  1. Oh my! There's balls and strikes to argue. There's replays that didn't go his way. Maybe during bringing up the lineup card.
  2. ..........anything ending in ee or ey. .
  3. 1) You just have to get over not being invited to the wedding. Originally I felt the same way. But after seeing the the USPS was so busy delivering packages for Amazon for free, it occurred to me that your invite, and mine was lost or delayed in the mail along with others. Apparently the biggest glitch was that many of the invites in the entire Washington DC area were lost. 2) What happens when Cleveland wakes up? They are probably lamenting the fact that they don't get to feast on the rest of the AL Central. Whoops, that includes us! 3) I do hope Gardy gets tossed at least once in the series, for old times sake. Btw, it's not fair, Detroit has three catchers, and we can't find even one?
  4. I always admire a man who admits his plan is not foolproof. because none are.
  5. We tried sharing a ribeye on the grill, but just once. It was too crowded and it left grill marks on my butt!
  6. It's apparent that most of the people entering ND from MN start drinking in Fargo and Grand Forks in an attempt to dull the pain on the westward trek through the vast wasteland.
  7. Build the Wall..... Build the Wall.... Wisconsin will pay for it. .
  8. Took the bike over to Milwaukee one year for one of the border battle games. They do know how to party in the parking lot there. And grill! It was a good time, Twins were down a lot of the game, the natives were very very drunk and boisterous. The Twins came back late in the game to win it. While a lot of the Brewer fans were unhappy they lost, most of those around us likely didn't realize that fact until the next morning.
  9. A year ago this post would have been silly. No offense. . But it's a legitimate question now. The problem is you would need to get a really good catcher to make it sensible, and frankly I don't think this years version of Sano will bring that value. The Twins are really stuck in a difficult place with Sano, and in general this team. Sanos potential is too good to trade, but his performance isn't good enough to get anything such as an everyday catcher. The team offense is barely average, the teams pitching screams average, and the defense is average. I really had hoped for more. While it could be a decent team, competitive in its own division that's sort of sad. In reality we are less than a year from finding out that this is all this group ever will be. Ugh! But that isn't what I expected at this time. I just hope I am wrong, but the clock is definitely ticking away, with no real improvement.
  10. Since the question was based on who goes in the event nothing else changes, it would most likely be Magill. If it's not him it will probably be Romero. If its not Magill you have Lynn and Hughes in the pen, and Molitor will truly burn up the front end of the pen. Btw, kudos to the poster who pointed out the bad math trying to get by with a 6 man rotation. You still need the same size BP, and then your bench is really short.
  11. I am not a Garver the Catcher fan, but I don't think he is a flop. He is a hitter who can catch, barely. He is, I think, 27? And still doesn't have the mechanics down on how to block pitches. I do think he can easily hit well enough to be a MLB player. But he is in a premier defensive position, and he would have to hit a lot more to make up for his lack of defense. While I think shifting has somewhat changed the qualities needed in middle IF'ers, there isn't any shifting in the catching spot. You still have to be able to receive, block and throw.
  12. I know they are called wild pitches for a reason. But your catcher is supposed to turn them into just a lousy pitch. I wonder how many wild pitches have advanced runners into scoring position with Garver behind the plate. He can throw a little, and hit a little. But his glove work and blocking skills are absolutely brutal!
  13. You used the words "wife" and "binding agreement" in the same sentence? Normally I would have considered this the delirious statement of a newly married. The problem with that theory is that you mentioned having children, and that some old married guy wanted a copy of that unicornish document! This is even more confusing than watching the Twins (not) hit off of LaBlanc.
  14. I didn't think so, he was going to his left and it seemed like they did what they could. The guy just beat it.
  15. We morphed to the DH and 154 games to 162. Both of these moves changed the game and the record books. I could live with 7 innings easily. Plus I loved his take on SO's and the Home Run Derby. Somehow baseball has to shorten it's game length. Kaat was easily the best color guy I ever listened to. Period.
  16. IIRC Dozier had a pretty bad end to 2015? I am sure someone will look it up. It was followed by a pretty bad start to 2016 also. So he had the whole season covered. Brian Dozier is an excellent mistake FB hitter. In his case, the mistake is middle up, and preferably inner half. Basically the inner, upper quadrant. So I have been surprised for years that they just did not spend more time forcing him to either walk or hit their pitch. I think this explains his love of the leadoff spot. Lots of get em over FB in that spot. It's the same reason I think the calls for him to hit 3-4 are mistaken. 3-4 hitters don't get those kinds of FB's as often. The mention of patience is correct. It's not the same as patience for Rosario though. Dozier loves hitting HR's. I suppose most do. But he doesn't have "hit any pitch over the fence" power. His is fairly localized. It's going to be frustrating not to see pitches in his zone, and is going to tempt him to try and do more to the wrong pitch than he can. I have noticed him going the other way with some pitches, but not enough to scare anyone.
  17. I tried something similar years ago for a toothache. Motrin, beer, more beer, and I think a vodka tonic. I got violently ill, threw up like never before or since, fell asleep and woke up with both eyes swollen shut. But the tooth ache was al gone. See! It works!
  18. I never knew Casey delved that deeply into the game? . Frankly I wasn't quoting him as I had no idea he said that, or any part of it. The observation is age old, and I for one would always prefer to be the team with the good pitchers.
  19. Generally teams with better pitching are more consistent, and play games closer to the vest. Teams built on offense are more streaky. And they didn't invent the phrase "good pitching beats good hitting" for no reason. Over the long haul I always go with pitching and defense. When the Twims are hitting like the last few games they will punish teams. But they continue you their recent history of being an all or nothing offense. When they get rolling everyone hits, but when it's a bleak day they really do not seem to have someone to pick them up. I know some of that is just basebal, but they seem to have perfected it.
  20. There have been a lot worse ideas posted on TD than this one. I know, I posted some of them. . This idea sort of solves a few issues all at once. I have never believed EE to be able to play SS in MLB full time. He just doesn't have the range. And normally I wouldn't think he has the power for a prototypical 3B. But right now he is far more dangerous than Sano, with more defense. And a switch hitter. Despite the bigger offensive names the Twins have on their roster, he is still likely the one I would want up in a clutch situation. At least he won't try and hit a 3 run HR with someone on second. In the past I always thought the more his bat was exposed, the less he hit. But he seems to have worked past that.
  21. Some guys just float through their careers on talent. Hrbek was one, by his own admission. He told my Carrier guy at a company function that he never worked at the game, just played, and likely could have been better, but just enjoyed the game in his own fashion. There is nothing actually wrong with that, but leaves a few "what ifs"? When Herbie was in the prime of his career I was listening to a national sports talk show, and they were discussing which MLB player did not play up to the peak his abilities. Herbie was on the top of the list. That said he has had a good life, just as is. As for Sano? I would DH him, mostly to cut down on the chances of injury. I doubt his "health" will improve this summer, and then make a decision over the winter based on how he approaches his "health" issue. Maybe you can play MLB baseball in an "unhealthy" condition but the odds are poor.
  22. Things change. 6 weeks ago Berrios was the staff ace. Now he is a #3 and someone who has pitched 11 innings is the staff ace. Things change.
  23. This! This! This! A point on the shift. It's diminished the value and entertainment of watching an elite SS. And a good catcher throwing to second was always fun to watch. I am sure there are fans who like this new brand of ball? Maybe it's generational, maybe the young fans do? But I don't. I don't really mind the RP, and the strategy of their use. And I can also see the effort to combat the shift with long fly balls. But I agree totally with you on the matter of whether this is good for the fan or not. And for this fan it's not.
  24. The thought has suddenly occurred to me. What if the Twins have finally discovered their competitive level.
