  1. This years team has been terrible defensively; a lot of errors (physical and mental), misplayed balls that could have been called errors, throws to the wrong base, missed cut-off men, etc... This then makes me wonder if the pitchers are unable to relax on the mound, trying to be too perfect, not pitching "loose." Constantly throwing from the stretch, having to throw extra pitches, trying to make the perfect pitch to get the strike out, etc... could be hindering their development. We are seeing a lot of bad pitching seasons here.
  2. I think they keep him as a mentor/on field coach for Miranda. I also think they work out some sort of rotation @ 3B, 1B, DH and LF/RF with Sano (who I personally would like to see traded), Donaldson, Miranda, Kirilloff and Larnach. Days off and positional flexibility may help keep everyone on the field and performing.
  3. 7 inning game, still need to go 5 to get the win? Can't wait for this to be done, as well as the runner on second rule for extra innings.
  4. Go look at Baseball Savant, Nelson was inconsistent with close pitches, at best. There were some clearly outside the zone called strikes, and the pitches around the strike zone box were very inconsistent.
  5. Was thinking to myself during the game that Benintendi was killing the Twins this year, so I looked his numbers up. He is!! .405/.422/.833 slash line with 5 HR's and 15 RBI in 12 games
  6. I don't care if a pitcher is 21 or 41, if he gets the job done he deserves a spot. The kids should be up starting September 1, hope the team has a development plan in place.
  7. At this point, I would be comfortable with the team DFA'ing him right now. It may not send a positive message to potential FA's, but he has not performed at a level anywhere near worthy of being on an MLB roster at this point.
  8. If the team is evaluating talent moving forward, I would have much rather seen Astudillo sent to AAA as I don't feel he has a future with this team.
  9. I would go after Syndergaard, but I think the Mets will re-sign him. The other 4 are going to be out of the teams price range, but offers should still be extended. The only guys signing for two years are older vets, and they would more than likely look at a team that is for sure contending over those two years. I see the Twins signing the likes of Steven Matz, Zach Davies, Alex Cobb, Brett Anderson or Tyler Anderson.
  10. Shoot for the moon. Berrios is looking to get paid as #1 or #2 when he's really a #3. Ask a high price and stick to it. If another team really wants him, they'll pony up.
  11. How about something outside the box, maybe 3/$66M with performance incentives to trigger each successive year. They just have to agree on the number of years. And maybe after year 5 there could be an opt-out so he can try FA again at age 34. He gets paid handsomely and if he manages to stay healthy and/or perform on the field gets long-term security ($$$). Don't know if the MLBPA would go for a deal like this but I think it could work well for both sides.
  12. My lip reading skills may need help, but Donaldson appears to ask Arraez what he was looking at. Similar to what you ask a 9 year old playing Cal Ripken level who sees his younger sibling eating ice cream and would rather be doing that than standing at second base waiting for the play to start. These guys heads need to be in the game at all times, case in point the Mets yesterday arguing about a fair ball call while 3 runs scored. There have been many other cases of MLB players looking lost or not ready to make a play this season. There are more aspects to this game than just hitting. Lost season or not, I will side with the veteran here.
  13. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/07/twins-reportedly-disinclined-to-trade-players-controllable-beyond-2021.html
  14. How is Donaldson not earning his playing time? Of qualified 3B, he has the 5th highest OPS, 3rd highest ISO, 3rd best AB/HR, 3rd best BB/K, 2nd BB% and 7th best SO%. I think his numbers have earned him his playing time.
  15. Donaldson may or may not be tradeable because of his contract and injury concerns, but I would wait until the off-season to look into trading him. He is currently sidelined with a nagging injury and that will be fresh on teams minds when discussing returns. What I would look into doing is something like this; Trade Simmons, he is a plus defender and should bring a decent prospect. An infield of Kirilloff, Arraez, Polanco and Donaldson would be in place for the rest of the year. IF Miranda continues his hot AAA start, bring him up to be the utility guy, he has played all infield positions in the minors this year. Keep Gordon up as another utility guy, he has played passable defense at 2B & CF. A Cruz trade or Sano trade/release are subjects for another topic.
  16. This..... the Twins likely need to go at least 10-4
  17. I guess it sounds that way, but no. I would like see players and coaches be more aggressive, especially early in the game. Keep the defense on their toes, make them make plays. I am not a fan of station to station baseball or coasting into a base anticipating that the play is over. Run hard, anticipate the bad throw or missed catch. I couldn't tell by the replay how hard Larnach rounded third, or if he even did until the ball deflected off of Arraez. I am just saying he needs to run hard and both he and Diaz need to anticipate the bad throw/missed catch.
  18. Normally I would say no as players are usually caught up in the moment, but after watching the replay I would agree. However, Larnach needs to recognize what's going on also and anticipate a bad throw. I couldn't tell by the replay I saw if he rounded the base hard or if he pulled up thinking the play was over. It looked like he was about 1/3 of the way home and Diaz put up the stop sign. I understand it was the 1st inning, but you gotta make Cleveland make a play there. I will gladly take "hustle" outs when trying to spark a rally.
  19. I don't think keeping Eddie around for another year would have helped this team, and I am a Rosario fan. Larnach and Kirilloff are getting valuable repetitions because of his absence and this should help going forward. And plays like last nights play at second would have been all to common.
  20. Looking back at last winters FA relievers, there aren't very many pitching very well and there are quite a few out for the season or who have missed big chunks of time. FA is crapshoot at best, especially with pitching. Nobody saw this big of a fall off from Maeda, though he has time to turn it around, or Pineda getting hurt. Happ is a bit of a disappointment, but not much was expected of Shoemaker, who may have found a spot in the BP. Sano's fall off is also highly disappointing, as are the injuries to just about everyone. I believe Simmons was originally signed as a bridge to Lewis, but things happen. I like one year of Simmons, not sure if I like two. To put this year completely on the front office is unjust, only so many players can be signed/traded for. The personnel on the field has to perform.
  21. Twins won 2 WS with Dazzle Man Dan Gladden in LF..... And if you go back in time HOF Goose Goslin manned LF for the Senators.
  22. With Buxton and Kepler due back and Gordon showing (so far) he can handle MLB pitching, and Garver due back in July, I would for sure entertain offers for Cruz and Simmons. I don't think Sano will draw any interest, but DFAing him should also be considered. The everyday line-up could look something like this: C - Jeffers, 1B - Kirilloff, 2B - Arraez, SS - Polanco, 3B - Donaldson, LF - Larnach, CF - Buxton, RF - Kepler, DH - Garver. Bench players would be Gordon, Astudillo, Refsnyder, and take your pick of Garlick/Rooker/Riddle or whoever may have been acquired in one of the trades.
  23. Until he does and they don't.....
