  1. I agree completely with Nick on this assessment. While I'd like to say that I'm surprised by this development, I'm really not. Something needs to be done to significantly affect the heart and soul of this team because it seems more often than not in recent years that when the going got tough, especially in the post season, the Twins collapsed like a house of cards. I don't have an answer for that, but I sure hope someone in the organization does.
  2. Nice opportunity for someone to step into Gibson's next 1 or 2 starts and show the team that they at least might have what it takes to earn a roster spot next season. I hope that the UC conditions are at least partly to blame for the quality of his pitching much of the season. I also hope he can get the condition at least somewhat under control. Can't be enjoyable trying to be a major league pitcher with that condition.
  3. Agree with the logic. However, I'm not sure that MLB would allow a non-roster player in the dugout for this purpose. I'm also guessing that the opposing team would need to buy off. Unlikely that would happen.
  4. We all know he needs to retain a positive outlook and stay with a positive message. However, I have to wonder, realistically, how much he and the coaching staff can and are doing with the cards they were dealt.
  5. Too bad it won't be. Although I hope it doesn't happen that way, I can easily see the Twins losing 2 of 3 at home to the Tigers, with the way we've been playing lately.
  6. Problem in the first game was that the pitching staff mostly forgot to show up (again). It's hard to beat any team when your pitching staff is throwing up junk to a mostly AAA lineup that should only be seen in batting practice.
  7. Good for him! I trust he's up to the challenge.
  8. The only thing I can say to that is that we just don't know how many of those stolen bases were basically off the pitcher instead of the catcher. No way that I know of to really know for sure. I'm willing to give him benefit of the doubt until we get a better read.
  9. Yet another absolutely pathetic performance, at home, against an eminently beatable opponent! Physical mistakes (which are somewhat excusable), numerous mental mistakes, poor hitting, poor pitching, yada yada yada! This has gotten completely ridiculous and has become inexcusable due to its apparent frequency. Something drastic needs to change here and the sooner the better. Just wish I had a good sense of what the answer(s) is/are. Don't mean to be a Debbie-downer here. That's just how I feel right now.
  10. Unfortunately. The longer this total lack of offense goes on, the easier I find it to come up with an excuse for not even tuning into the game. Sad!
  11. I get the same experience living just outside Indianapolis. Indy is considered to be in the baseball "home" viewership zone for both Chicago and Cincinnati. Therefore, I am never able to view any games against the White Sox/Cubs and also the Reds, even on the Extra Innings premium package on DirecTV. Very frustrating at times, but I've learned how to live with it.
  12. Any guesses on whether this losing streak hits double digits? I think it's a 50-50 proposition now.
  13. I'd say "absolutely pathetic", but I think that goes without saying. Just when you think it's gotten as low as you can go, they find a way to dig the hole even deeper. If the overall pitching doesn't start showing some noticeable improvement soon, this will turn into a very long and dissatisfying season. Berrios notwithstanding, this pitching staff is a bona-fide train wreck.
  14. Should have added Berrios to the list, too.
  15. I view a potential 6th year as an opportunity cost to procure a starting pitcher who is every bit as good, if not better, than anyone we now have not named Ervin Santana. If a 6th year is what it eventually takes to get a signature, then I say we should go for it. Of course, that with the understanding that the Darvish link to the Twins wasn't just a negotiating ploy used by his agent.
  16. However, he plays for an upper East coast team. Hence, the bias.
  17. I heard that today was Enns' scheduled start date for Rochester. I suspect that was a big factor in the decision.
  18. While I don't disagree with the assessment, my belief is that most other teams likely view Kintzler as a 7th or 8th inning guy anyway. I have a hard time envisioning another team looking at him as a legitimate closer candidate for their bullpen at this time.
  19. I can't shake the thought that this type of move was made because Falvine appears to waiting for some combination of potentially quality starters (e.g. Gonsalves, Jorge, Romero, Thorpe, Stewart, the 1-1 pick, and ???) and their presumably best bullpen arms (Burdi, Chargois, Jay,Curtiss, etc.) to be healthy and ready to stick with the big club for good. I would imagine that would probably be 2019, or possibly even 2020. They could then join a young core of Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Berrios, and Polanco on what could then become a respectable, contending team. That wouldn't even count the possible addition of some potential quality young non-pitchers that could or should be ready to arrive by about that time frame. If there is even some semblance of truth in this viewpoint, I guess I can live with it.
  20. I could, too. However, I think the better way to deal with this situation would be to leave Polanco at short and let Escobar play second. That way, instead of 2 players at positions they haven't played recently, you'd only have one (Escobar). Who to have as the utility guy can be debated.
  21. While I agree with most of what Thrylos and glunn are saying here and that May needs to take great pains to not overuse this to the point of distraction, I also believe that if he believes that doing this serves as a bit of stress relief, then this isn't necessarily such a bad thing. Unfortunately, because none of us are on the inside and have no real sense of how he will respond to this aspect of his life, I'm going to refrain from making any judgments regarding how the usage of this affects his job as a (starting) pitcher. I only hope that he's mature enough to now when to quit, and/or has enough trustworthy family or friends around him to prevent overuse and the potential adverse effects of doing so.
  22. Any time you can bring fans into a game who otherwise probably wouldn't attend, everyone's theoretically a winner, especially in the world of ballpark concessions. If I lived anywhere even remotely close to Minneapolis, I'd seriously consider taking advantage of this offer. But alas, I can't.
