  1. I'm not sure 'only' is being used properly there, but your point is made.
  2. Final numbers on Sam Darnold are 14-3, 4,300 yards, 35 TDs, and a 102.5 rating and 60.7 QBR. As bad as the last two games were, those are pretty solid numbers and he's still young - the same age as Kyler Murray and only a year older than Tua. So the options are: 1) Let him walk 2) sign him to a team friendly bridge deal - something like Baker Mayfield did with TB after going 9-8 4,000 yards, 28 TDs, 94.6 rating and 55.1 QBR. 3) tag him for about 41m to be a bridge QB next year to ease McCarthy in/or trade during pre-season based on injuries around the league. 4) tag him for about 41m to be the QB for next year and listen to trade offers on McCarthy. 5) tag and trade. I have to think the Vikings and his agent will be working the phone to find a sign and trade type deal. It would be tough to let him just walk, I would think. Teams that need a QB - Jets, Miami?, Steelers, Browns, Titans, Raiders, Giants, Saints, Panthers, Rams (if Stafford retires), Seahawks? (Smith is 35), 49ers? (if they can't get something done with Purdy?). Anyway, I think #5 is the most likely with #3 next. With all our cap space, I don't think we can just let him walk and get nothing back (do we get draft compensation if he leaves?).
  3. Obviously.
  4. It could be nerves. (Herbert played worse for the Chargers, Love also played ... poorly). But it could also be bad adjustments or play-calling. On the fourth and 2, Jefferson tripped and all the other receivers were running ten yards up field. I don't think the Vikings were ready for the pressure in both these games, Darnold got knocked down, starts to press, vicious cycle forms, presses more, doesn't see the receivers, presses more, starts worrying about his next contract, etc. He did a great job of coming out of that midseason and played great against the Packers and Seahawks. He did look somewhat better after the game got away and I appreciated his toughness on his long run. But, yeah, bummer the Darnold from those games didn't show up.
  5. Maybe to keep this on topic, the Vikings are actually in a pretty good spot. They'll have to fix the IOL - Trey Smith is gonna get a lot of money but we might pay him. And they'll need to add a few people to the secondary but the roster is pretty set and the places that need upgrading are obvious. I posted some of the free agents in the other thread but I suspect the Vikings will make a splash there. I do hope the Vikings bring in another offensive mind though (I'd like to steal someone from Buffalo, Baltimore or Cincy). I thought KOC was outcoached two weeks in a row and didn't do well on adjusting to what was happening. He's a great coach but he needs someone in his ear b/c he doesn't seem to know when he's failing, too.
  6. Believe it or not, the Super Bowl wasn't as big a deal back then as it is today. It was really the Chiefs win and, especially, Nameth's (sp) win in Super Bowl's 3 and 4 (and the merger after 4) that made it bigger. I don't think it was even called the super bowl at first.
  7. You haven't been here all year, but, sadly, you're likely to be here all off-season, harping again. To keep it civil - which is very difficult - I'll just say that your views are solidly in the minority for a reason and I hope you step on a lego.
  8. sigh This is just a fan narrative that makes the losses feel better. Also, you have to exclude professional women's sports and men's college hockey to make it work. The most likely reason is simple - ****** ownership and less resources than other teams. Men's hockey rules in MN so our colleges have a ton of talent to take from and have won the frozen four like 11 times since 2010. Women's basketball doesn't have to compete against massive payroll disadvantages that several of our teams have. Other than the Vikings (who are in a period of good ownership now but have had bad ownership in the past), I don't think any of our other teams have had good owners in forty years. (Also, for your crazy theory, you should've argued that our teams overachieve so that they get put into places they aren't suited for. These Vikings should have won 6 games and got a top 15 pick. Instead, they won 14 and went to the playoffs).
  9. Yeah, whenever something bad happens, you poke your head out and say "i told you so." I mean, 6 games out of 53 is the deciding factor. Amazing analysis.
  10. Well, rough way to end it but a really nice season. I will say this about Darnold, at least he won't throw to the checkdown on 4th and 8.
  11. No,I expected this. Viking fans are bipolar
  12. Man, this thread is exactly what I figured it would be.
  13. Well, sure. But you and I completely disagree on what was "there" in the first place. But he's had bad games before and bounced back. Ideally, he has a great game for us tonight.
  14. I imagine Johnson is #1 and then coaches will fall. But every team probably thinks he's the coach for them. He's gonna get paid.
  15. I'm really interested to see how KOC is going to deal with blitzes tonight. It's pretty clear that the all-out blitzes that Detroit sent were tough to deal with. But other teams - Arizona in particular - had real success on blitzing up the middle. With their good edge rushers, any pressure up the middle will be difficult to escape from. KOC might need to call more plays that don't have our receivers taking so much time to develop.
  16. Not fired, his contract ran out.
  17. McCarthy had a bit more success in Dallas than I remembered. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/43398409/source-mike-mccarthy-not-expected-return-cowboys-coach Someone will hire him. I think he's a good coach to get your team from unprofessional to professional but probably can't get a team to make the leap in the playoffs.
  18. Interesting free agent class this offseason, and really good for the Vikings. Here's a few lists - https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-2025-nfl-free-agent-rankings https://www.bleacherreport.com/articles/10149530-2025-nfl-free-agency-big-board-ranking-top-50-players-before-wild-card-weekend The Vikings have done a good job clearing cap space so they should be able to plug a few holes in free agency. Keep in mind that these lists are pretty subjective and it's more how the player fits in a scheme than their ranking. Van Ginkle wasn't a huge free agent last season but turned out really well. * KC's guard - Trey Smith - would look great on our offensive line. He'll be expensive - probably 21m+/year. * I want the Vikings to resign Murphy and we'll get back Blackmon but the secondary will still need free agents. Fortunately, there are a lot of really good corners on market. Find one or two that fit Flores scheme. * Dre Greenlaw could be a steal in free agency. He's still not all the way back from that injury but would might be a good upgrade over Pace and give some depth to the linebacking group. * Lastly, there's some smoke on the internet already that Miami's safety Jevon Holland will be reunited with Flores.
  19. Well, I think we'll win - we are the better team. I'm worried, but we should win and then a road game to Philly.
  20. Not sure we really need a five part look at this POS. As others said, may he rot.
  21. Pretty insulting touchdown there. Couldn't happen to a more deserving team.
  22. He is. But the NFL can really make you look bad, occasionally.
  23. He fumbled and wasn't clear he recovered. Ball was moving.
  24. Philly is just better. Tough matchup.
