchers or a corner infielder. The utility guy makes little sense when we have plenty of these type of guys already in the system who are more highly regarded.
  18. For all we know TR has been offered two B prospects for Span so far. You can play that game all day. Who is to say Span's value will go up next year? A year less on a contract friendly deal, a year older, another year with a possible concussion, and another year we block another OF while we lose 90 games. Do we have to rush a deal right now, no. Is it likely his value will be higher next year? I doubt it.
  19. Okay internet tough guy... I have yet to hear of any reported attempt to sign Liriano this year either, but that didn't stop you from writing that. Where are your examples, or are you full of ****? Have you heard the man speak? Have you seen how he handled his past few trades? He can't live off the A.J. trade forever.
  20. Earlier, you said how do you know TR hasn't tried to sign Liriano. Knowing TR's past, one could also suggest that he received a good deal for Span, but is over valuing him and his team friendly contract. I really have a hard time believing that we couldn't get a resonable deal for Span who plays in our deepest area of prospects.
  21. 29. I hate that the Twins want Terry Ryan to return as full-time GM. 30. I hate that I'll see one or both of these mediocre prospects this Sept as the Twins try to reinforce that this was somehow a good trade. 31. I hate that I have this huuuuge headache after pounding my head into the table as I read the trade last night.
  22. I also greatly enjoy reading the minor league reports. Thanks for all the work guys!
  23. Just one more reason that TR no longer has it as a GM, he had his fingers all over BS's moves as well.
  24. Whenever Paul Allen gives an opinion, bet the other side. The guy knows nothing about any sport other than the NFL and horse racing and his knowledge of those two are suspect. Banking on Baker, Gibson and Wimmers is foolish. I suspect its possible all 3 could be on innings counts. Do not take the option on Baker, offer a smaller contract with incentives. Elminiates alot of cash and risk. Signing a high profile pitcher is generally for a playoff push, not a rebuild, but the team needs a pitcher able to go 200+ innings and stabilize the rotation. I would atleast entertain the idea, although interest could be a whole other matter. Right now a rotation would come from: Diamond DeVries Walters Liriano- if signed Baker- if option is accepted or new signing Deduno Gibson Hendriks Duensing Not sure I see a 200+ inning guy in that list right now.
  25. I agree with your comments about upside and our dmen pairings. I think your lines are off though. Heatley-Koivu-Parise Cullen/Bouchard-Grandlund-Setoguchi Cullen/Buchard-Brodziak-Clutterbuck Veilleux-Powe-Mitchell I wouldn't be shocked to see Mitchell push for 3rd line time as well. When we need some fighting or size Kassian or Konopka.
