    Varland is firmly entrenched as a HR-prone reliever now. His ERA was 4.94 to finish the season with Toronto, so he did not perform well. Despite setting a record for appearances in the play-offs, he gave up 4 HR in 16 IP and had an ERA of 3.94, not bad but not elite. What makes you think Ryan is immensely unhappy? He was upset the team didn't re-sign Gray, but other than that I didn't see anything stating he was unhappy.

    My guess is that Buxton is "willing to waive" the no-trade clause means that Falvey and Buxton have discussed the possibility and have agreed that any deal has to be beneficial to both team and player; Falvey has to get a good return first, even then if Buxton doesn't want to go to that team - no deal. Buxton picks a team he wants to go to if they can't meet Falvey's request - no deal. Other team sweetens the pot, but asks for more players from Twins that Falvey doesn't want to part with - no deal. Nothing to see hear other than that the national sports media doesn't think that smaller market teams should have nice toys...

    Buxton can pick and choose where he wants to go, thus limiting the return.

    Maybe, maybe not. The truth of the matter, whether we as fans like it or not, is that Prielipp is going to be on an innings limit this year and probably next. I would rather he get those innings at Target Field instead of CHS Field. If that means he has to pitch out of the 'pen, then so be it. He won't be the first young SP to get his MLB service time started there.

    He didn't out-and-out say it, but strongly hinted at it. Per John Stevenson at Fan Recap: Minnesota’s broader strategy: build a bullpen from within, using arms that might not have stuck as starters but could thrive in shorter bursts. President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey hinted at this approach last week at the GM meetings in Las Vegas. He pointed to Prielipp and Marco Raya-another high-upside arm already on the 40-man-as potential bullpen contributors. “You see Connor Prielipp throw the way he can at times, you see Marco Raya throw the way he has,” Falvey said. “I’m excited about that group in aggregate.”

    I agree that the best players should be playing, however the guys making playing time decisions with the Twins do not. That and this team has several young players that have not been given the chance to adjust after the league makes adjustments, especially players that have come from other systems. I 100% hope Martin is the opening day LF and is given the chance to play 145 games out there, but I think the Twins are hoping he's Willie Castro 2.0 and want to play him all over the diamond. As far as batting him lead-off; no, that's Buxton's spot, and his best numbers have come out of that that spot. Martin batting 9th could be a nice weapon ahead of Buxton as pitchers might be more willing to pitch to him instead of Buxton.

    If it is one of or a platoon between the two, Roden (LH) and/or Martin (RH) fit the 9 spot in line-up better than the 2 spot (that's where Keaschall should be). Outman profiles a little higher in the line-up, 6th or 7th with his power and higher K rate, but batting him 9th IF he earns the spot also works.

    Career slash lines of 2 players: Player A: .243/.329/.421 (.750 OPS) 101 OPS+. Arb est. $4.5 M Player B: .241/.323/.403 (.726 OPS) 101 OPS+ Arb est $4.7 M They are basically the same player, but one is desired by TD in a trade, and one TD thinks should be DFA'd....

    He is basically league average by both OPS+(99) and wRC+(101), and we don't know that he will cost $5 MM, that's one projection ($4.7 MM actually), I saw somewhere else that his projected salary could be $3.5 MM. That being said, I think his numbers can be replicated by a younger, cheaper player, but maybe the Twins offered him a contract to keep him on the roster to get some sort of return in a trade, unlike when they cut Rosario and allowed him to leave via FA. Time will tell.

    Using wRC+, Larnach is roughly equal to Alec Bohm, Luis Arraez, Xander Bogaerts, Mookie Betts, Paul Goldschmidt, Teoscar Hernandez, Gavin Lux, Trevor Story, and Miguel Vargas, among others. New age stats don't lie!!

    Wallner had 22 HR in 392 PA, Clemens 19 HR in 379 PA (386 PA if you count his time in PHI).....
