  1. I probably wouldn't touch Russian stocks unless you're trigger happy with when to sell them. Russia's underlying economic troubles are legit and frightening and just being buddy buddy with the US President isn't going to fix those problems. We might see some movement based on things like expectations and hope but probably not on the fundamentals. * Remember, I'm just some idiot on the internet and know nothing.
  2. I think, unless we see a real deal, we're going to collect cash for a bit and reexamine investment opportunities after next summer. I tend to think the market will be lower a year from now.
  3. I voted third party and my co-workers are pretty close to murdering me.
  4. Not winning the Senate hurts a lot.
  5. Good lord.
  6. Totally. I saw some dude voting in some military uniform and I'm like "Trump voter."
  7. Our cable bunches TV and internet together so we get 60m internet speed for $50/month but it would be $60 if we got rid of the TV. I'm not sure if that's a good deal but I live in a semi-rural area and it's the best deal I can find on internet. The only other provider would charge us $25 but the internet speed is only 20m.
  8. The idea of adding Reddick and making Rosario a 4th outfielder is somewhat appealing to me. Reddick isn't an ironman so Rosario will still get lots of at-bats but if his manager doesn't let him bat against lefties (he SLUGGED .289 against them last year) and uses him as a late inning defensive replacement he could be a real nice bang for your buck piece. I know the defensive stats are all over the place on him but I tend to think he's pretty solid across the board and certainly a better fit in center than Danny Santana.
  9. How much do you think you pay for internet, hulu, netflix, amazon prime and HBO Go monthly?
  10. I'm sure I'll watch some of the shows so I know who won but after that I'm going to be irritable and probably putter around the house.
  11. Only to be followed by a totally different long national nightmare ...
  12. Uff-da. Guess I didn't have to wait for the playoffs
  13. Reddick would be a nice get. Gives the team a bunch of options.
  14. In all honesty, how to you think Trump will burn this place to the ground? He's said some stupid things but he's running for President, not emperor. What exactly do you think will happen under a Trump Presidency? Personally, I think he won't do much and let Pence have considerable say. He'll probably nominate a right wing hack to the court but Congress will still be strongly divided so not much gets done. He'll probably try and make himself richer and might break a law or two to do it but other than that, I think a Trump Presidency would be a whole lot of nothing.
  15. Yeah, that could happen. Weak SP market is only going to help him. Santana at 2/23 looks great.
  16. On the pitching side, I like some of the stuff Ivan Nova brings - ground balls, particularly - and I had hoped that leaving Yankee stadium would let him be a bit better pitcher and that the Twins could nab him on a cheap make good deal. But then he left Yankee stadium and rebuilt his value for the Pirates. So he's probably going to get something in the 4/50 type deal. I won't bitch and moan if the new FO does that but I don't want that. The other guy on the list that sounds interesting in the Cuban FA Norge Ruiz. I wonder if the new FO will change anything about our approach to international spending.
  17. This terrifies me. I suspect part of that is me just growing older and not being able to recognize the society that will be there but part of it is just wondering if my kids will be able to function.
  18. This is giving the Democrats far too much credit. Dems have supported some pretty damn hostile plans on many social issues* - our flagbearer opposed same sex marriage until she was 66 years old. Our Democratic president has deported more people than every other President combined and set up internment camps for asylum seekers. His DHS is arguing that 3 year old children are capable of defending themselves in immigration court. Democratic politicians all over the south, west and midwest have opposed trans rights, same sex rights and failed to adequately even begin to address the very real problem of racial profiling. Democrats - not Republicans - were the ones who have attempted to keep refugees out of the country. And we're a long way from saying that Democratic voters support trans-rights, for example (although more dems support them than republicans, of course). The Dems say they support the environment but have allowed a lot of bad things to happen to the environment if its in their economic interest to do so. * And this assumes you think social issues should be what determines this election. Voters who care about economic inequality, poverty, govt surveillance, war, the first amendment, Wall St, internet access might have very different feelings about what issues are important or which party cares about those issues - or if either party cares about those issues. They might be tired of hearing social issues discussed while they can't figure out how to support their children.
  19. Baez had a nice season after a couple disappointing ones. He was a top sure fire can't miss prospect, then a bust and now might be making some strides. Good reminder to not give up on prospects who struggle - or think that only the Twins see elite prospects struggle.
  20. I kind of wished I caught the ending but when the tarp went out I went to bed. Pretty decent WS though.
  21. The large market was taken from the article - "The A’s are in danger of losing some or even all of their substantial annual check from baseball’s revenue-sharing system, which redistributes income from richer teams to poorer teams to maintain competitive balance. Oakland was grandfathered into the program because of its antiquated stadium, despite being in a larger market, and received upward of $34 million in revenue sharing last season."
  22. It would be kind of nice for an AL Central team to win the WS two years in a row ...
