  1. I still have a lot more faith in Buxton long term and I agree with Nick that he's looking better. He just needs reps. I'd rather they move Rosario down to AAA than Buxton - not that they would.
  2. Yeah, I suppose some people accidentally use a PED (JC Romero seemed to have a good argument, IIRC) but I think most use it knowingly.
  3. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/15305652/toronto-blue-jays-outfielder-chris-colabello-suspended-80-games-major-league-baseball The drug he used could probably use a space or two: dehydrochlormethyltestosterone.
  4. I gotta think Ryan is going to want to promote both Berrios and Meyer fairly soon. One more bad start might be it.
  5. Cool. Is Ryan at the game, too? He was there yesterday so I would imagine he'd stick around to watch Berrios' start.
  6. The outings by Meyer and Stewart are really encouraging. I'd be thrilled if the Twins just plugged Meyer into the ML rotation and let him start 20 games for us, just to see him at this level.
  7. Velocity won't be a problem. That's just a timing adjustment and all ballplayers make those as a matter of course. The hard part for him will be the adjustments to breaking stuff and he looked pretty good on this hometand against that.
  8. Yeah, he had a really nice homestand for us. Good to see.
  9. I would guess that Kepler goes down and Polanco backs up the IF at least until Nunez cools down.
  10. Man, I bet this thread easily overtakes the Joe Benson and Zack Jones threads ...
  11. From Neal: "The longtime coach and manager will be a roving minor league instructor, special assignment scout and carry out special assignments for Ryan. The role is similar to the one Tom Kelly performed after he stepped down as manager following the 2001 season."
  12. Yeah, the Twins have some nice exciting young pitchers down there. Kudos to the development group. I know Stewart and Jay were supposed to be studs but Jorge seems to be bouncing back from the disaster season he had a few years ago and Gonsalves was a 4th round pick (although maybe he fell b/c of some character issue? I don't think he was first round talent but maybe 2nd?). It's also nice to see Luke Bard pitching well after all those injuries. I hope he gets promoted to AA soon.
  13. Not much to report but Callis at mlbpipeline wrote about the class: "There's a lot of uncertainty swirling around the 2016 Draft with eight weeks to go before the Phillies make the No. 1 overall pick. Many of the top-rated college pitchers entering the season have regressed, and there are few up-the-middle position players worthy of going in the upper half of the first round. The consensus at this moment -- and a lot can change with two months to go -- is that the two best prospects are Barnegat (N.J.) High left-hander Jason Groome and Riley Pint, a righty from St. Thomas Aquinas High (Overland Park, Kan.). .... As of today, I'd rate Groome No. 1, Pint No. 2 and then the best college position players (Tennessee third baseman Nick Senzel, Louisville outfielder Corey Ray, Mercer outfielder Kyle Lewis) Nos. 3-5." With that kind of uncertainty, this might be a strange draft where someone who was expected to go high might drop into our lap at 15 (or fall far below). Alec Hansen, for example, has had a disaster of a season and was in pre-season consideration to be a top 3 pick. He lost the strike zone and was moved the the bullpen.
  14. On Gordon: Last year one of the BP guys put a 70 FV (future value) on him. That guy was a limb by himself but other BP guys defended the call, saying it wasn't crazy. The basis of the 70 grade (by one guy) was that Gordon had shown he'd be able to stick at short at the ML level and his bat was a plus bat for a shortstop. So you were looking at a strong defensive short stop who would hit among the top 5 at his position (less power, better on-base). Hence, the 70. Others (obviously) weren't as high on him but still, that's awesome.
  15. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20160415&content_id=172558268&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&sid=milb Really awesome news. 6.1ip, (92 pitches, 60 strikes), 3 hits, no walks, 8Ks. Call him up!
  16. Yeah, I'm having the same problems. It's horrible. I use task manager to kill shockwave every few minutes. Brutal.
  17. "three time top 2 prospect". Which, of course, is a nearly empty class (Buxton literally might be the only one). The obvious implication (as I saw it) was that you were trying to suggest that Buxton, like other highly regarded prospects, should have nearly immediate impact based on how he was ranked while ignoring how many games or at bats he's had. But perhaps you weren't trying to imply such comparisons.
  18. Sure, perhaps I misread your intent. I read it as you playing up his prospect status while ignoring the amount of playing time he has which separates him from pretty much every other person that would fit into his grouping that you created. Generally, I think a flop is a guy who can't make it in the majors. Delmon Young or Francour, for instance, were crappy players but not flops. Andy Marte was a flop. Brandon Wood, Jesus Montero = flops. But clearly that's not what is being thrown around. Based on his prospect ranking and what was written about him, I think if he doesn't become one of the top 10 players in baseball, people here will label him a flop. And, I think he will be one of the top 10 players in baseball.
  19. Honestly, that's one more than I would have thought.
  20. I like how the poster said "not comparing" and then you did exactly that to completely miss the point.
  21. I guess I'm not really sure what you're getting at. If he's a slightly better Ben Revere type player in two years, I suspect most of us will be unhappy but that's still a staring CFer so I suppose he'd still be in the field. I don't think the Twins would jetttison him at 24. If you're just trolling for "when should the Twins expect him to be McCutchen" I don't have any idea. I personally think he'll be there by the end of the season. His history of promotions shows that it takes him a couple months to adjust to new levels. Give him extra time since he basically skipped AAA but I think the Buxton we see in Sept will be a lot different from the one we are seeing now.
  22. Two very nice starts by Stewart. Really encouraging. Nice write up.
  23. Other than the OP who said he was a flop, who is setting the bar low? We think he'll be an all-star. Comparisons to McCutchen were made. Jeepers.
  24. He'll be a multiple all-star. He's very, very good. I think people have a little prospect fatigue with him and fail to understand how impressive his season was last year. He'll be fine. Keep in mind, he's actually had fewer milb PA than Trout did.
  25. I think it's more to stop the losing. If Murphy can hit .250/.305/.355 it's a MAJOR upgrade. Which is sad. But Ryan has to do something. I suspect Park will be sent down in a few weeks and the other of Buxton/Rosario as well if they don't get it going. (I think Sano will be fine). I do wonder how much rope Molitor has. He probably wouldn't be fired in season but (as others have noted) some of his moves are a bit questionable and I always felt like he was more a Pohlad pick than Ryan. I don't think it'll happen but it's not a zero chance that maybe Dougie Baseball is managing the team before the season is out.
