  1. Apparently every spring training game is on local radio this year.
  2. In rural South Dakota the highest level available to me was Little League through 6th grade. I was terrible for many years, striking out almost every time, but occasionally things would click and I'd go on a crazy hot streak. I hit 5 home runs my fifth grade season, all in consecutive at-bats spanning three games, and 3 were grand slams. And then I never hit another one again. Completely unexplainable. Defensively I was a decent catcher but had no depth perception to play outfield. The college baseball coach at Dakota State inquired if I had ever pitched, seeing I was 6'6", but nothing ever came of that brief encounter.
  3. I think it's completely open to interpretation. What if we get to spring training and Jeff Clement hits .423 with 8 homers in extended action... it's certainly possible he could then make it as a bench option and carry over his success to the regular season. Yes you pointed out a few examples of guys who had great springs in 2012 but bombed in the regular season, but on the flip side I'm sure there are plenty of cases where just the opposite happens. It's interesting reading and fun to think about the possibilities after four months of nothing.
  4. I would be happy to be a Cleveland fan this offseason. I actually think they had the best offseason in the division, if not the AL. Some of the major additions: Terry Francona Nick Swisher Trevor Bauer Mark Reynolds Drew Stubbs Brett Myers And even these guys are in Cleveland with minor-league deals and ST invites: Jason Giambi Daisuke Matsuzaka Matt Capps Scott Kazmir Giovanni Soto Ryan Raburn Jeremy Hermida Ben Francisco Sure, a lot of those guys aren't going to pan out, but they are all very low-risk, high-reward types of signings. I am one who favors stockpiling a lot of these types who have had succes in the past. Who knows, they could be steals. And if not, the loss is minimal. Sure the Twins have grabbed a handful of guys like Harden and Clement, but not too many familiar names. I wish the Twins would have gone in a similar direction, although I understand the situations are very different as the Twins by most metrics have a much stronger farm system than the Indians... You don't want a bunch of has-beens block the way for younger guys getting playing time. But given Cleveland's situation, I like what Antonetti did.
  5. Well, I have to go with Pat Meares. The first Twins game I ever attended was a double-header vs. Oakland in 1996 at the age of 14 and I snuck down to third or fourth row behind the dugout for the second game, sitting near the players' wives. Meares went 2-4 with 2 RBI in the game and made a great diving catch in the top of the seventh on a Geronima Berroa liner. Greg Hansell was pitching. I have a photographic memory of that particular moment for some reason.
  6. Chrome seems faster to open and load. I also like how I can type, for instance, r, enter, and it goes to reader.google.com. I really only have a handful of sites I visit so all it needs is the first letter or two and it's instantly loading popular URLs.
  7. I'd swap Hernandez for Slama, and Benson for Hicks.
  8. It almost looks like someone Photoshopped Mauer's face onto a kid's body. He's aging very slowly.
  9. Wait times for the big names in recent years have been 3-4 hours, if not longer. People find out which table/area the player will be at and start lining up hours in advance. That's what I hate about TwinsFest is the lines. I have a Twins jersey with 50 autographs and they're mostly from the lesser known players or minor leaguers because their lines are so much shorter and more tolerable. I don't know if the team's recent lack of success will bring out fewer fans... who knows, you might have better luck after two straight dismal years.
  10. Given what Gardy has to work with, I'd say a 9-man rotation might make sense. For the first time since I started cheering for the Twins in 1993 I have no hope at all going into the season.
  11. I laughed out loud when I saw that Blackburn was the ace. Much like My29 makes me laugh out loud... my my 29!
  12. They current occupy the 6 seed! How can you say they aren't sniffing the playoffs?
  13. Somehow I don't think the Athletics are going to surprise everyone and win this division again next season. Or the Astros or Mariners. Or Rangers, probably.
  14. I know very little of other teams' farm systems, but this list of prospects excites me greatly.
  15. Holy crap. TR just ****ed the Phillies so hard. Pardon my French. There's no better way to put it. Couldn't agree more. This is vintage Terry Ryan here. Has the feel of the Pierzynski trade... only way more initial excitement.
  16. I'm sure we'll hear Drew Storen's name bandied about in any potential deal rumors.
  17. That tweet doesn't necessarily make it sound like the deal has been offered. Either way, it just doesn't seem good for either side.
  18. The Twins and Royals have literally never swung a trade in my lifetime, and I'm 30. But based on that logic, a trade is all the more imminent.
  19. Love the Walks Will Haunt shirt. Does it say "Told You So" on the back?
  20. I agree that hearing zero Twins rumors is frustrating and I like most others am extremely impatient. To me, this lack of activity is more frustrating than the actual losing going on on the field during the season. The biggest Twins news so far this offseason is coaching and personnel shakeups. Of course Terry Ryan is the most tight-lipped executive in sports, so what can be expected.
  21. I am very impatient. I really liked some of the recent offseasons where the wheels were in motion immediately. I have to applaud our old friend Bill Smith in that regard, he was off and running as soon as the World Series ended. That Hardy-Gomez deal happened in early November... as did the infamous Garza-Young swap.
  22. Pretty sure that Rosario is too good to be true. It would only make sense that he suffer an even further setback than the ball to the eye.
  23. Baker would be very nice to have back, but at the same time I feel like the Twins should be looking outside the organization... I would just prefer to see some new bodies in here and switch things up.
  24. I don't know when it becomes officially official, but I would be very surprised if they were not operating as an American League team right now.
  25. This news is a shame. I had a nice experience with Mr. Klinger a few years back when he sent me the mp3 to the Hormel Weiner Winner song to use at my wedding dance.
