    And they have 7 BP guys with 34+ appearances. Basically 12 of 13 pitcher spots covered all season, and only 2 of those spots have an ERA over 4.00. Call me skeptical, but I don't see this continuing all season (and I just saw that Herrin was placed on the IL on the 9th).

    In May he had 24.1 IP over 5 starts, in June he had 28.1 IP over 5 starts. I don't see him getting anymore starts in July, so if he is effective and gets 50 IP over August and September that puts him around 130 IP for the season I think that's a success. If the team makes the play-offs he's going to be a reliever or left off of the roster.

    2023 Diamondbacks were 84-78, stumbled their way into the play-offs and wound up losing in the WS. They had 2 decent starters, acquired their closer at the trade deadline and were led by ROY Corbin Carrol - mediocre teams can and have done well in the play-offs, you just have to get there... Jeffers is not getting $20 MM a year in any reality. The market will dictate what Ryan gets, if the team feels he worth what that market dictates, they will make an offer. Again, Buxton is not going anywhere....

    Ryan - Should not be traded, too many question marks in next year's rotation, Lopez, Abel, and Festa will be coming off of injuries, Matthews and Prielipp have had mixed results, and there isn't anybody I see at AAA knocking the door down (or even knocking on the door, for that matter). Jeffers - If they get the offer they want, trade him, if not keep him. Do not trade him just for the sake of trading him. He's not blocking anyone, there is no C at AAA or AA that should be called up. Bell - Same as Jeffers, if you get an acceptable offer, take it. The team can't really afford a DH only type player, but Shelton seems to have figured out the defensive alignment, and sits Bell only if he feels Buxton needs a day off in the field. As long as he is producing, keep him here. Larnach - Should be made available, but only if the team falls out of contention over the next 2 1/2 weeks. He's producing as the strong side platoon bat, and his fielding is passable right now. He won't bring back a big return, probably a High A or AA player, but could be an interesting add-on in a Jeffers or Bell trade. Buxton - NOT GOING ANYWHERE, he's said it, the team has said it....

    2 BP additions are rehabbing right now, Sands and Acton. They just added Nance, Anderson, and Go, and recalled Rojas. Maybe more importantly they've demoted/DFAd Orze, Laweryson, Voth and Lawrence, among others - addition through subtraction. If recent performance from Rogers, Funderburk and Adams can hold through the end of the season the BP can actually become a strength (wishful thinking, I know).

Timetable to come after followup evaluation. (Last updated: July 10) More >> Nothing in that paragraph states that the team expects him to miss the rest of the season. The length of injury and the need for a roster spot necessitated the move from the 15 day IL to 60 day IL.

    I don't think the Twins offer Jeffers the QO for the simple fact that Jeffers will take it. He's going to get about $12 MM/year, maybe 3/$36 MM, as the last few years have shown that catchers fall off pretty fast after age 32, if not sooner.

    Well, the talk is about whether Lackey, not Tinney, is near or equal to Jenkins. No one has claimed Tinney as being even a top 30 team prospect yet.

    Tait becomes Rule 5 eligible in '27, at age 21. Lackey is already 21. No team will take Tait in the MLB portion but I would bet he will get picked in the MiLB portion, he will have to be added to the 40-man after next season, depending on the new labor agreement.

    I have no problem demoting Gray and keeping Jackson as the 13th man. I don't know if he can play out there anymore, he is listed at 6-1, 238, but Jackson was drafted as an OF by Seattle and was moved to C by Atlanta. IF Jackson can still play RF/LF, C, DH & PH I think he warrants the last bench spot.

    Shelton said on the radio yesterday that Sands was going to be sent to Florida to keep working over the break, they are the only team with games over the All-Star break.

    Kaelen Culpepper and Walker Jenkins are not on the 40-man and don't need to be added until after the '27 season. Both have missed time and could probably benefit from staying at AAA for the rest of '26. Emma will be out of options next season, the team needs to see what he has this season, even it is only for the month of September. CJ Culpepper can stay at AAA, but will have to be added to the 40-man or will be subject to the Rule 5 draft again. That decision can wait until after the season. The clock has started on Roden (1 option left next season), Gonazalez (2), Mendez (2), and Fedko (2), so that means decisions will have to made concerning Larnach, Martin, and Wallner, and, to a lesser extent, Clemens. Those last 4 will all be out of options next year. I don't see any SP options being recalled this year, but the clock is ticking on a few guys, some of whom are on the IL right now and won't be able to improve their status. As long as the team is in contention (even if only on paper), I think they hold onto Ryan this year.

    Yeah, it turned out OK, but it's the 8th inning, the team has both challenges left, and Trout at the plate. Have to go 100% all the time, or so I'm told.

    I agree that players should not "admire" any of their hits, look at it on video later. It is reasonable for a player to assume a comebacker to the pitcher is going to be fielded, he had barely even made his first step towards 1B and the ball hit the pitchers glove. He saw it roll away and hustled to 1B, making it a close play.

    Presume what, a catch by Soriano? Fairly reasonable by most batter-runners (he's not a speedster). Once he saw the ball bounce away he hustled down the line. As far as getting caught at 3B, that was an incredibly lucky bounce and catch.

    At this point with their offensive production (read that how you will) being equally horrible right now, I play Kreidler every day because his glove is that much better than Gray's.

    I've noticed that a lot of posters, especially posters with a low post count, seem to value WAR and other metrics that can be misleading. I was just pointing out to the OP that WAR values vary from site to site.

    Depends where you look: fWAR - Keaschall 1.0, Martin 0.8 bWAR - Martin 1.1, Keaschall 0.7

    Looking at current (and some past) C contracts, the big money most of them got was in extensions, buying out 2 or 3 years of arbitration and 2 to 4 years of FA, effectively paying them well from roughly age 27 through 34, because, as stated, C generally don't age well also don't hit FA until about 30 years old, generally the start of the decline. Maybe Boras, or Jeffers himself, did not do him any favors not signing an extension before hitting FA. I still think that with 3 or 4 teams looking for C help down the stretch the Twins can get a decent return for him.
