    There are two things that should never be used to determine whether to release Mauer, the amount of money he is paid, or in an effort to keep Robbie Grossman. Money? The Pohlads have problems, money isn't one of them. Release Joe, he gets the money anyway. Dozier? I though he was locked in for a few more years? Maybe I am wrong? But if he is, why would we extend a MI into his like 35 yr? As for an effort to keep another player, I could live with Vargas' potential as an argument. But Robbie G. That caused me to skip breakfast. Mauer catches foul pop ups behind screens, Grossman can't catch one 6" not the seats! UGH! If a new GM keeps Robbie around next year, that pretty well explains his emphasis on defense!

    Listening to a national sorts talk radio show many years ago, during a MLB baseball discussion someone was asked who they thought was the most talented player not using his talents to the fullest. The answer was "that's easy, Kent Hrbek"! And Hrbek has admitted since that he wasn't a workaholic by any means. He probably never was called out on it to the extent modern day players are. Less sport talk radio, and no interweb. I always liked Hrbek, and whenever I look at him, I think of what he could have done if he had totally applied himself. Sano has probably far more natural talent. I hope I don't look at him the same way ten years from now.

    That would leave the determination of the critiquers intent up to each readers perception. Oh, wait..................

    Reusse doesn't have to make up stories. He more likely has to decide which ones he wants to share with us, without burning his sources. It's a fine line, that he crosses more often than the other local ink stained wretches. Writing puff pieces like they do, virtually assures you of never being wrong. Reusse has access to GM, coaches, owners, other media members from outside the orginisation, and clubhouse guys. We do not have that luxury. His article was very likely based on the thoughts of a compilation of these sources, not just from himself watching ST. Since I didn't find the article demeaning, nor an attack, maybe the discussion should be phrased thusly: If one doesn't agree with the Curmudgeon on his analysis of Sanos off season practices, do you think that Sano actually did his very best to prepare his body and his mind for the upcoming season as a staple in the middle of the Twins order, and their shiny new RF. If you really do, then one can disagree with his premise. If you cannot say Sano was diligent in the off season, then all that's left is a discussion of to what level you agree with Patrick.

    As to Reusse, while one can argue the tone or format he used, he was essentially correct. I have no doubt his info, and access is somewhat better than mine. And even I had heard from other sources, media of course, that Sano had been doing little during the off season but enjoying himself, and that his efforts to learn RF might even have been considered desultory. While it's true Sano might have come in at 250 and hit .225, the bottom line is he didn't. And while I never thought he would be successful in the OF, he made absolutely sure I was correct by not even trying. He is 23, there's plenty time for him to change. He's always gonna weigh above 260, the big question is what kind of above 260.

    A friend of mine had a son who played a little D2 as a pitcher. We were watching him in a game where he was facing a guy who had a cup of coffee with the Red Sox. He was supposed to IW him, left one on the edge, and the guy hit it over the RF fence. My friend yelled at his son, "when your supposed to throw strikes you throw balls, and when your supposed to throw balls, then you throw strikes". Lol

    I just saw that play. Why is BD trying to tag him 3' from the bag and 2' in the air? Put the ball in front of the bag. Sooner or later they always show up.

    Don't worry the GT continued on at a frenetic pace. The 5 of us had a wonderful time. The line at the DMV was murder, I just got back! Did we win? Btw, while Brock announced GT participants at 23k, there were really only 5. I think he was adding the 2 and the 3!
