  1. I assume your ire and concern for humanity extends to football and hockey fights, too?
  2. Good episode. Enjoyed the Sansa/Jon Snow re-union.
  3. I remember when the Metrodome sounded similar when Gant was muscled off of first base (I mean, fell. Because he lost his balance). I have no problem with the crowd. They supported their team - we'd have done it too. I actually wish these two teams played each other more. Maybe in the playoffs again.
  4. http://screengrabber.deadspin.com/blue-jays-and-rangers-brawl-completely-ignore-game-1776771655 Started when relief pitcher Matt Bush "accidentally" hit Jose Bautista with a fastball in the ribs. Both sides were hot. Two batters later, Smoak grounds into a sure double play but Bautista goes in Utley-like (interference is called) and the second baseman - Roughed Odor - did not like it. A little shoving and then a real punch and Bautista was nearly TKO'd! For baseball, it was amazing. Sadly, it's the last time these two teams play each other this year, unless they meet in the playoffs. The next inning, the Blue Jays immediately hit Prince Fielder and the benches emptied again but nothing happened. Fielder went to first base. He probably knew he was going to get hit.
  5. Where is Farnsworth going? I agree that I thought Kiley was a pretty good prospect guy - IIRC, he was a huge Kepler guy. But that might have been the guy before him?
  6. Honestly, I'm not sure it's all that strange. I suspect the ML beat writers have other stuff to worry about. I don't think we usually get minor league updates - certainly not on health. And the Twins probably didn't think it was a big deal so didn't send out a press release on it. They just rested him. The minor league reporters - from BA to the Rochester paper didn't think it was a huge deal. I'm not saying it isn't a big deal but I don't think it's all that strange that it didn't get much/any press coverage.
  7. mlbpipeline has their first mock up - http://m.mlb.com/news/article/177741112/kyle-lewis-at-no-1-in-latest-mlb-mock-draft Has the Twins taking Dakota Hudson, which would be just fine. "A strong finish could push Hudson up a few notches and it looked like he righted the ship after a rough patch. A lack of college arms helps his cause." He's listed #10 on their list but had not quite a dominating season. I think he'd be a great get at 15. Callis also has an article up on the draft - http://m.mlb.com/news/article/177715498/pipeline-inbox-max-scherzers-dominant-start He notes that the draft is weaker than last years' draft. "However, the current crop doesn't have a high school position player as good as Brendan Rodgers was a year ago, or a college position player in the class of Dansby Swanson, Alex Bregman or Andrew Benintendi, or a college pitcher superior to Carson Fulmer, Dillon Tate or Tyler Jay. All seven of those guys went in the top 10 selections in 2015, and they would do so again this June."
  8. I hope the team doesn't rush Buxton back. He needed at bats so let's get him some more at bats so he's comfortable.
  9. Just looking at mlb.com's list does suggest that the Twins could pretty easily draft a catcher in the first 3 rounds. I believe they have five picks inside the top 95. But it also looks like there might be a number of potential high school arms that they could focus on instead. Or they could nab another Trey Cabbage like kid - I think Cole Stobbe would be a fun pick. I'm still interested in some of the guys whose stock is dropping. Coming into the season, Bobby Dalbec was a top 20 guy. College bat who had a bad season and might not be able to stay at third. But he has good power and a strong arm. Might be a fun lottery ticket. And, of course, Alec Hanson.
  10. My guess is that this will be stay an in the eye of the beholder thing, like interference running down the first base line or even balls and strikes. It'll go toward super strict (like we saw in April) and then a loosing of the rules again (now) and continue to teeter-tooter. My guess is that the players are probably ok with a not quite stringent view as we saw in April but want to avoid the Utley slides.
  11. Not unexpected - http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/mlb-already-backing-off-new-slide-rule/
  12. His Twitter account doesn't say anything either. This is very frustrating.
  13. Right now, they have 7 OFers that are 25 and younger on the 40 man roster. Something will have to give. I imagine that Arcia will be moved if he can build up enough trade value. Kepler could create interest as well. Sano and Buxton are obviously off limits. I don't think Santana and Walker have much value although Walker's power might interest some. Eddie Rosario could be traded but has to play a lot better first.
  14. I remember when Gardy wanted Meyer on the ML roster out of ST in 2014. That was about as close as he got to making noise about the talent he was given.
  15. There's only a few possibilities - 1) he's been moved to the BP 2) he's hurt 3) he's upset about something and there are communication problems between him and the team
  16. This seems like a nice place for it. ESPN had a pretty good article about scouting and heavily featured the Twins and mentioned a handful of names that might be taken on draft day. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/15292494/minnesota-twins-other-mlb-teams-circling-back-scouting
  17. Obviously, we're still in really small samples but is Kepler really unlucky or are pitchers hitting the bat out of his hand? His walk rate and strike out rates are outstanding but his babip is .200. So he's either hitting it right at people or he's making incredibly weak contact.
  18. Sure, but Correa was shooting up draft boards and a lock to go in the top 5 or 6 picks. The Twins worked him out and might have taken him if Buxton went 1-1. He was a stud. I think there's a difference between playing draftees off one another to get the best deal and going under slot with a lesser talent - think Royals with Hunter Dozier in 2013. If the Twins have the choice of Manning, Anderson and Garrett and they cut a deal with the cheapest one, that's ok. All three of those guys should go in the #15 range. But drafting Shore, who shouldn't, would be a mistake. IMHO.
  19. Does anyone remember Mitch Brown? The rumors were the Twins would take him with one of their supplemental picks in the 1st round. Instead, they passed on him 5 times and he was eventually picked by Cleveland. They'll take who they think is BPA.
  20. I remember reading scouting reports on him that said his curve had the chance to be plus (a 60 on the scouting grade). I think it might be better than that. He's really looked good. Still early, of course, but let's hope he's for real.
  21. Both Anderson and Manning would be fine with me. I'm not sure they'll be there at 14 but they are definitely the high upside picks you'd want, even if it is a gamble.
  22. The Tower of Joy thing pissed me off. I should have known they wouldn't reveal who was in the Tower in that episode but, no, I was all set to see Baby Jon. Oh well, good episode.
  23. Sure. I guess what I meant is that the team shouldn't send a guy down and say, "find me a catcher b/c we have none in our system right now" or whatever and just sign the best talent available.
  24. No, I was just referring to ShouldaWouldaCoulda's comment about the system not having a lot of bats. These international kids won't really affect the current system (A-AAA). That's all. By the time a 16 year old kid is ready for A+, for instance, our system might have switched over and be completely bat heavy. I guess it was a roundabout way of saying the Twins shouldn't sign a 16 year old kid based on need and just sign the most talent they can.
  25. Yeah, but keep in mind these guys won't make the majors for at least six years so the current system doesn't really matter.
