  1. Nice opening on the State of the Game Thread. They have been getting a little cranky lately. In 2016 when the Twins totally sucked we had a wonderful time on GT's. And I remember asking, I wonder what happens if the team starts winning. The gallow humor would be gone. And it came to pass. I hope your well thought out, and well written gentle reminder return us to the days of yesteryear.
  2. I hear so much about Gordon, but it's almost all related to his bat. Which of course is important. I hear virtually nothing about his defense.
  3. Dozier had a plunked RF double the other night also on a pitch you could barely reach with canoe paddle. Hopefully he has changed his approach and keeps it up. It appears his days of up and in FB's are over and they would rather walk him with stuff off the plate. He has been particularly susceptible to high outside breaking stuff. That said, the guy the Twins need more than Dozier or Sano is Buxton. He is absolute havoc on the bases, if he gets that far.
  4. Not sure what, or if anything has changed. But May was vociferous about the fact that his arm and apparently back did not mesh well with BP duties. Then again, maybe it was his mind? Either way he has the stuff to dominate out of the pen, but he doesn't seem to have his head wrapped around that idea. Aye if it's his only shot at a MLB roster spot that will change. But if it is truly a physical issue, it won't last long.
  5. I thought replay was going to resolve controversial calls. . I am NOT comparing Rosario to Oliva, with the exception that neither ever saw a pitch that they considered unhittable.
  6. So what is Keplers launch angle this year comparative to other years. Hitting less ground balls definitely improves the number, but there is a difference between GB's, high flys, and hard hit liners. (Using ancient terminology here). Also, I know I am an outlier on this opinion, but trying to reach some mythical number of pitchers per PA seems non productive, unless you are Robbie G. Even Mauer has better success when ahead in the count. Dozier recognized this early. He feasted on early in the count get em over FB's. It took three years for them to stop throwing them to him. If you get your pitch to hit, you better hit it, no matter the count. If you continually work yourself into two strike counts, you end up hitting what the pitcher wants you to hit. This takes plate discipline, something Kepler seems to have. My point being that if you are raking at avout 4.0 pitches per AB, you don't need to see more pitches. Taking strikes doesn't get you more juicy pitches, it gets you less.
  7. Oh my! There's balls and strikes to argue. There's replays that didn't go his way. Maybe during bringing up the lineup card.
  8. ..........anything ending in ee or ey. .
  9. 1) You just have to get over not being invited to the wedding. Originally I felt the same way. But after seeing the the USPS was so busy delivering packages for Amazon for free, it occurred to me that your invite, and mine was lost or delayed in the mail along with others. Apparently the biggest glitch was that many of the invites in the entire Washington DC area were lost. 2) What happens when Cleveland wakes up? They are probably lamenting the fact that they don't get to feast on the rest of the AL Central. Whoops, that includes us! 3) I do hope Gardy gets tossed at least once in the series, for old times sake. Btw, it's not fair, Detroit has three catchers, and we can't find even one?
  10. I always admire a man who admits his plan is not foolproof. because none are.
  11. We tried sharing a ribeye on the grill, but just once. It was too crowded and it left grill marks on my butt!
  12. It's apparent that most of the people entering ND from MN start drinking in Fargo and Grand Forks in an attempt to dull the pain on the westward trek through the vast wasteland.
  13. Build the Wall..... Build the Wall.... Wisconsin will pay for it. .
  14. Took the bike over to Milwaukee one year for one of the border battle games. They do know how to party in the parking lot there. And grill! It was a good time, Twins were down a lot of the game, the natives were very very drunk and boisterous. The Twins came back late in the game to win it. While a lot of the Brewer fans were unhappy they lost, most of those around us likely didn't realize that fact until the next morning.
  15. A year ago this post would have been silly. No offense. . But it's a legitimate question now. The problem is you would need to get a really good catcher to make it sensible, and frankly I don't think this years version of Sano will bring that value. The Twins are really stuck in a difficult place with Sano, and in general this team. Sanos potential is too good to trade, but his performance isn't good enough to get anything such as an everyday catcher. The team offense is barely average, the teams pitching screams average, and the defense is average. I really had hoped for more. While it could be a decent team, competitive in its own division that's sort of sad. In reality we are less than a year from finding out that this is all this group ever will be. Ugh! But that isn't what I expected at this time. I just hope I am wrong, but the clock is definitely ticking away, with no real improvement.
  16. Since the question was based on who goes in the event nothing else changes, it would most likely be Magill. If it's not him it will probably be Romero. If its not Magill you have Lynn and Hughes in the pen, and Molitor will truly burn up the front end of the pen. Btw, kudos to the poster who pointed out the bad math trying to get by with a 6 man rotation. You still need the same size BP, and then your bench is really short.
  17. I am not a Garver the Catcher fan, but I don't think he is a flop. He is a hitter who can catch, barely. He is, I think, 27? And still doesn't have the mechanics down on how to block pitches. I do think he can easily hit well enough to be a MLB player. But he is in a premier defensive position, and he would have to hit a lot more to make up for his lack of defense. While I think shifting has somewhat changed the qualities needed in middle IF'ers, there isn't any shifting in the catching spot. You still have to be able to receive, block and throw.
  18. I know they are called wild pitches for a reason. But your catcher is supposed to turn them into just a lousy pitch. I wonder how many wild pitches have advanced runners into scoring position with Garver behind the plate. He can throw a little, and hit a little. But his glove work and blocking skills are absolutely brutal!
  19. You used the words "wife" and "binding agreement" in the same sentence? Normally I would have considered this the delirious statement of a newly married. The problem with that theory is that you mentioned having children, and that some old married guy wanted a copy of that unicornish document! This is even more confusing than watching the Twins (not) hit off of LaBlanc.
  20. I didn't think so, he was going to his left and it seemed like they did what they could. The guy just beat it.
  21. We morphed to the DH and 154 games to 162. Both of these moves changed the game and the record books. I could live with 7 innings easily. Plus I loved his take on SO's and the Home Run Derby. Somehow baseball has to shorten it's game length. Kaat was easily the best color guy I ever listened to. Period.
  22. IIRC Dozier had a pretty bad end to 2015? I am sure someone will look it up. It was followed by a pretty bad start to 2016 also. So he had the whole season covered. Brian Dozier is an excellent mistake FB hitter. In his case, the mistake is middle up, and preferably inner half. Basically the inner, upper quadrant. So I have been surprised for years that they just did not spend more time forcing him to either walk or hit their pitch. I think this explains his love of the leadoff spot. Lots of get em over FB in that spot. It's the same reason I think the calls for him to hit 3-4 are mistaken. 3-4 hitters don't get those kinds of FB's as often. The mention of patience is correct. It's not the same as patience for Rosario though. Dozier loves hitting HR's. I suppose most do. But he doesn't have "hit any pitch over the fence" power. His is fairly localized. It's going to be frustrating not to see pitches in his zone, and is going to tempt him to try and do more to the wrong pitch than he can. I have noticed him going the other way with some pitches, but not enough to scare anyone.
  23. I tried something similar years ago for a toothache. Motrin, beer, more beer, and I think a vodka tonic. I got violently ill, threw up like never before or since, fell asleep and woke up with both eyes swollen shut. But the tooth ache was al gone. See! It works!
  24. I never knew Casey delved that deeply into the game? . Frankly I wasn't quoting him as I had no idea he said that, or any part of it. The observation is age old, and I for one would always prefer to be the team with the good pitchers.
