  1. Thats just not true! Let's see, we have a different SS, and we made a major improvement in RF, and we added a veteran hurler, and we, and we, uh, well let me see? We ah, er, ah! Ok, enough sarcasm. In reality we have basically 7 of the 8 position players from last years underwhelming team, and if you count Milone pitching last year, 4 of the 5 starters from last years bottom of the league staff. What could possibly go wrong. What's that sayimg? "Stupidity is doing the same thing over And over and expecting different results"
  2. . This kind of make you wonder whether there was a battle for the 5th spot? It seems that May and Milone were both about even going into the last game, and both were less than impressive. So as per usual we go with the less talented player, with the least upside? Nothing like matching an extremely low strikeout pitcher, with one of the worst outfields in the game.
  3. Nice article. It's good to read about guys who play just for the fun of it. True they get paid, but it normally would not be enough to make up for the travel and uncertainties. It's the game itself that is the real compensation. I would guarantee that Brock is a guy who will not look back on his life when he gets older and regret his decisions. Did he mention any thoughts on later baseball activities such as coaching, scouting, or heaven forbid umpiring?
  4. She looks remarkably younger than you! :)
  5. I like Rosario, and he definitely has a future here. But he has not really "forced" himself into the lead in CF. On this team at this time I would start Hicks in CF. Hicks has done the up and down thing often enough. He is old enough that it's time to finalize his standing and value. Whatever it may be. It also gives you a respectable, but not great defensive center fielder. Would Shafer be a little better? Maybe, but for him and Robinson there really is no upside. It is what it is. Hicks can go up, but not really down. This team is not contending, so take that chance, back him up with Shafer, and do whatever with Robinson. Rosario goes down for needed experience and waits for the corner OF to shake itself out.
  6. On a more serious side, what impact will it have on BD's value if his HR's drop to single digits? I don't see his HR production as sustainable, since almost all of them come from the same spot in the zone, up and in. I would think that is a relatively easy pitch to avoid throwing.
  7. One other similarity to "Justified" is that Raylan and Brian both have magnificent hair! And quick hands!
  8. "Reading is hard" might have been tongue in cheek, but still is right up there with things someone who writes for a living, should not write! :)
  9. Dozier's love of hitting high inside fastballs down the line could eventually be his undoing. I know taking two and hitting to right has become a Twins cliche, but in his case it might actually be true.
  10. The Twins had several "dependable" players last year. In no order of import, or with intent to demean, they had a dependable catcher, 2B, 3B, SS, 1B, and closer. And if one argues that Santana should stay in CF, you can add that position also. Dependably, they also lost 90+ games again! I am sure they are looking at Santana as having more upside than Escobar. Plus leaving Santana in CF is really a short term solution, with no upside. While I am definitely not a fan of the current pitching staff, they have suffered for several years from a lack of range in both the infield and outfield. If they hit, you can live with a young Arcia in one OF corner, and say a somewhat statuesque Plouffe on an IF corner, but you then have to make up for it in range at the postitions next to them. And I don't think "range" is a term often associated with the current defense.
  11. I am not sure. But I guess I am old school and never saw anything wrong with those rules. In this case something inside the batters box, and below the waist would seem appropriate. At the least make him move his feet, quickly, so he is more responsible with his bat.
  12. Per Jokin: This is usually something that a pitcher could address with (let's say) a fastball in the mouth; quite effective (and in case of Milone's 83 miler, not that bad) That was my first thought when I heard about this. But the Twins have never seemed to be much for protecting their players. Someone else wrote that Perkins was the next pitcher. Whether that affected a retaliatory fastball is open to debate. While I have no doubt Jones is not doing this on purpose, he still needs to be reminded of proper bat etiquette. As to Plouffie playing 1B. While I am not a huge Plouffe fan, if him not playing third means Nunez is going to, I will suddenly become a huge Plouffe fan! .
  13. Since you are new here, I will assume you dont know that it is not nice to refer to another member as "a dirty word" ! :)
  14. I think it should be May. He has the looks of a workhorse type pitcher, with some upside and stability. And hopefully he is part three of the next decent starting rotation. (The last one was a long time ago). Milone is what he is, a "crafty lefty". Crafty is good when your ball is darting just off the edge of the plate. Crafty turns to crappy when it's not! Even if he moderately succeeds as a starter he has no real value as trade bait. Now we turn to Pelfrey. I would put him in the bullpen. He throws hard, has not had a lot of success as a starter, I think is on his last contract year, and is owed a lot of money. I don't agree with the money issue as a determining facto but the FO does, and he is going to be somewhere. I just would not put Milone or May in the pen, and start him. I really think he has his future as a reliever.
  15. As to the non baseball topics in the first part of the article, thank you. You touched on a very important point that everyone should consider far more often. Life is short. It's an old bromide that gets easily ignored, but if one used it when making decisions, ones life would invariably improve over time. Enough of the philosophical, Randy Johnson at 6+ BB/9 at ages 27 and 28? Does anyone think the current Twins regime would allow that from a starter. They get apoplectic at the 4 level.
  16. Your post popped up after my post (tirade) I really hope you are right, and I am wrong. No words would be more happily consumed. But I just don't know where the history is for this to happen. Even in the years we contended we never would pull the pin on a deal or acquisition that would put us over the top.
  17. One of the worst 3 teams in MLB 4 years running, and the only competition is for the #5 starter, the backup catcher, some fill in bullpen arms, the all important last spot on the bench, and while some say there is a fight for CF there will probably not be a winner, just a survivor based mostly on contractural issues. And oddly I could live with this, but only if there was some hope of a major overhaul this summer. I can live with the service time arguments if the plan was to accept sucking for half the year, and then blowing it up. But they will not. We still have no "true" number one, two or three hitter. IMHO. If we did, Molitor would not be jerking around with the order like he is. This is one of the oddest run operations I have seen. I am not sure if it makes me sad, or angry. I do know it makes me very frustrated.
  18. He was by default in 4th place. In no particular order above him: May. Some previous MLB experience, and more control. Milone. Same as May, with more experience and LH Pelfrey. Bigger contract, given a pass because of injuries, and the need to justify trading for him. He really did nothing to change the pecking order, and in essence remained in 4th place. I watched him yesterday, it was painful. It's hard to understand how you can miss the strike zone by that amount, with that much experience. I have been very critical of the Twins reticence to bring up players, but as far as I know the strike zone is more or less in the same place all over. You have to get close enough to it to make a batter make a choice.
  19. I am not sure what Nunez brings to the team? He is not specialized in any particular talent except HLPB (Helmets Lost per Base)! He seems to look more athletic than his athleticism produces. Nothing good really happens when he is out there. If I was going to leave the other Eduardo as the utility guy, then it's time to part ways. I deeply regret having to say this, but due to the current roster construct, I would have EE, Schafer, Pinto, Hermann on the bench, and Hicks getting his last look in CF.
  20. It occurred to me that when someone says Nunez has "surprising power", it's like when someone tells me "you're suprisingly intelligent"! All it means is that he doesn't use his power, and I must not use my brain!
  21. Some seem to think I got off track on the thread, and possibly I did. So to stick soley to the whether I think he should be playing question. Yes of course, and I too would have taken the money and run. I just wish he had done it somewhere else. Do I think Torii should be playing after the trading deadline? Of course, but hopefully it's somewhere else! Do I think Torii can play in '16? Absolutely! But I hope it's somew here else!
  22. I would bet it's Milone. It's a little harder to predict since the regime change, but since TR still makes the final decision I can't see it going another way. Your post gave me an idea for a new site: Frustrated Twins Daily Fans. (FTDF). It's following is sure to grow as the season progresses. .
  23. "Presnt day" and "same situation" are two terms that the Twins should never use. To me the connotations are they are either viewing this team as a team that can win, or that next year nothing has changed. One is an illusion, the other is mind boggling. I understand that normally a one year deal is not a blocker, but in this situation someone should be getting time in the OF after the trading deadline. I don't see Hunter as someone who will be easy to sit down! The bottom line is a team of the future is being run like a team of the present. Nothing good can come from that.
  24. Sadly I agree. Leaving us with the prospect of a non contender, and an outfield spot blocked by a 39? year old.
