  1. He's still #1 on mlb.com's list, which updates. The rest we'll have to wait on. But, other than possibly Seager, I can't really see anyone being ranked ahead of him when all the lists start coming out this offseason. He hit .305/.357/.500 in the minors this year despite having missed nearly all of last year and never playing at AA or AAA before.
  2. What? Buxton's probably the #1 prospect in baseball.
  3. I thought we could try and rank what are tradeable assets. Even assuming that Buxton and Sano are untradeable, the Twins have a nice system if they wanted to make a splash, including at least 4 top 100 prospects (potentially more) and some young, cost controlled ML talent. I tried ranking them in tiers instead of numbers but that's not perfect either. Tier 1 - these are the assets that most teams would clearly love to have as they are young and already capable in the high minors or low payroll on the ML rosters. If we want a guy like Lucroy, for example, one of these is probably going back. Gibson, Dozier, Berrios and Kepler. Tier 2 - a notch below but pretty good - top 100 prospects and cost controlled talent on the ML roster. Gordon, Jay, Polanco, Plouffe, Rosario, Hicks. Tier 3 - Might have lost some luster but still valuable but limited - Meyer, Stewart, Hughes (if deemed healthy), May Tier 4 - good enough to be the centerpiece in a small secondary type deal (ie the deal you hope isn't the Twins big splash) - Duffey, Milone, Gonsalves, our 2nd round pick we can trade, Escobar Tier 5 - Might be a secondary piece but won't be a centerpiece in any major trade - Burdi, Walker, Arcia Tier 6 - These guys don't really have trade value for other teams at this moment - Nolasco, Santana, Vargas, Pinto
  4. Cespedes is another power bat on the market. I don't think we have a snow balls chance in heck to get him but ...
  5. I thought this was a pretty good summation of the democratic debate. http://theconcourse.deadspin.com/no-seriously-dissolve-the-united-states-1736629448
  6. I'm not as high on Micheal as Thylos is but I do like him. I've always been impressed by his ability to get on base. I probably agree that he's most likely a role player but I think he's very close to meeting that, so I'd have him higher on the list. Also, Keaton Steele is a great name.
  7. It was the answer to the only relevant question.
  8. http://deadspin.com/lets-relive-the-time-sean-casey-got-thrown-out-at-first-1736560513 It's a funny play but Casey's explanation is even better.
  9. There sure seemed to be a lot more teams in the 75-85 win area than I thought there would be. I thought we'd have a few more extreme outliers.
  10. I think Ryan will get the opportunity to make this a pretty successful team. Again.
  11. In the comments section, the author suggests the Twins and Seattle could do a Arcia/Zunino swap. I'd be ok with that.
  12. How much weight should I give it? We have past history that shows our GM has been pretty good about this. The team's clearly on the right track and seems to be doing things correctly. I'm not sure what to do with a piece like that. We'll be fine.
  13. Yeah, I read it but it's dubious. We'll be fine.
  14. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/10/offseason-outlook-minnesota-twins-6.html The piece has a few thoughts on the Twins including this trade - "One speculative bad contract swap floated by MLBTR’s Tim Dierkes was to send Nolasco and a pitching prospect to the Rockies in exchange for Jose Reyes, as the difference in salaries would essentially mean the Twins were getting Reyes for two years and $23MM." The piece suggests the Twins might make a trade for a catcher and finishes with "The Twins have a fascinating offseason on the horizon, as their highly touted farm system has begun to bear fruit at the Major League level, bringing into question the futures of some veteran contributors. Despite several graduations to the Majors, the Twins boast seven prospects in MLB.com’s Top 100, giving them a still-deep reserve of minor league talent that could be used to upgrade deficiencies at shortstop and catcher. In addition to the candidates listed above, a player such as the MLB-ready Jorge Polanco (a shortstop who most believe will need to move to second base) could be a valuable trade chip. Lower-level names such as recent Top 5 picks Kohl Stewart and Nick Gordon are well regarded but won’t factor into the Major League picture until at least 2017, if not 2018-19. With an accelerated timetable for contention, there’s an argument to be made that the Twins should shift from collecting minor league talent to parting with potentially blocked or far-off prospects in order to make a more serious run in 2016."
  15. Well, nice to see a critique that says the Twins are good at drafting and developing talent. I thought that was the reason the Twins were bad. We'll be fine. Besides the AJ trade, Ryan collected Milton, Silva, Punto, Ortiz, Bartlett, Lohse, Guerrier, Stewart, Guzman, Ford, Liriano, Castillo and Casilla.
  16. What were you're other suggestions? Plowing over a fielder in the baseline?
  17. That's the point - as long as you leave it open for interpretation, you're going to have to accept calls you don't like. The umpires and many players thought the slide was legal. (You and many others do not). Umpires do call interference (although they do seem more inclined to call it when guys are out of the baseline). We can (and probably will) move the line but it won't change the discussion if we still allow contact. Someone will take it further than others think is right - look at home plate collisions. The Twins/Royals game late this year was decided in part on a non-interference call on Suzuki that upset Royals fans a great deal.
  18. They were pretty rare in the first place. They may have helped a little but probably not all that much - Suzuki got steam rolled a few times even with the new rule.
  19. Bummer, I liked Kiley. He was one of the better prospect guys around. He also really liked Berrios.
  20. If you're really worried about injuries, this isn't the place to start. But baseball could (and probably will) try to change the take out slide rule a bit and it won't make much difference, just like the catching change didn't.
  21. -sigh- Yes, there is a rule. Now we'll say, let's enforce it (even though the umps have enforced it at times and in this case, declined to do so). So we'll still have times where the umps allowed contact and a fan base will scream and bitch and moan that it was an illegal slide and interference should have been called and we'll compare that slide to the Utley one or the Holliday one. The complaining here is that the umps didn't make a discretion call the way most would like. That will never change so long as there is wiggle room on a call. We can move the line so that Utley's slide is clearly way over but something else will end up being close to the new line that will draw just as much outrage. Maybe the next argument is that the shortstop who injured Plouffe didn't do enough to protect the baserunner. Who knows. But as long as we allow contact, there are always going to be plays that some people object to. If we want to allow those, then we have to accept that occasionally the umpires will allow a play that some people don't like.
  22. That's a fair point about Berrios. No reason he would stay healthy more than Gray.
  23. I don't think anyone is suggesting he wasn't trying to hit the bleep out of the infielder. I think we all agree he was. The question becomes whether it was a legal play. The umpires on the spot thought it was legal (as did most players in a clearly unofficial poll). So now it developed into was it "dirty" (which is an 'eye of the beholder' thing) and what should be done to make sure it never ever happens again - which would require us to adopt a Japanese version and eliminate take out slides. (one could say, 'we changed the rules on catchers, so it would work here' but that's not quite right. We changed the rules on catchers but there still has been contact at home plate - which has led to injuries and questionable calls. If the intent is to eliminate contact it's the Japanese version. Otherwise, it's just a small rule rewrite and more arbitrariness).
  24. I think there's a lot of smoke and mirrors to Gray's numbers. His babip is pretty low probably b/c of his home park. As others have mentioned, he doesn't have great strike out numbers and the same concerns people have about Berrios' size would be there for Gray. At the end of the day, I don't think Gray is an ace. Beane would be wise to sell on him when he's high but I think the Twins would be better off holding onto their pitching depth and look somewhere else or add a different piece. Mike makes a good point and Gray probably will be better next year than Berrios (and Kepler is massively overrated on these boards). But I'm really worried about making big trades for pitchers since they get hurt so often - esp when we aren't really rebuilding so much as finalizing a potential playoff team. If I knew Gray would be good the next three years, I'd do it but I don't so I'd vote no. But I wouldn't criticize the Twins if they made this trade.
  25. That's what we have now and has led to this discussion. So we slightly re-write the rule and next year someone will be called out for interference on a similar play and we'll get another round of discussion on this. If we're going to allow contact sometimes there is going to be contact that some people think goes too far (and others not enough). So we could adopt the Japanese version and eliminate all contact or we could let the umpires make the call at the moment it happened, understanding that we won't always like their calls.
