  1. That's what the 4th catcher is for, silly!
  2. Leave him at SS here. You have to find out if he can play the position in the majors. He has no future in the OF, except as a utility player. If you are serious about improving your defense to win this year then get a real CF here. But all that would be is a charade!
  3. I waffled on Mauer, but did not think his effort on the ball yesterday, or the high throw tag the other day was adequate. Plus I read where most or all of his errors are in like the last 38 games? He could have easily been deleted from the list of miscreants, but I admit I was in an expansive mood!
  4. I must have missed the Twins focus on playing strong defense? (Snarky, sorry). After you replace Arcia, Nunez, Hunter, Hermann and Schafer, then you can consider Santana. Along with him don't forget Suzuki and Mauer. Santana went out and played CF last year, mediocre as it were, quietly and dreadfully out of position. He needs a chance to succeed at SS. If he can you have a SS. If he can't, you can plug replacement level Esobar back in. If this team cannot spend some time auditioning a player, which team could?
  5. I did n I did not know there was a limit? You have me concerned. I was going to,like your post, but now am going to wait to see if there is one more deserving of me!
  6. . It seemed like the wind held it down a little!
  7. He mentored him right into a new position!
  8. . Maybe Manvel is too small to be on the Google?
  9. . Does this mean there won't be a 2 year extension? We could buy out year 41 and 42!
  10. . I made a point similar to this a couple weeks ago, about roster control. But I said it somewhat tongue in cheek. My semi serious take was that Dougy lost out because it would have been very difficult to keep him from wanting his team from last year up here. Maybe I was not so far off? Btw, "business decisions"? Is this Wal Mart? Or MLB?
  11. . The mentoring thing puzzled me for this reason: If you were bringing in a guy, Hunter, to "mentor" then why did every position decision go to players who would not need or benefit from mentoring. The often used joke on TD is that Hunter should be a thousand miles from here, is actually almost a fact. There is no one to mentor. Arcia, maybe? One other thing about Arcia. He is not a good outfielder, no news there. But he is generally far better going to his left. He belongs in RF, in theory he should have help there to his right side, and his arm plays well there.
  12. I tuned in about the 7th inning, and noticed all the empty seats. At first I thought everyone was in line for an alcoholic beverage with a slice of pizza in it? But that might have been an erroneous assumption. I can envision some suburbanite getting home to the spouse and saying, "I just saw the most disgusting thing ever at Target Field". He/she says, "don't tell me you had a pizza drink"? The response, "Well, the drink was bad, but watching the Twins play defense, was disgusting"!
  13. On most teams, when a pitcher gives up a no doubt gopher ball, he is shown reacting by hanging his head in disbelief, or disappointment! When a Twins pitcher gives up any fly ball, his reaction is to hang his head in fear, knowing nothing good can come of this!
  14. You brought up some very interesting points. They might seem minsicule to some, but they make a difference. There is something wrong in Twins Territory. You obviously wrote this before the home opener, but this is as bad as I have ever saw the Twins play. Worse than bad, it's just sloppy!
  15. . I think the number 91 will be in vogue this year again!
  16. I am a big Arcia fan, and a big fan of playing guys with potential over mediocracy. From the outside, watching him it seems he is a little to full of himself. Bringing him to earth might help. Is he pouting because he got jerked around for a 39 yr old? While he shouldn't be, something seems amiss. His AB's are worse than last year. If Molly hit Hunter for him to send a message that's fine. But if he hit this years Hunter for him strategically, that did not improve the teams chances, and only antagonized Arcia. But remember, while Oswaldo seems to have been here forever he is only 23 (?) He will hit sooner or later.
  17. I still think Arcia will hit, but even I am befuddled by his AB's! He swings at pitches so absurdly out of the strike zone that it looks like he completely pre determines when h will swing. While I never have been a big believer in taking a fat strike early, just to work the count, leaving you to hit the pitchers pitch, one has to have some discipline. A rule of thumb, if the catcher has to come out of his crouch to reach the pitch, you probably should not have swung at it! Btw, while Joe West should be doing high school games, I can understand his quick trigger on Hunter. Tori's long history of AB's like the one SO yesterday caused a reflex reaction. If a young player had that AB, he would be termed not ready for the bigs!
  18. I thought that I was climbing a hill in ND once, but it turned out to be the Buxton exit off I29! What really surprised me is that they named a town after him in ND. But I was more surprised there was no Brianville! I do think we should look at the bright side of the Twins season! Just imagine if they were scoring any runs! The games would take forever. OR! The Twins have acquiesced to a request by MLB to limit their scoring to help speed up the games. Think of it, what would you rather see? Another commercial for a pickup truck? Or the Twins scoring a couple useless runs when already down by 7!
  19. According to Ruesse, this is not something you can take by mistake. It's only sold as a vetinarian supplement here. But his column is the only one where I have saw that particular fact, or non fact, whichever it is!
  20. . I totally agree, like Dorothy he will find out quickly he's not in Kansas anymore! Or Detroit!
  21. I don't think Ryan is running the Twins any differently than he ever did! Bring in aging fill in vets to plug a few holes for a team with a few studs that plays in a weak division. And don't forget to allow for the Dome and small revenue model. Fast forward 5 years! No true studs, a total complete pitching collapse, some bad luck, a tired manager, and tons of high draft choices. The problem is your business model has never been about developing a team with talented youth. It has been about being baseballs version of "The Little Engine That Could"
  22. Fine article, but I have one "quibble". Considering the last four years, if after the All Star break, the Twins are competitive, I would be surprised if there would be any significant moves. Not that there shouldn't be, but this orginisation will be so desperate for the illusion of success, that I cannot see them tinkering with something that is semi working.
  23. I never had much luck with filling inside straights, but let's say you are right. If the Twins get on a roll and a pace for 85 wins, several things will happen. The normal glacial pace of change by the FO will slow even more. Not wanting to disrupt a new winning atmosphere the roster will stay as is. The story line will be all about the race for the wild card, or so the story will go. And the Twins would/could/maybe/might end up in third place? Is that what is best for the orginisation going forward? This roster will struggle to make .500. If it doesn't and gets blown up it still won't make .500. But it will be laying the groundwork for the future. And there should not be one decision that this team makes, that does not look to that future!
  24. To me, your last sentence sums up my frustration and aggravation with the Twins decision makers. Potential upside does not appear to be a factor in their thinking at all.
